But say someone max's out their Gold on DAMP? How do you view this? Do they deserve to be banned?

That's online, and since Bioware is selling platinum to bypass the grinding I am sure they are storing gold balance on their servers, making it impossible for you to cheat this way.

For the same reason Diablo is always-on - people would stop playing the game in a week if they could just type "give all". Developers obviously take action when it makes business sense for them to do so.

I think I can try to explain this one to you in a roleplaying POV. The Templar's of the circle does not want their captive mages to become overly powerful so they restrict the mages on what type and kind of spell that they can learn to use. Remember when the First enchanter and the Knight Commander got extremely upset at you for snooping around the basement as you were aiding Jowan in the escape with his lover? This was after Jowan used blood magic on the Templars. I remember one of them (I think Irving) mentioning that some spells are not meant to be learned, and that the forbidden spells books are kept in the basement for safe keeping. The Chantry makes sure that the mages of the circle do not overpower their Templar jailors.

A weak mage is far easy to maintain and control rather than a few powerful mages.

Ok... seems kinda far reaching as other mages early game have more spells, but i kinda see the point

Elf Mage's who are the "First" of the Keeper, I would expect them to have more spells as well. Also Dalish hunters (Archers) should have more abilities.

Dwarves are in a Carta, they should be awesome DW rogues

Qunari are huge mercs and should be able to use Earthshattering Strike at the beginning....

Basically it's just not consistent... for RPing.

In that case, shouldn't other party members be better? OK, so you're a green mage straight from the circle... yet you somehow have access to more spells than Vivienne or Solas?

I never played any other class but mage so I can't honestly explain their lack of abilities to you in a RP POV.  Game machines tend to  play a huge role of the lack of ability thus giving you the chance to play your character the way you want, and not the developers.

Agreed here. Cassandra is a way too awesome to be level 1. Cassandra was *never* level 1.

Just to let you know, I'm not trying to be hateful (I don't think you are either) just like having conversations like this and finding out POV of different ppl.

Based off of the above point you make, I would feel like I would have more money and resources as I have a lot of allies (which btw do not grant me anything excet Influence). Though the best point to make off of your line of thinking is: Why as a mage of the Circle, at least in my mid-20's, do I only know 2 spells when the game starts? I should have a minimum of 8 spells (to fill up the 8 ability slots), as I've been in the Circle all my life! I can understand the Specializations, but nothing else, with your line of thinking, that is.

Cheat engine can give you more skills at the start? Might need to download it...

I'd gladly trade any sort of cheats for a NG+. Being able to retain skills, certain items, and all materials would make subsequent playthroughs a joy.

Cheat engine allows you to modify memory of running processes, with some things being easier than others - for example, you could find where the game stores health, and freeze that value to make yourself invulnerable, find where it stores XP and increase it to make you level up, and so on.

The only defence is to run the game on a platform that doesn't allow you to execute cheat engine i.e. consoles, basically.

On an unrelated note, I'm surprised no one here has expressed their outrage at the fact that you could spawn 100s of skill tomes using the console in Origins.

ha ha ha ha no that wasn't what I meant. I was talking about various. As what is quoted below

it would make sense you can though

The use of things like Cheat Engine seems like a natural consequence of Bioware's decision to remove mod support and not take proactive steps to address player complaints. If they dislike people using it, perhaps they should reflect on the role they have played in precipitating such activity.

How you play offline is your business. You paid $60 bucks for a buggy game with lousy KB+M controls. The way I see it, Cheat Engine gives you a way to balance the game for you.

I'm sorry if I offended you as a follower of Lady Insanity. I must of really ruffled up your feathers when I mention that I was unsubscribing from her channel. Just look at the emotions that came off of your post. You truly need to get off the computer, and go lay down somewhere.

Since you made a great effort of calling me an Idiot for no reason at all I'm going to say that it is you that is the troll, not me. I can subscribe and unsubscribe to anyone as I see fit. Don't like it? Go cry a river and see if anyone cares enough to see it.

That's true but it's still in poor choice to teach people how to cheat.

No-one in the history of gaming has been banned for cheating in a single player game.

I would argue that it's not even possible to cheat in a single-player game. There are ways to play it differently, but there's no basis for calling one way legitimate and the other cheating.

All possible ways of playing a single-player game are perfectly cromulent.

Seriously in single player you can do what ever you want. Cheating in multyplayer is other thing.

Pointless topic :D

The point is whether you get banned for doing "whatever you want" or not... If they have anyway of knowing if we use cheat engine or any other way to cheat the single player game and use that to ban the account then we have a problem. Multiplayer is not in topic here.

can u mod the single player without affecting the multiplayer? i haven't even looked yet, but isn't it all under the same .ini file?

It's .bin this time around, but yes. It's the same file.

What I'm asking is if we would get banned from origin/etc, if all we did was use a modded coalesced file for singleplayer - and when playing multiplayer, switched to the default unmodded coalesced file instead.

Hi HJF4,

We are only taking action against players who modify their multiplayer game to gain unfair progression, unfair advantage, or affect the experience of other players.

Examples are (but not limited to):
- Increase leaderboard rating.
- Increase amount of credits received on a match.
- Increase/modify weapon/power stats.

To clarify,

Scylla was correct and I was correct. Scylla's answer was more broadly based in that if you modify your SP and it has no game changing effects to your/others multiplayer experience (say for example, granting you x amount of credits or making a weapon x times more powerful) then there is no problem with this. My answer was poorly worded and I apologize for that - I was aiming to answer a couple questions I had received via PM (the same two questions from many different users) as well as support what Scylla said.

As mentioned by Scylla, you will not be banned for modifying your files *unless (and this is where my intention was) they give you an unfair advantage in any multiplayer aspect of the game.
