Im really jelaous, that you get so emotional choice. For me it was nothing like that. Alistair is always dead in my world state ( refuse DR, he wanted to kill Archdemon himself), and I never liked Hawke, also don't know Stroud. So it's really nothing hard to leave Hawke or Stroud in a Fade for me....(it cheapen my experience in this part of game).

Thanks for all the response. I am finally feeling somewhat better today. I am so ridiculously melo-dramatic but you know I played Dragon Age since the beginning and all games so I feel very personal with it. Alistair was my most beloved character and I really really like Hawke as well. I was the one that loved Dragon Age 2 as well. The only reason, after like 30 minutes of shock, that I could finally choose to let Hawke goes was because I felt like Hawke was still me....haha so I felt like I am sacrificing to let Alistair lives. 

Varric's reaction a lone was enough to break my heart even more. Those puppies eyes....and complete lost look. Sigh . I am going to replay it after this game and make Alistair king.....Even though that would mess up my story line.....I don't want him being some stinking king.

I don't know if that was a good thing though. I mean emotion leaves an impression but it was so damn depressing.

I left Hawke it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be since I was unable to recreate the guy I played as so I didn't have the emotional attachment that I may have had if he was. If it came down to Hawke and Alistair I would have picked the former in a heart beat. Still seeing poor Varric heartbroken was tough however.

This quest is killing me.

 

I already spoiled myself. And I sadly can't put the quest off any longer.

 

But I'm going to have to choose between Hawke and Loghain. And I've loved Loghain for 5 years now... spared him the Landsmeet and the Archdemon... only to be forced to kill him now. Because I just can't do that to this Hawke... it would destroy Varric and leave Anders a widower. 

 

And it's killing me I have to do this to Loghain. Like, actually feeling nauseous as I drag my way through the quest.

Looking forward to my next playthrough, where I can import Douchebag Hawke that nobody likes and leave HIM in the Fade instead.

It was a tough decision for me as well, but know that Loghain doesn't hate you for it

 

He deserved an heroic death and thats exactly what he gets if you choose him.

I'm curious- for those of you that had a Loghain vs. Hawke decision, if Alistair is still alive and presumably a wandering drunk, does he make an appearance anywhere? Like in DA2 you find him in the tavern and he's all "Swooping is bad" ?

THIS!!! I absolutely hate that we couldn't really recreate "our" Hawke... It was so frustrating to know you actually got to play a mission with Hawke and then not even be able to recreate THE Hawke. Kind of ruined that mission for me. And all it would have taken was some nicer hairstyles. *sigh*

Not sure and would be curious about this myself.

 

While I have Loghain in mine, I made Alistair king, so he got his cameo at Redcliffe.

 

I have a wandering drunk Alistair world state, but it wasn't the one I imported for this first run.

when i came to the choice between a (romanced, warden alive) alistair and hawke i just unplugged the pc and restarted the game with a king alistair savestate, so now he and surana are happily scandalizing the court instead of happily wardening. i'm still going to make a savewith an ******* hawke who killed anders, though, so i can have the "... and she would probably rip hawke's throat off because of what he did to anders" line of headcanon thrown in when the inquisitor asks why the hero of ferelden isn't there helping.

I actually went back and changed up the order of my 3 main 'canon' DAO - DA2 - DAI play throughs just to get this choice in game.  Yes I am a sucker for tragic choices.

Haven't played any previous DA games, but I knew Hawk was the guy on the box for DAII so I saved him. As for the other guy Stroud, I didn't know who the hell that was.

So I made him sacrifice himself. I didn't really care for him, his armor was nice though.

Oh, wow, that's really cool that everyone's choices are so different! I had to choose between Hawke and  Alistair. I chose Allistair, then reloaded a save and chose Hawke. Not sure what I want to keep. I think I'll let Alistair die so I can explain to Morrigan that the father of the OGB is dead. Also my warden was in a romance with Alistair. Not anymore!!!

 

Does anyone know the consequences of banishing the Grey Wardens or making them fight for the Inquisition?

Stroud is a Warden who made a very brief cameo in DA2 and who ends up being the choice vs Hawke if Alistair did not remain with the Wardens or if Loghain was not made a Warden or was made a Warden but died in the Redemption ending sacrifice against the Archdemon.

Oh that's unfortunate. A romanced Alistair gets a lovely scene about the hero of Ferelden.

What? When? Did I miss this? My warden romanced him but he's never mentioned her at all, and I only saw him the one time when deciding whether to free or conscript the mages. Errrrm.

Yep. I was kinda 'meh' about my Hawke, but i love, and I mean LOVE, Fenris, and I just couldn't do that to him. So Hawke lived to keep Fenris happy

I am one of the people who didn't really care for Hawke so I had to let him go. There is no way I would choose him over Alistair. I would even choose Logaihn over Hawke any day.
