So.  I was doing the Measure the Veil quest in my new playthrough.  Solas says something to the Dalish NPC you run into, when she tells you who she is any why she was in that place when you found her.

"Ma Harel, Dalen."

I think he's calling her a liar.  Anyone else have a better translation.

Man.  A Dalish Inquisitor should have had translated subtitles.

Literally it might something like, "You trick/demon/deceive, child."/"You are a trickster/demon/deceiver, child." So, yes, pretty much.

Or, alternatively

Spoiler

Basically, yeah, i assumed at the time that he was calling her a liar, or, more likely, that she was being shady. Though the alternative is kind of growing on me right now. I'd be interested in what other people thought.

I think it adds up to the same thing.  Either way he's calling her on her BS.  :)

The wiki doesn't have the words to translate what he says to her if you pick his response at the end of the quest: Ma Halani, Ma Glandival.  Vir Enasalin.

Ma Halani - the ghost child in that one elven ruin who's utterly terrified of you shouts this while running away. Considering context in both cases (the woman gets really nervous) the child might have been saying something like: "You [bad thing]" "You monster/curse?" "You're a monster?" Or, in this case, with Solas, it'd be personal. "I/My/Me [monster/bad thing]." But that's heavy inference.

(Edit: Just thought, it might mean "intruder/trespasser" or something along those lines, too. So Solas could be calling her an interloper.)

Ma Glandival: Shartan's sword is called Glandivalis as I think someone else in these forums mentioned. (there's some more discussion here). It might be something tied to items of value? Elves love their vagueness, so having a word that means "thing" that changes on context wouldn't surrpise me. Since Solas is supposed to be asking about an item in the quest, it makes the most sense to me. So glandivalis might be "valued item" and Shartan might have been the kind of dork to call his sword "This really awesome sword". Or "Great Item (sword in context so: Great Sword"?)

But here it might mean "My/your item/thing."

'Vir enasalin" is one of Merrill's battle cries, I think. "Vir" means "the path/way" (I've also seen it translated as "we"). Enasalin is like...blessing, maybe? "Way to gratefulness/blessing", so, "We would be grateful"? (Which means Merrill's shouting at her enemies to please die, because she'd be grateful, I love that woman)

Literally: You interloper (bad thing) / My item (implying the condition that he has possession of it) / Way to blessing/gratefulness.

think the last half could at least be translated as something like "If you'd give us that item, we'd be grateful." I'm just betting the first part is something sinister (he's either insulting her or subtly threatening her, I don't know) because she's kind of freaked out after Solas talks to her. "[something something] If you'd just give me my item, we/I'd be grateful."

So maybe it's something like...

"You interloper. Just give me my item (that already belongs to me). I'd be grateful." ?
