So I feel like I shouldn't ask, but what's a SJW? Straight Jock Warrior?

Try being a straight female in ME...you either get Kaidan, who is utterly nauseating with his whining about regs right after you screwed his brains out or Garrus/Batman. Pick Thane, he dies despite all the hints that there would be a cure to his disease. Or, you can pick Jacob, who they turn into the most racist stereotype I've ever seen, unable to keep his pants zipped for six months while you were locked away and turning into someone's baby daddy. Then they had the utter gall to have Kaidan tell you he "forgave" you for falling for Thane, when he was the one who told you in ME2 that he wished you were really dead rather than having Cerberus save you. ME3 was sickening, in more ways than one.

And, for some reason, BioWare loves to give straight females the shaft with these "bittersweet" romances that make me want to stab myself in the head with a firepoker. So yeah, I feel your pain. I'm glad they didn't shaft straight females as bad as before, but I don't like it that you guys feel screwed over. I don't care if they make big-boobed characters or scantily clad characters like Morrigan to appeal to you guys. And if that does offend some people, they need to get over it.

*Gasps*

You dare hate on Garrus?!?! Ragagagagaa!!!

But yeah, I love his character, but I hate it how Liara gets all the sparkly psychedelic sex scenes while Garrus is just a head butt. >_>

This as well. Female romances in ME were either tragic, or horrible. DAI gives us a "Thane" sort of scenario with romanced Cassandra possibly becoming the divine and leaving the player, but at least you can avoid that entirely by making different choices. Thane always dies. Jacob always cheats.

"Social Justice Warrior".   It's basically a four-letter word though.

But yeah, I love his character, but I hate it how Liara gets all the sparkly psychedelic sex scenes while Garrus is just a head butt. >_>

That headbutt was super-adorable though~

Oh, I love Garrus, without a doubt, but my main PC (and about three others) were more drawn to Thane's...shall we call it badassdom? The man knew how to make an entrance. And that whole memory thing...and the love scene right before the big showdown at the end? The quiet ones are often the most intense...  And make a good balance for my hot-tempered characters.

Garrus was a blast to romance, but I always wanted to slug him in the arm. He came off more like a f-buddy, lol.

Ahhh thank you. I know precisely what that is, I just couldn't translate it's abbreviated form.

It WAS really endearing, I guess I just like a lot more passion mixed in with the endearing.

"I had reach, but she had flexibility..."

Ok, you're off the hook, and yeah there are some characters in Bioware's game that I think would work better as more of a casual sex friend than an actual romance. Now if you carried on that relationship through multiple games then MAYBE the sex buddy in question would want something more. That would be neat.

My favorite romance was definitely Iron Bull. I feel like I waited five years to be given the possibility of an m/m relationship where the L.I. was just a normal guy who happened to like guys. It's not an issue with Iron Bull, and that's so hard to find, even in bioware games. Anders, Dorian, Zevran, all have to make some sort of speech about how it's "okay to be gay" and I think this really sets the relationship back. I know it is, I'm trying to romance them, why are you preaching to the choir?
That said, Fenris makes no mention of it, but my issue with him is also why I love Iron Bull. No drama. He's just a normal guy without a traumatic past or heavy burden, you don't have to hold his hand or listen to him cry or whine or anything. The few times he has issues, he doesn't throw a fit and dump you (Fenris), or sob about how he's a monster and you need to stay away from him (Anders). He just handles it like a mature well adjusted adult, either with a calm conversation, or ... with a stick.
In the future, I would love more gay romances where we don't have to have "the gay talk" every time. I'd love well adjusted characters who don't throw constant pity parties. I'd love DWARVES. (I cannot stress that one enough. Why does Bioware hate dwarves so?) I'd also like to see more unique cultures, in companions and love interests. I want to romance a dwarfy dwarf (I.E. Oghren) or an elfy elf (I.E. Tamlen) or a qunariy qunari (I.E. Sten). I think Bioware is scared of making characters within the cultures they've created, and most of their characters end up feeling human (Sera, Bull, Varric). But I'm playing fantasy, I want to see some fantasy.

- I know everyone said this already, but: DWARVES. I've been waiting almost fifteen years to be able to play as a dwarf and romance another dwarf, and I can wait a few more. But it is getting a little ridiculous. (Watch: next game will have a romanceable dwarf but no race selection, and I'll be thwarted all over again in a different way.)

- I think there should be an upstanding, knightly man who is gay, bisexual or pansexual. It's getting conspicuous that the fairy-tale prince types are always straight. A version of Alistair, Sebastian and Cullen who's into men to even the scales a bit, please.

- ... and because I know the fanbase is full of ladies who like ladies who are still sad about Cassandra, a woman at least as butch as her who is interested in the company of women. I think she should be a qunari, for good measure.

I think they should get rid of heterosexual male romances completely and just concentrate on the heterosexual female, lesbian and gay demographic. The male patriarchy has had enough influence in games and it needs to stop. Hopefully there will be no straight male options in the next game.

I say we take it even further and not let het guys play the game at all. They can still buy the game, but they get a picture of a laughing EA exec instead of a game disc.

So.. from what I have read.. And it was the whole thread.

you are all playing the game as our gender? (cis-gendered male btw)

I played Human Female first play through... (who was identical to my ME Sheppard so many wait the reapers moments for me)

Now playing as a Elven Female cause I really wanted to see the Sera romance play out... Too many fun convos during one 'quest' had me laughing.

My next playthough I will play as my cisgendered self.

I have a few things to say about the game and the sex equality that has been shown... So Please bear with me....

If they bring the Inquisitor back, then I want my beefy Blackwall back, tyvm. I considered the romance to be complicated, challenging, and rewarding (and his romance tarot card is hot - I'm allowed to be shallow on occasion!).

Damn.

Sorry posted b4 I was ready.   Can't find the edit button.

So far no one has mentioned the possibility of a romance with the transgender (Grim) woman (THE FIRST TRANS EVER) in this game.   He was possibly, besides one cringe worthy moment where you can ask them why pose as a man, a fantastic nod to Trans gendered people in the world.  As a man who generally plays as female characters in rpgs (even Table Top) I would have loved to have that Romance option.

Why because his character was left so few lines even when you explored all convo options with him.   Though the convo where he describes the loss of Iron Bulls eye is great..   I'll leave that to you to find and draw your on conclusions from... But IB is awesome just for that one convo.

So...

This has got to be one of the best games as far as equality goes to show women all gay or lesbian or pansexual people are portrayed.

First Trans, first totally gay male (as far as I recall), First lesbian Woman,   And perhaps most importantly... first Pansexual in Iron Bull.

This is the first game in a long time (read before I was aware) where I have not ever had one cringe at the way (sexually) women are portrayed.

Not one woman with CD's as an excuse for a breast plate (sides Morrigan, but she is fan service so meh), No attractive female dying to provide male with a Revenge Quest.  No obvious buttshots (i'm looking at you M2, despite how glorious they were).

Everyone in DA:I is a person, not a Sexobject.    I actually love that about this game.

[cue SJW and White Knight accusations]

I wish Vivienne and Harding were both romance options. But I have a feeling Harding is going to show up again in another game. Bioware needs to keep up its tradition of returning dwarf companions :-P

Not done with the game yet (nowhere near done), but I've watched pretty much all of the romances on youtube to see how they played out. At the moment, despite intending to ride the Bull, my character is leaning more toward Cullen. He's adorably sweet and I love the kiss scene where he basically shuts her up by kissing her. Full of awesome. Of course, the Iron Bull romance looks hilarious and awesome, too. And he clearly cares for the Inquisitor. Solas is extremely intriguing, but I don't like bittersweet romances. Give me happy or give me death. Well, not death...pisses me off when characters I like die or my stupid character dies, but I digress...

Personally, I'd love to see an option for a female PC where the guy makes the move, for a change. It actually worked that way with Alistair in DA:O if you didn't make a move and it was awesome. But giving the male a bit more confidence wouldn't hurt. Like Zevran, only taller. :P  Call me crazy, but the whole feminist thing is lost on me, and I'm a woman. I'm as comfortable carrying a weapon as I am cooking dinner and I don't get my panties in a wad if a guy holds the door open for me or acts like he has a spine and big set of balls. Hardened Alistair all the way, baby...and Cullen, pushing the Inquisitor on the desk after she asks he if really needs to ask...

My point is that I'd love to have a romance option where the male (and sorry, but he'd have to be straight), will call my character out for her BS instead of whining about it, or try to stop her from running head first into situations that she's ill prepared for (like if they programmed the AI so that, before I ran into that area of Hinterlands where the dragon is, Iron Bull grabs your arm, pulls you back and tells you, yeah you're a badass, but you aren't ready for a dragon yet...would've saved me getting my ass handed to me and could've pushed the romance a bit further too, or turned it off for women who aren't strong enough to deal with a strong man).

Other than that, the only other thing I'd ask for is to have a way where all of the romances can get happy endings. None of this leaving you or dying BS. Real life is depressing enough at times, I don't want it in my game.

Bolded: You should probably read up on it then instead of making those incredibly incorrect assumptions.

A guy doesn't have to be a douche bag or obnoxious in order to be "strong".

I'm glad Bioware didn't put in the kind of "romance" you are asking for. There's no way in hell I'd put up with a dude that would constantly second guesses my decisions or try to undermine my authority. We don't always need to see eye to eye but since my toon is the leader/hero they better at least be loyal and trying to hold me back when I go dragon hunting because he thinks I'm too weak is a big no no.

The fact that you are suggesting IRON BULL of all characters to do this kind of shows how out of touch you are with the character's personality.  :?

Then there's that little nugget about how it HAS to be a straight man and a straight woman, I mean seriously? Not enough nopes to reply to this kind of foolishness.

I'm thankful for the romances they give us where we have men who respect our decisions, our boundaries and see us as equals. Oversized children who have the need to show off just how masculine they are can exit stage left, please.

I do agree that it would be good to have some characters make a move first if they have enough approval. Anders making the first move WAS great and you know the people who complained about it are the same type of people who start that "Cassandra and Josie are too ugly to romance" thread. I just think the game should a bit more careful with the scripting since there were a handful of times I was already in an active romance with Alistair, Leli would do the infamous 'ninjamance'.

Back to DAI romances - I haven't finished my first PT yet but I'm thoroughly enjoying Cullen's romance. Kind of a given since I was fan in 2009 with DAO. I like that I can go after non party members, I like not having to worry about approval and that Cullen is ok with my shameless flirting with Dorian.

It would have been nice to have special dialogue for nonmage toons but I understand given his back story. Still, it does seem like all male LI since DAO and DA2 have special mage only dialogue. Would be cool to spread that love over to the other classes. Or lock out mages since it's supposed to a thing in the Thedas that mage romance is taboo. Would prefer option #1 though. Alternatively you could remove the special dialogue for mages (yes it removes the reactivity to players choosing mages but it also means there is more word budget for everyone instead of just mages only).

One thing i have to stress is how extremely thankful I am that Bioware is getting away from the dead wife/girlfriend angst fest. I think that's also why I really like Cullen's romance this go around too, it was less about the past (though that is/was important to a small extent) and more about the current situation. The drama that unfolds because of the here and now they have to deal with.

I would also love to see more people of color, LI or otherwise. (But since this is a request thread for romances.... )

There is more, winter palace, a few more cinematic dialogue scenes with her in skyhold that have romance dialogue, and quite a bit towards/at the end of the game.

I want to romance Bethany Hawke in one of my next DA Games! IN my playthroughs I made her a circle mage and a grey warden. I was quite dissapointed that she didnt made a cameo in DAI. She is the only Hawke I care for :)

Found the.... oh never mind.

You want to be treated as an equal in the relationship yet at the same time you want them TO RESPECT MAH AUTHORATHEE?

Sorry, but you can't have it both ways. If you're equals, they'll take your choices seriously, second guess them and call you out on your bullshit if your decisions aren't justified.

It wouldn't surprise me. Straight males already got the fewest options...a foreshadowing of things to come.

?  Uh......no they didn't.  They got two options, which is only the 'fewest options' if you mean that to be 'fewest options, along with gay men and lesbians who also got two options."  The only thing that seems to be 'foreshadowed' here is that Bioware will likely give two options to most players in future installments of the game.

There's no Shepard without Vakarian. Oh, wait, wrong game.

Solas. I was surprised that I actually liked a Dragon Age romance more than DA2's Anders Romance. I loved that one to bits. But, yeah. Solas happened and wouldn't go away. The crazy thing is, there were so few cutscenes - I just can't believe that's all. There must be more. There must be spoilers. Must be.

I think Sera, Dorian, Iron Bull and Cullen are all good romances. But I love Solas. It's mine. I feel it was written specifically for me. And that alone makes the game worth playing.

Solas made me forget that there were other romances in the game, which...I'm no longer interested in *shakes head*
