Am I the only one who thinks it's horrible? The never-ending march of completely identical mages and templars looks really bad. I have no idea why they chose that as the background... or didn't at least add SOME variety. A looping march of the clones isn't very 2014, and they somehow contrived to even make the graphics look really bad.

It's obviously not a huge issue, just a minor "why? WHY?" annoyance. They could've done almost anything else, there's tons of great looking places in DA:I, just... anything else.

Ive heard some pretty petty complaints about this game, but I think this one tops them all.

I guess you have problems with reading comprehension.

They set up the story or the tone for the game in that scene when you press start, so for that it's alright I think, but I see your point, though it's very minor. I think they should have a different background depending on how long you've come in the game, or in what region you currently are in the game. Like how The Witcher 2 does it.

All motions eventually HAVE to loop if it means to continue in the scene... because its impractical (and expensive) to record 30 minutes worth of motion capture of varied marching gestures....

So yeah... You're the only one...

Nope, they very easily could've had a variety of animations for both Templars and Mages, each one determined and timed randomly.

It would've been better than being able to memorize the same three spots where the mages staves will always light up.

It's an awesome idea, but a tiny bit more effort could've made it a whole lot better.

True...

But even if they did make it varied, I'm 100% sure someone will still complain and say:

"Oh, why is the mage stave only lighting up in green? Am i the only who's bothered about this? why can't it be red? or blue? or random? Why are the mages all wearing black?"

(-.-)

I'd much rather they put that effort into the actual game, no matter how little effort it took.

And most games just have static images or waving patterns behind the logo and thats it. Wasn't Origins just a picture of swords stuck in the ground? Inquisition's menu is pretty good when you compare it.

I'd rather have had a static image than Inquisition's menu.

Actually, when I first put the disc in and saw that, my first thought was "I love this game already". Am I alone there?

Really? Why? What do you think is good about it? It's way below the rest of the game when it comes to everything, animations, variety, etc.

In the same fashion as Origins (2 failed with this), the main menu instantly sets the tone.

171.jpg

Origins:

Dark, war-torn and broken. The Origins loading screen gives you an insight into what comes later - a torn Fereldan, damaged almost beyond repair. This is part of your story, and when the story is yet to begin, it's this small glimpse that sets the wheels in motion. It's at this point you brace yourself for whats to come.

dragon-age-inquisition-main-menu.jpg

Inquisition:

It's no secret, by time you've bought and loaded the game, that you're going to be the 'inquisitor' and will be recruiting with a cause. So when the first thing you see is an infinite army, there's an apparent vibe that this is your army. You are their leader, and you will be leading them into something spectacular. The scene is bleak, and that's suggestive of a time of despair, but in contrast to Dragon Age Origins, where it would appear that all is lost in fereldan, this menu screen sets a different tone. Here, all is not lost. Here, the fate of nations is in your hands, and that's an instant reason to sit still, take a deep breath, let it all sink in and prepare for what comes next.

Well, quite, I'm not questioning the concept or the idea behind it, just the execution. I think that screenshot looks better than the actual thing, too.

It's a menu screen. It doesn't need to be the flashiest thing since raves. It serves a purpose and it does it very well. I'm personally glad that no more efforts were put into it, and that those efforts were used in-game instead.

I like it. But at this point I would like to disable it. It's especially irritating when I'm going to shut down and the menu takes too long to load and then freezes off and on.

The main menu is easily one of my favorite things about Inquisition; it perfectly sets the tone of the game--especially when you hit 'New Game.'

I like it - the monotony and repetition of the marches is symbolic of the cyclical conflict between mages and templars.

The main menu is designed to look epic when you press "New Game". Once you have started it's just a menu screen that you look at for 3 seconds before you press "Continue". It serves it purpose.

I really don't think that it is that bad.

I love it. I think if you've read the books it's a bit more meaningful.

BUT, since the intention of that screen is for you to be on it less than 30 seconds, I think they put more effort into it than I would have expected - which says something. We really expect more than that for a menu screen?

I understand your point, but it fits the game so well. The templars and mages marching towards the Conclave before the big BOOM.

It's a menu screen that gets a bit more badass whenever you press the start button. Apart from that it's not there to entertain you.
