I think there are just multiple interpretations. Both seem legitimate and had multiple people mention them.

This quest always spawns after his other personal quest. It's tied to his approval (and bugged, btw, so be happy you even got it).

Basically, what I got from it is that you have a big old homosexual crush on Dorian. It's okay. I won't tell anyone (unlike Mother Giselle).

Actually, Giselle won't tell because she refuses to utter the rumor near other inquisition members about my alliance with a Tevinter Mage even though everybody knows about my alliance with the Tevinter Mage.
