I already hate the Store

Over the past two days I've received 4 Rares and 1 Unique. Yay me, right?

Wrong. The items were all useless for various reasons.

3 of the Rares were... exactly the same Bow (Longbow of the Partisan, Level 8) which were lower level and had significantly lower damage than my Level 16 Common Bow.

The Unique was... a Level 9 (Farslayer) with an interesting effect (chance to apply Poison), but otherwise still worse than my Common Bow.

The last Rare was my first Accessory, an Enhanced Grappling Chain Ring. That's... not a power I ever plan to use.

And unlike the ME3MP store, I can't grind my way through the bad Rares or Uniques to guarantee that I stop getting them. I will always have a chance to get the same crappy items every time I open a chest. Including a Bow I already have 3 copies of [not really, I scrapped them] or a Ring for a power no-one uses.

The Store is so annoying, it feels like I'm being punished for playing the game. :(

You ain't seen nothing yet. I'm at 320k+ gold spent, and right now it takes me about 50 chests to get anything that isn't salvage. And Half my characters are using blue weapons.

It helps me and my sanity to just look at the levels of the items instead of the rarity when determining whether or not an item is good. Rare and unique just mean better crafting materials.

The loot system is horrific  no doubt.

In fact the entire MP mode is a transparent attempt to get people to waste money on micro transactions.

Its mind boggling how bad it is.

I don't absolutely hate playing it even though it gets repetitive fast, but every time I get my next loot chest I find myself wanting to play less and less.

If you buy these chests with real money AFTER OPENING A FEW DOZEN FOR FREE you are the definition of an idiot. Open the dictionary and it'll just say "A person who paid $10 for four DAMP chests."

I certainly don't mind repetitive play -- but the second half of your sentence (that I bolded) explains exactly how I feel.

Look, I get the concept of grinding for loot. I understand the grind and in some way I even enjoy it... but only when the loot I get is actually worth getting. I don't like the thought that I have to grind for crappy loot just so I can salvage into crafting materials just so I can craft stuff that is barely better than the random loot I could've had in the first place.

Just typing that paragraph made me angry.

I have to admit, I'm not a fan of my luck so far.

I'm somewhere in the area of 100 hours played and my best weapon is a level 23 white bow.

Don't think I've found a purple item over level 15 yet (it was a level 17 purple that decided to nerf itself to a level 15)

I believe i have that level 23 white bow.

23 is the highest level item I've seen.

Common and rare weapons, lvl 20 and above with multiple crafting upgradr slots are good weapons when you start adding quality upgrades.

If the store is that bad, why would people spend real $$$ on it? Spending $50 or so of real $$$ and getting absolutely nothing return wouldn't make me come back for more of the same.

This forum is no where as active as the ME3 MP forum was at this stage after release....

Because people like to gamble?

Why do people play slot machines when their chances of winning are so low? *shrug*

I do wish you could use Platinum to buy a specific range of items (like, "pay X amount for a guaranteed Rare, Level 15 or better One-Handed Weapon") but that would literally be pay to play, so... ugh.

this is why it blows my mind when the vast majoirty of this site says they are cool with a random loot system.  it is beyond stupid and I can't stand it.  The gameplay is awesome, but being a member of a community that likes this is off to me as I don't fit in it.  I SOME random stuff is ok, but damn...even if its for A LOT of money, let me buy what I want...at the very least craft very good stuff.

I will never understand the people who love this system or see it as "fun".

If you played ME3 MP you're used to it.  Random loot really really sucks, but when it's good, and you get that amazing item, it's really really good.

Its not that it has randomness, that can be fine in and of itself - but the system is built in a way that overwhelmingly rewards you with absolute crap with little hope for progression.

Been playing for 100 hours? You're still just as likely to get a crappy starter dagger as someone playing for 1 hour.

There's no progression its just all RNG all the time.

I dunno.  Gambling is a lot of fun - for SOME people.  Same type of thing here: you buy a crate and roll the dice.  Sometimes it's awesome; most times it's crap.  But it's the possibility of a jackpot that makes it addictive - to SOME people.  If you're not one of them, then you're not one of them.  But how it can "blow" anyone's mind that this is addictive for many people is plain overstatement and not going to win you any arguments.

The lack of progression is the biggest problem. In ME3 at least you could see progress made however slow.

This and this.

It's why the ME3MP store never bothered me a bit, and the DAMP store is... well, I'll leave my unkind words at the door.

Not enough to compensate for how **** it is to grind enough cash to get enough tries to turn the RNG in your favor.

I hate RNG.

Even though I don't play CS:GO I think they have an interesting "trade up" feature if I recall. I wonder if such a feature could be implemented in this game where you could take something like 8 uniques (a completely arbitrary number I just made up and could be increased as necessary) and "trade up" for one guaranteed lvl 20+ unique. Sure, it would still be random as hell and you could still getting a crappy lvl 20 unique that has berserk on it but I think it'd be interesting. Just an idea off the top of my head though.

There are many possible ways to fix the loot system in da3mp, but imo by far the simplest option that will maximize replayability is to copy and paste the same exact system they have in me3mp. Allow all weapons or at least the rares and uniques to be viable, allow us to upgrade from rank I to X so that the currently very low drop rate can be improved, and give rares and uniques fancy abilities at the cost of some disadvantages that allow players to synergize them with different builds.

If such a system is implemented it should be kept in mind that right now, many people delete any weapons that aren't the best of what they have because they don't serve a purpose other than clogging up the limited inventory, so if bioware implements the same me3mp system, they should let it apply only to new drops, not existing equipment. I.e. please don't make level 5 uniques suddenly level 23 uniques, or all the people who deleted their currently useless uniques will be screaming bloody murder. The current system is just so bad right now that it should be completely overhauled and forgotten, a new system created where weapons are balanced with each other, and any existing weapons that are more powerful than the desired baseline nerfed to be in line.

The very very easy solution to the RNG store is...

Make the high level unique weapons craftable but have them require large amounts of materials and specifically tier 3 materials.  This way you can salvage all the uniques you do not want for the high tier materials and after salvaging 10-15 of these uniques you have enough materials to make the 1 lvl 20+ unique weapon/item that you want.

Problem solved.  You still must grind for the unique items, but this way you can use them to eventually grind yourself to the item that you do want.
