Are there any indications that a spider is about to appear in the game?

In the Emprise du Lion mission you start talking to a demon just before you claim the keep.  He tries to bargain with you to just accept what he is doing; assuming you don't take his deal, he turns into a demon and summons spiders to attack you.

The spiders do get pretty big here in Australia, thankfully nothing like they do in the games.

I'd have to move to Antarctica if they did.

Not in the locations I have encountered them as of yet.

Really? Sorry, arachnophobics, there have been webs every place I have seen spiders but two. This means there are more spiders in the game than I thought. And that you can't rely on webs to tip you off.

One spider came out of its cave to attack me on open terrain, unprovoked, while I was fighting a canine. Or maybe the dog was her friend. In any case, I thought that was harsh.

I don't have any such phobias, but I wish game developers would start treating them as an accessibility issue. Snakes and arachnids come to mind as common problems people run into. Not too many rodent-themed monsters. No, you can't account for everything, but you can cover some of the major things. Turn them into blank boxes with no sound effects or something.
