I really disagree with the claims being made that the straight males options were terrible and unattractive. Obviously it's purely subjective to the eye, there will never be a general consensus by all males on who's hot and who's not. I knew guys who thought Angelina Jolie (in her Tomb Raider days), wasn't attractive.

Since when have heterosexual males ever been punished for everything? While your statements are slightly misogynistic I am not sure it would be fair to lay the blame entirely on you as I guess it is a symptom of our male dominated society where heterosexual males have been put on such a pedestal and favored so much that their perception of equality has been skewed to the point that they believe that they are entitled by right to better treatment than women and any progress towards true equality is viewed as "punishment of heterosexual males".

 

While Bioware is more progressive in regards to tolerance towards women the fact that people still claim that "males are being oppressed" because people are asking for more respectful portrayals of women in video games tells me that we still have a long way to go.

 

While I am slightly disgusted by your behavior in this thread I do have to remind myself that it is probably more society that is at fault here in they have skewed the perception of gender roles in our society, all I ask is that you be more mindful and respectful of women in the future.

Heterosexual males haven't been punished for anything in Bioware games. Some SjW's have been going on a rant throughout the forum, and this thread, that bioware should remove all heterosexual romances from future titles. A member brought it up, to which I replied it would be pointless to punish heterosexual males given that in order to truly practice tolerance it must be for all, not for some. 

 

Your blanket feminist statements are beyond laughable. You make it sound as if there's this conspiracy by every man to keep women oppressed, take off your tinfoil hat and quit listening to propaganda. You spouting this drivel on a forum about a game is even worse, and this is overlooking the fact that all of these generalizations you make lack any factual basis. So I'll reiterate, read the discussion in its entire context rather than taking my words and skewing them to fit your agenda.

So you're disgusted by the fact that I fully support LGBT as well as heterosexual romances in game? Good to know, you could have kept that to yourself but at least you're being honest in front of the world. You've still yet to show how any of my posts could even be remotely perceived as being disrespectful towards women.

 

Now whenever you're ready to back up your accusations towards me with quotes + links that clearly demonstrate my "misogynistic" and "disrespectful towards women" behavior, perhaps I can take you seriously. But given I know my stance on these issues, I believe you're going to have a very difficult time finding evidence to support your baseless accusations. 

 

Furthermore, looking throughout this thread each and every one of your posts has a false preconceived notion about romances, or individuals in this thread. You start the thread by saying that all of the heterosexual male romances are too attractive, and too easy to romance. Yet evidently you didn't play them as Cassandra hits the player with disapproval for quite a while before she eventually admits wanting a relationship. Same for Josephine, she doesn't even realize that the inquisitor is even flirting with her. So how exactly is this easy, press A to win affection? Every comment you made in this thread thus far has been laced with blatant misinformation and misunderstanding.

I don't know what you mean by "lovey-dovey" but it certainly wasn't lacking in the affectionate department. Particularly towards the end. Josephine on the other hand though was a lot more affectionate than Cassandra in my opinion. But I like each romance for what they are. 

 

I thought it was Alli Hillis, but then I was skeptical. Had some Liara vibes to her but wasn't sure. Good to know.

I seen all the romances now on Youtube, and experienced Bull's.

 

I'm not sure favorite is the right word, but is the one romance that stunned me.  I was not expecting a romance where the main character end up the submissive partner.

 

I suppose it makes a certain amount of sense.  My male Addar is physically outclassed by exactly one person and that's The Iron Bull.  The fact that there is a romance option where you can play someone that feels the need to...surrender control for a short time?  Well, it was completely dumbfounding to me, and it just isn't often a video game genuinely catches me off guard anymore.  The scene where Bull lays out the rules was fantastic.  It was interesting to explore, even if it will be the only time I do it.

 

So, kudos to Bioware for putting that into their game.  Also, the dragon tooth scene was gut-bustingly hilarious.

Heterosexual males have been put on a "pedestal", for lack of a better term, because we are the core demographic in the gaming community. Still are. Don't even bring up the study which showed around 50% of gamers are women, because the methods they used in that study were highly flawed. My girlfriend plays Farmville every once in a while, but according to the ESA, she's a gamer. Which the prospect of people called a gamer would make her sneer.

 

I also do not believe that just because a woman looks sexy in a video game, doesn't mean it's a negative portrayal. If you want to see actual objectification of women in a video game, go play Ride to Hell: Redemption. But it's all about context in how it's done. In our society, sexuality is one of the best ways a woman displays her power. Don't believe me? Look at Rhonda Rousey and Gina Carano. Both these woman can beat up 99% of the male population at least. Yet why do guys like them so much? Why do they get so much attention in the sports industry, to the point where they've actually gotten movie deals? Cause they're both strong AND beautiful to boot. There's a reason why a man's greatest weakness is the beauty of a woman.

 

But I personally get bothered when people call characters like Bayonetta, Lara Croft, or Wonder Woman, examples of female objectification. When you have a strong female lead that's beautiful and has a great body, it's not because men are a bunch of misogynist pigs. It's because it's just another way to display that character's power. And no, I'm not saying it's a requirement for a strong female lead to look sexy, but I'm saying it's something that shouldn't be automatically frowned upon.

I've only done Dorians romance so far but I thought it was done very well. It had some very sweet moments as well as a few heart wrenching ones, I found it quite well balanced by far my favourite Dragon Age romance so far.

No, it's not. "Sexy" is not a display of power, it is a display of "sexy". Slave-Leia was "sexy" and is an icon of powerlessness. While it is certainly true that "being sexy" does not automatically have to objectify a character in practice it is almost always the case.
