As I tried to condense into the post title... I recently picked up Mass Effect 2. Having read that playing the first game really improves your experience I got that as well. I was planning on just playing straight through, the first part then export the character and play the second game.
I am playing on a laptop, its not old, has 4 gigs of ram, an AMD dual core processor, and an ATI 512 MB dedicated card. I can run Crysis on high settings without any issues, same with my other games. I also finished Dragon Age not long ago and that had zero problems.
Now my problem is that I can run Mass Effect 2 without any issues whatsoever, on high settings with a 1280x1024 resolution. However when it comes to Mass Effect 1, It stutters and is so slow and choppy even when I reduce it to 800x600 resolution with all minimal settings, no AA, no shadows nothing. I really would love to play and get absorbed in the story but the poor optimization of the pc version is preventing me from doing so. I'm patched to 1.02 and it has not made a difference. Does anyone have ane ideas as far as what I can do?
Right now I'm playing Mass Effect 2 and can't stop so I'll probably end up finishing it before I find a solution, but I would still like to play the first part and then replay ME2 with an exported character.
Mass Effect 2 = LOVE Mass Effect 1 = UNPLAYABLE please help

ME1 was a port from console, not optimized. ME2 was built from ground up with both console and pc in mind.
as far as improving performance. you can check here, it give many ways to increase graphics OR performance.

If you would like the benefit of multiple playthroughs with out actually doing them, you can dl a save that hast choice you would to play with in ME2 with. I still suggest you playthrough ME1 atleast once.

Thanks, the tweaks I already did, and the game somewhat runs, but is distractingly ugly and still gets choppy in combat. I was hoping there was some secret patch I didn't know about... or maybe something specific I could do with my Windows or with my ATI card. Thanks for the info though.
