As the title says , i cant for the life of me get Blackwall's quest , i have collected all the memory of the grey stuff and he pretty much has approved/greatly approved of everything i've done thus far so what do you need to do in order to get his companion quest going?

Same here. I think he's the only companion I haven't triggered his personal quest when amusingly I use him all the time and he's always approved of my actions.

Could it possibly be a bug we are experiencing?

Perhaps? I just remembered though that I haven't finished his grey warden quest, so I've yet to see what happens after.

Keep talking to him in the shed next to the horses. Sooner or later he will not be there. I only got his right before my fight against Cory and that's because i just felt like goofing around and talking to people. I talked to him three times in a row. The thing is with this game, there seems to be more times you have to talk to people than even in DAO or DA2. There are probably more conversations than you thought or maybe there's something that triggers it in the timeline that you haven't done? I just remember I had to talk to him more than I thought and it was by fluke that I got it because I figured I was all done and for some reason I wasn't going to get his but then I had talked to him maybe two or three times in a row on one visit and the next time I stopped by on a fluke he was gone and I had to use the search option to trigger the quest.

Keep going to the barn and talking to him. If you get no new conversations then it might be approval or time/quest related.

I think you have to do the grey wardens and you have to find some of the warden locations he gives you. When you go to the fort, try to save the wardens rather than fight them. That's big with him.

Choose the wardens every chance you can and don't exile the wardens.

I think his quest triggers at the beginning of the third act.  Have you completed both "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts" and "Here Lies the Abyss?"

This is the actual trigger for it as far as i know, i talked to him multiple times before i did Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts and it was the same junk, then did the quest talked to him after, had a drink together then bam, hes gone.  And quest started.  Its like varric's quest, you cant do that till one of these two quests is done....  i think it might just be HLTA quest for him though

Cullen(human and elves), Solas(elves), Blackwall, and the Iron Bull are the options for straight girls. What they have to look forward to, well...Cullen is sweet, Solas is plot heavy, Blackwall is...Blackwall, and the Iron Bull is funny. Basically.

Yes, I got his personal quest after doing those two operations and I hadn't collected all his Grey Warden mementos at that stage.

I have noticed that the quests you receive from companions where they ask you to either kill a certain amount of people or collect stuff, are just there for approval boosting.

You don't need to complete them in order to advance their personal quests.

Yes it comes right after the Winter palace. Memories of the grey is not linked to it at all,

I am having this  problem as well   Cannot get Blackwall to trigger his quest.  There is nothing else for me in the game except going to the Arbor Wilds.  I keep talking to him in the barn but keep getting the same single dialogue option.......'...thoughts on the inquisition'.   I exiled the Wardens so can only assume that blocks the quest from triggering.

I found working some more on Memories of the Grey, with Blackwall in the party, made the difference for me as far as I could tell.  I had completed Here Lies the Abyss and Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts but had not yet received his quest either.  Last night I located a few more of the mementos--not even yet completing that quest--and Revelations triggered for me as soon as I next spoke to him next in Skyhold.  He gains great approval for each memento you locate, and I think this helped a lot :)

Hmm that could be it.........I did Memories of the Grey but never with Blackwall in party.  With my INQ being S/B Champion I had no need for him.  I did go back to him after each part of Memories of the Grey......and he would say something about how he heard I found some stuff and he wished he was there.   Cullen is also bugged for me....after doing Sera mission he disappeared from Skyhold only to be seen in story cutscenes.

Oh well ...pretty sure it not there for me since I literally have nothing (my journal is empty) except for going to Wild after Cory.

I'm sorry to hear it :(  It can take some finangling to get some of the personal quests to trigger, and I've noticed random bugs like these as well.  Are there any quests you can take him on to get additional approval?

I think it only happens after you do the Grey Warden storyline.

I don't exactly know how, but it just sorta happened. One day he's there, next he's getting executed in Val Royeaux

You have to do both Here Lies the Abyss and Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts to get the quest where you go to Val Royeaux.

But if you're referring to Explanations, that only triggered when I instigated a romance. In my other game, where I was Solas-centric, I never got that one. It may be a pure romance quest.

I'm not sure if the OP is talking about his final quest or the quest after his recruitment when you go into the Stormcoast to find the Constable badge.

My first playthrough (I was romancing him) triggered it but my second failed to trigger that quest.

You have to of finished "Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts" and "Here Lies the Abyss"

After those are finished you will have a cut scene where he asks you to have a drink with him. Now all depending on if you're in a romance or not will determine on how it ends. Either with him

Spoiler
if you romanced him you will be in the barn and you will have to go down to the floor and find him gone; if not you will have to go back to the barn and the option to "search" will come up. Search and find a note that starts his quest (be aware after finding the note one of Leliana's spies will come in, talk to him.)

I just did a playthrough and none of his personal quests came up at all. I wonder if its bugged like Dorians.
