Just like those who pirate the game cheating is equally bad.

Right, and if you skip to the last chapter and read the epilogue first that's as bad as physically stealing a book - the merchant will starve to death if you sneak a peak.

No one is forcing you to cheat, but please stop making these mindbogglingly stupid comparisons.

according to her own description she warns about a potential adware that this software may carry if you accidentally accept the offers that the software gives to you during the installation process. Not a good thing to encourage to your 47,412 subscribers to download if I maybe so bold.

Yeah, not like that other shady company that installs intrusive browser bars... what was that called again? Oh right, Oracle - I sure hope you've stopped using Java, because else you might be seen as a bit hypocritical.

It most certainly isn’t impossible to detect :D

What are you gonna do, check if I have a process called "cheat engine" running? What if I use a different memory editor? What if I hide cheat engine from Origin or whatever you use to check what I'm running (the difficulty in catching this sort of thing is demonstrated by the increasing prevalence of rootkits). Hell, let's go back to basics and just edit save files with a hex editor - now I have 25000 gold, please provide conclusive evidence that this balance is the result of me cheating by editing the save file.

Looks like I need to unsubscribe to Lady Insanity's Youtube channel since she advocates cheating.

Yes. In a single player game. Where it won't affect anyone but the person playing.

Don't get bitchy because someone doesn't want to spend 3 hours looking for everite.

The lack of knowhow in this thread is incredible.

Cheat engine on single player is fine.

Cheat engine on multiplayer is not fine.

Cheat, cheat often, and cheat hard--you're only cheating yourself. When you cheat other people, then there's a problem.

So is the amount of righteous indignation and moral superiority from the anti-cheat contingent.

That's true but it's still in poor choice to teach people how to cheat.

Anyone who gets butthurt about ppl cheating in single player needs to get their priorities straight.

BioWare could care less how you play the Single Player game. Using CE to boost yourself in MP, isn't looked kindly on however.

I guess with MP it's the old rule, it's legal if you don't get caught. Taking it out to the public is a damned good way of getting caught though.

".. Cheating destroys the value of the game ..... "

That, of course, is your opinion.

If the mechanics they designed end up pushing people towards cheats they already failed, period.

See ME2's planet scanning , which is probably Bioware's worst offender.

LOL.

Now that design was bizarre.

If they are using it in multiplayer then yes that is bad.

There is not anything even remotely wrong with using it in single player.

You can dislike it on principle, which I do. I believe you should play the game correctly and the way it is intended.

That being said you shouldn't ban someone for using mods/cheats/exploits in a single player campaign.

Actually i play the game to have fun. playing the game "correctly and the way it is intended" is some else's idea of fun.

Awkward, finger cramp generating correct  gameplay is Bio's idea, not mine.  And, key re-assingment to suit you is incorrect game play, is wrong because ?

Yeah Bioware's policy has always been SP modding/cheating is fine, but don't touch the MP. And when you play MP, make sure you restore old files if you modified any of them (not applicable at this time, though).

This thread had me facepalming a few times. Complaining about people cheating (with or without mods) in their own single player game? Wow.

If I wanted to play the SP while using god mode, that's entirely my decision. If anything, Bioware should have made cheating possible while not having to use 3rd party software. Ctrl+J, Ctrl+Y anyone?

Cheating in Single player is personal preference. I don't see how this is even a discussion or an argument.

Remember cheat codes were built into the games code back in the day? I don't remember anyone complaining about that.

Cheating (in a sp game, so it's not cheating - just using cheats) is as bad as piracy???

Someone is gonna have to elaborate on that one, you don't get to post something like that then walk away.

Cheating is when you dishonestly gain an advantage over someone else. Who is this someone else in a SP game?

As bad as piracy? In a SP game?

I have looked at the cheat engine forums.. about the only thing that interests me on the entire program is the skyhold outfit toggle which allows you to wear your battle gear when around skyhold rather than your pyjamas.. and adding the 550 schematics because the RNG annoys the living **** out of me. I do not mind going and hunting for everite for 3 hours.. Often I might find something I missed.. but sitting at a chest save reload save reload for 3 f**king hours just to get a schematic that should be sold at a bloody merchant.. now that gives me the shits.

I did my first play through legit.. I am doing my nightmare play through at the moment.. legit.. Once I finish this play through I will most likely add all the schematics manually so as to help build the forums. (I am currently working on the puzzles and collectible locations on the fextralife wiki)

I'm not being bitchy about it. This is Biowares fault for not pin pointing where the ingredients are when the quests are given to you. Cheating is not the answer for solving the problem but for Bioware to fix the issue by making these ingredients more available once the quest is given to you.

Not enough facepalms in the world.

Someone cheating in a SP game has no effect on you. None. Whatsoever.

I'm still waiting for someone to come up with a cheat that allows me to adjust the number of items in my inventory easily. I would really like to be able to get as many Stone Hallas as I need to open all the doors. It really tweaks my OCD that I can't open all the doors just because there is an artificial limit on Hallas.

To me your point rather seems to be that the modder's dedicated commitment to adding features to a game relieves the game devs of their duty to fix the game the "right" way, making games as a whole worse when game mechanics that are inherently a bad design choice are encouraged and passed on to other titles because hey, cheats.

That said, I Ctrl+J'd around in BG2 like a madman if only to avoid those damn pressure plates and lava fields.

How you play offline is your business. You paid $60 bucks for a buggy game with lousy KB+M controls. The way I see it, Cheat Engine gives you a way to balance the game for you.

This.

i played my first 2 playthroughs without using any cheats, it was hard and unusual for me in the beginning(since da2 is much easier in comparison) but then it became alright.

On 3rd playthrough i decided to use Cheatengine for being able to wear armor in Skyhold and more money, since i have no patience to gather all materials all over again, i even bypass shards and the game becomes even more satisfying and less exausting now:) Im fan of Bioware rpg games because of the story and companions, not interested much in combat and all fetching quests.

I want to explain why cheating on Dragon Age Inquisition is just as bad as pirating the game (I seem to have a lot of people angry over this), and it does too effect others when you cheat on single player.

Cheating by using the cheat engine forcefully alters the game. If you go to your point section on Origins it clearly shows you that while you play the game, and gain achievements you also gain points from it.

I'm not entirely sure what these points consist with, or even know what you can do to them once you accumulated enough. Not sure if you can purchase DLC.

Well for me the Cheat Engine currently fixes what Bioware couldn't and supposedly "forgot" even though they advertised the extra effort they want for the PC - walking.

So I'm pretty much grateful for the tool and the modders, even though I would never ever cheat. Not even in singleplayer. Cheating is even worse in destroying immersion imho, even worse than bugs, because you do it willingly.
