The 4 empire class story lines has some parts about Revan that you can see in f2p... the new Revan expan is paid but thats level 55+ so you have a long wait to play that anyway.

I have 6 republic characters at level 50 (the end of the story) and two empire girls at level 20 ish

Story-wise; Empire Bounty hunter is the best one I have done so far... the jedi warrior was ok but I didn't think much of sage or tropper because they just come down to hit 1-good or 3-bad.

I also, only play single... sometimes I'll group quickly to help a guy kill a target but I don't join a guild or anything.

I played the first two characters as f2p and the only problem I had with f2p is the lost of a transport option but that can be fixed around level 12ish so its not that big of an issue.

No. The main story is surrounded by a bunch of fetch quests, filler content. You do a single story mission for every 10 or 20 side quests which really have no context other than "I need 10 of these and on it's the way". The story itself, regardless of class, aren't anything to write home about. And unless you plan on paying a subscription, you're going to be locked behind a pay wall. Hell, even if you do pay the subscription they still lock you behind pay walls. Swtor is a mess.

The legacy system;

Each of the 4 classes has their own buff… getting a character to level 45-50 (its actually the story as well as the level) unlocks that buff and two special items that can be useful to the next character.

Example; you make a republic trooper and get her to level 50 (ending her story) then make a new jedi warrior… he gets;
Two good items the trooper sends him in the mail that he can use at around level 10… say a nice gun and good boots (these can be upgraded as he levels to avoid becoming redundant).

All new characters get their own buff + the trooper buff because that 1st character finished her story… this happens automatically and carries across the border so even if you make an empire character next, they still get the equivalent buff.

Finally you get the race so if you play a pure siff guy for the empire to unlock that class then you could make an alliance trooper that somehow happens to be a siff.

Skills for solo play;
Diplomacy – lots of light/ dark side points, gifts for winning your companions over and medical supplies for making good first aid products.
Bioanalysis and Biochem skills work together… basically collect plants/ skin dead animals to get parts for making heals/ buffs that are epic level (don’t get removed when used)… the extra heal makes a HUGH impact on your ability to solo play!

p.s. don’t make a tank… dps or heal characters solo best.

Short answer, yes I recommend it. No long answer really, just group with someone(guild is a nice possibility) and you'd enjoy it a lot more.

The main storyline... well there is no main storyline. It's all filler really, fetch this fetch that, here's a touch of background. The class quests though and companion quests are preeetty good though. So basically it depends on what you're looking for. The F2P options seem to be severly, severly limited. The part that REALLY bugs me is the punish your xp gain for being f2p, so there's a chance you could end up needing to grind to continue on.

You can definitely play SWTOR solo if you're mostly interested in the main class stories; that's the way I play, with only occasional forays into group content/raids. An F2P account gets you access to the class stories but not the post-50 expansion content. Expect a lot more side questing than KoTOR, since this is an MMO after all. That said, I personally enjoyed a lot of the side quests; each planet has its own story arc aside from your character's class story missions, and some of those are quite good.

There is a small amount of plot revealed in flashpoints (small group content), but none of it is specific to your character's personal story arc and it's all on Youtube anyway.

Also be warned that the Revan who shows up in SWTOR is a specific canon version (male, romanced Bastila) who doesn't even look like any of the possible appearances in KoTOR, so you may be disappointed if you were really attached to your personal version of Revan.

I'd recommend starting a free account to see if you like the gameplay, then subscribing if you enjoy it. You'll also have to buy the expansions separately if you want to play those; I believe both together cost $20 USD.

I just went on youtube and watched rest of story line and expansion story line.

I liked story line but its to receptive for me.

Its kinda weird honestly i can play skyrim or dai and it not feel like that even if your doing similar things. This did nothing for me gameplay wise.,

I tried 3 times to play for story only... I failed 3 times...

You really cannot substitute a classic single player experience with multiplayer... It is a fun game... but in the end... naa... I rather play SP...

The thread is old, but still I feel like commenting.

No. The main story is surrounded by a bunch of fetch quests, filler content. The story itself, regardless of class, aren't anything to write home about. And unless you plan on paying a subscription, you're going to be locked behind a pay wall. Hell, even if you do pay the subscription they still lock you behind pay walls. Swtor is a mess.

That's pretty much how I felt, too. The stories themselves aren't bad (I've completed the entire Trooper story and about half Inquisitor story), but they are a very-very tiny part of the game. The overwhelming majority of the game is grind, endless grind: killing 20 copy-pasted Imperial troops here, opening 50 supply crates there...

What I would recommend is watching story compilations on Youtube. Those are 20-30 minutes videos containing only vital dialogues and cutscenes. That's how I watched through all 8 stories, and I had a lot of enjoyment this way, just watching it like movies, sipping Cola.

The game itself has very little common with KotoR, or Star Wars from movies. It is first and most an MMO, so if you like MMOs like World of Warcraft, you might be interested in the game. But if you are, like me, not an MMO player, then don't bother with SWTOR, it is unlikely to catch your attention for a long time.

I am playing SWToR since the beginning. And I really have to say that the storys of every single class are beautiful. All the video sequences and stuff are so good.

And right now, there is a 12x XP boost for classquests. So u can do JUST the story. And i think this is way more effective to hold players who really just want to see the story.

You could wait until the next expansion hits next month, as it might tighten up the levleing and make it more reasonable overall (even for non-subs) to just focus on class+planet story (and skip sidequests).

Yes you actually can,

I hope this makes sense to you, but if story is what you play for, today you can play just the story and be very successful doing so. A few months ago, you would have to grind, but I liked doing that and the fetch quests so, up to you. Now these quests only help level you, and you are not grinding. Just fall in love with crafting and tell your companions what they want to hear. Experience is easier to get today than ever. When my sub lapses, I may have a modified opinion of rate, but as for now, the rate as a sub is fast.

I played preferred for much of the time. I subbed for rewards that felt worthwhile, mainly the Narshada skypalace and when Knights of the Fallen Empire was announced I considered playing more.

Class stories completed rating 1-5

Trooper         3 though this is still my favorite char somehow.

Sith Warrior   5  I hated the guy at the end so much I actually lost sleep just to kill him

Jedi Knight    4 This is very likely what could have been a good single player game and have this resemble Kotor 3, but alas this is MMO

Classes well underway

Bounty Hunter 3

Jedi Sage        3

I am drafting this response, so please ignore incomplete thoughts or spelling errors,

I loved all of those stories, if I played with friends I actually knew in real life, I would play grouped, often the problem is people will rush you through content they have played before. Flashpoints are a good example, people rush you, people often tell you to skip because they have played this already often that day and it gets annoying. You are not playing a single player. The world is filled with other you-s if you are a trooper, for example, look there is another trooper who just killed my mob...... That trooper needs to go away, I am Havoc Squad (lore comment) and guess what that trooper is also in Havoc Squad. Subscriptions relate to credits, experience gains, some group missions, and a lot of chest pounding because they think the yare better. (I was happy either way, call me weird, I don't care.) Obviously though, they do have very real advantages. Though the fun level of the game is not taken from you, you can survive without year subs, some people can't.

Pros as a non sub,

To be honest the game is meant for subscribers, however as a pro I unlocked most of the features I wanted with cartel coins, played content for less, suffered the same internet problems for less than subscribers.

Pros as sub or short time sub

I think you could get away with one 60 day time card to really hammer out some characters or if you play less at one to one and a half. 60 days is a lot of time. If you buy the disk for 15 you get 30 days, another benefit for time cards is amazon prime users can sub for cheaper 27.99 and can use points form amazon prime to reduce the next one you buy. That is if you shop online with reckless abandon on amazon. You have full access to the game, buy as many cartel market items that unlock weekly passes.

So you are a solo player? Cons won't affect you much,

Biggest con for non sub is the credit cap, this is harmful to you if you buy items off the gtn and that creds in the escrow do not come back out. 350,000 is the preferred limit. Which is more than enough as far as I know, I have never spent more than 350,000 creds on a in game merchant. I did off the galactic trade market which other players sell items.

Knights of the Fallen Empire

You should sub at least once to get this, either when you play soon, or when all chapters have been released or most. Buy the disc you get your 30 day sub pass, one 60 day card is 60 days 30+60=90 right? If you subbed today you would be in good shape for KOTFE. You could also wait until you have a level 60 char and then pay for the sub. Time cards are good because they do not take money off your credit card to recurring sub fees, the yare one time buys. Better for finances if you forget. I would rather know the 15 bucks is still there that I did not intend to spend.

Ok so your asking why this looks disjointed, experience is one thing, sub rewards for your story quests are better as a sub, when playing shadow of Revan, sub, better rewards.

Today if you subbed you could get to level 60 on ordmantel which is a 1-12 planet because of the 4.0 update. You can actually finish those fetch quests, (WHICH I LIKED BY THE WAY!) Yeah so I am alone on the fetch quests, that is ok. As for your story, KOTFE is meant for solo players, I played solo, I have never done an op mission, I never needed to, except to finish what is the planet? Oh yeah, oricon! Oricon ends with a ops mission, so for the after 50 content you will have 1 ops you should do, they really didn't impress me when I saw I had to group to finish, so I skipped them. Lore critical? I don't think so. OPs are for subs only, you can pay 5 bucks to get some cartel coins to get a pass or if you work it right every once and a while ops passes are available from other players for creds. They are worth=600k escrow vouchers and ops passes will sell for 500k often. I eventually sold mine back for that price and bought with real money the pass, your time getting that amount of credits is worth something too.

I'm gonna sub in a month or two to get into KOTFE (and SOR). Deleted ALL my alts because I wanted to experience the new leveling :o. Seems silly but I'm having fun. Still completionist haha, but even that is easier and faster to go through due to gameplay changes. Hutta got cleared out (missions, rewards, lore, champions), I'll tell you that much!

I've recently got back into TOR and I'm loving the changes so far, especially the companion changes. I no longer have to worry about gearing my companions, yay!

Although my companions are pretty powerful now. It's like I'm  the companion.

Edit: So, BioWare decided to nerf the companions. Sigh.

I have problems about the game now. I cannot "undergear" my guy and feel challenged. I used to be able to, and I may go back to the game, but I feel the game has been made so easy that I do not really need to know what my skills are. Now note, some people gear their chars so they are always at top gear and that makes the game easy so they will not notice a real challenge in pve. I can do that still, but my companion can no longer travel with me because well that companion can fight just about any fight without my help. So I agree with Vespervin, I am the side kick for my companion and guess what I cannot gear them up or down! I could make this game harder for myself if I could get rid of permanently or have the option to limit my companion which the best way to do that is bring back the old system option where I can gear my companion. Hell even the weapons are a single stat weapon for the companion. Give them an empty modifiable blaster and for them they seem to wield godlike power in pve with a plaster that for you and I would not kill some of the champions.

Now after that you will level way too fast in pve just with the story alone. If you sub you will always be ahead of the story. If you play every quest, you will be above the level cap for that planet.
