I am extremely heart broken right now and it sounds silly. I was so excited to be fighting through the fade with my fav. character from DAO Alistair and Hawke the champion drop DA2. Out of nowhere it was like a slap to the face having to choose between the two of them to die.......I chose to let Hawke go but it was so hard. Did anyone else find this depressing? Maybe in future game.....Hawke may just find the way out of the Fade.....I don't who will take care of Anders now!

And why does Alistair speaks of the Hero of Fereldon like he doesn't know him at all like no closeness? Anyway I am just venting......

I had to pick between Hawke and Stroud, so it wasn't really a tough choice, left Stroud without much regret. Would have not enjoyed your choices though.

So glad I didn't have to choose between Alistair and Hawke. That would have sucked.

*pat pat* It was still hard to choose between Hawke and Stroud, but like I said in another thread, I was really glad that my Warden married Alistair and became queen because I probably would have died if I'd had to choose between Alistair and my Hawke. Varric was right there with me, too...I couldn't do that to him, to myself, and to Anders (who is still with my Hawke - heh).

Oh that's unfortunate.  A romanced Alistair gets a lovely scene about the hero of Ferelden.

For me at least, borderline ironic as it is, Merrill was the deciding factor. I had to choose between Alistair(who my Warden romanced) and Hawke and spent a good twenty minutes agonizing over it. Leaving them all staring awkwardly at me while the Nightmare was looming (That is one thing I like about telltale games' the Walking Dead and other titles, you have a time limit and can't spent all day agonizing about choices. If Telltale had made this, the Nightmare would have eaten us all.)

Anyway, I finally realized that Merrill(who I rivalmanced as Hawke.) Had lost her friend (my deceased Warden), her teacher/mother figure (asshat keeper lady), and her entire clan (how was I supposed to know telling them to back off would enrage the ENTIRE clan?), it just seemed so damn mean to force her to loose Hawke as well. So yeah...Alistair was eaten by the giant spider of creepy doom because killing off Hawke felt like kicking Merrill.

tldr...Merrill killed Alistair with PUPPY DOG EYES!

Had Stroud and Hawke, so this choice wasn't quite so difficult. Liked Stroud by the end, though. He was a good man.

Kinda wish they threw more things into the mix to make this choice always difficult, though. Maybe they could have made it so in a world state without a Warden Loghain/Alistair you have Nathaniel, or somebody else from Awakening.

Got to agree with you on that, I saw a friend play through the fade and the interactions with Stroud. While I wound up respecting the man, there were definitely other Wardens they could have used to make the choice more difficult.

As heart-wrenching as that decision was, I loved it. It was actually really hard for me to choose. There was no clearly "good" choice. As far as Bioware's tough choices go, I'd rate this higher than Virmire (or choosing between ascension and Viconia in BG2). I only ended up choosing Hawke because he had Isabella waiting for him, and Alistair has a shorter potential lifespan.

But the Warden is off looking for a cure for the calling apparently.

They asked about Nathaniel two times in the Keep, so I was almost certain this was what was going to happen when I heard multiple people can be Hawke's Warden contact. Bit disappointing, Nathaniel would have been cool to have in that role. Hawke did potentially meet him too.

That choice only would have been a world of pain for me if I had to pick between my Warden and Hawke. That would have really got to me. But still Loghain was awesome and it sucked letting him go.

This is what I had happen and it was so incredibly upsetting. It's also a bit annoying because I always preferred warden Alistair over king Alistair and now I'm always going to have to keep him as king since I refuse to give up Hawke either.

Having to choose between Hawke and Loghain sucked because I love Loghain. But I felt that the world probably needed the Champion of Kirkwall icon more than it needed Loghain. After being so excited to see him in DAI, to have this happen was heartbreaking.

I had like three more people on my team at that point who were all qualified to distract a Nightmare demon. It sucks that I couldn't have picked from them instead, lol.

That would have been good. Or if if a Warden Hawke sibling had been there.

It's actually kind of interesting thinking about a situation where Loghain survives DA:I.

He was spared so he could atone. That's twice now he's had the opportunity to do it through sacrifice, and both times fate decided to keep him alive anyway. Dude must be wondering when the hell he's actually going to call it in, now. :S

And if the Wardens find a cure for the Calling, he'd have somehow managed to avoid that death, too, potentially indefinitely.

I cried... then got really pissed off because the only way to keep both alive is to make Alistair King, which pretty much sh*ts all over my beloved long standing DA:O canon where my Amell Warden and Alistair (who she romanced) stayed together within the Grey Wardens.

Don't get me wrong, it certainly packed an emotional punch BUT I really don't like when the devs/writers mess with people's canons like that. Felt like the whole King Alistair thing was being forced on me if I wanna stand any chance of having both him and my Hawke survive. Sooooo, now Alistair is King and I had to change my Amell into a Cousland and marry him... sure, I could've hardened him (hur hur) and become his mistress, but my Warden is an extension of myself and since I'd never agree to be anyone's mistress I have to keep her in character.

This was so hard to do.  i replayed it as I could not stand Verric's puppy dog eyes when I left myself ... humph... I mean Hawke... in the fade.

Fiona had something to say after, though.  Then she disappeared.  I couldn't find her any where in Skyhold.  i wonder if???

Can you die in the fade if you are really in there???

Wow, there are actually world states, in which you have to decide between Alistair/Hawke instead of Stroud/Hawke? I'm so glad that didn't happen to me. That would have been the point, at which I would have turned off the PC, screaming FU at the screen. :P

I let Hawke stay at first, but then I got the Varric scene later on. Reloaded immediately, did the whole boss battle again and let Stroud stay. Just couldn't handle Varric's reaction with that sad background melody, hugging him and all.

Really had a much easier choice myself. Between Hawke and Stroud I'll always go with Hawke even with the crime of losing such a magnificent mustache. Picking between Hawke and Alistair would've been so much harder

Hawke and Stroud is a no brainer, I'd leave Stroud in there in a heartbeat. I'm not even sure why Hawke offered to stay in there, he says "Corypheus is mine"... er, dude... you're aware that's a giant spider, not Corypheus, right?

But seriously though, choosing between my DA2 protagonist that took me ages to perfect and helped me learn to really enjoy the game, or Alistair my Warden's one true love. Worst. Choice. Ever. I left Hawke behind, couldn't do it to Alistair, I'm far too attached to him lol.

I haven't played DA2 since it came out, so I kind of lost the emotional connection to Hawke. First playthrough, I got Hawke/Stroud, so it was easy; now I'm replaying the game with Loghain as the Warden, but I don't think it will be hard to sacrifice a Hawke I barely remember playing.

I'm thinking of replaying all 3 games back to back, which should make that choice more meaningful. I'm tempted to arrange for Alistair to be the Warden this time, just to make it as difficult as possible...

In just about all of my DA:O playthroughs Alistair is King.  I sympathize completely.  I don't know if it came down to it who I would choose between Hawke and Alistair.  An impossible decision.  I was one of those that actually loved DA2, largely because of Hawke.  I don't know if I could sacrifice her instead of Alistair.  But then Alistair has always been one of my favorite characters in the DA universe.  Uggggh I can't imagine it.
