I have a couple different Shepard's that should have valid save files for import to ME2 on my 360 but I'm getting the message "No character data found" when I run the import utility.

I thought there was supposed to a separate Mission Complete game save file for each playthrough.  Please tell me I don't have to finish my second playthrough with each of my Shepard's to import them.

<argh>

Sorry to bump this, but does anyone have an ideas on this?

Was I completely mistaken in thinking I should have valid Mission Complete saves for the first playthrough on my ME1 Shepards or do the get over written when you start an NG+?

They aren't supposed to get overwritten, to the best of my knowledge, but I have no advice on how to fix.

i think i read somewhere that the saves had to be done on the same system? are you trying on the same system as the saves were made on? also, you need to use a hard drive if you already aren't

It must be a Mission Completed game in order for any importing to take place between ME1 and ME2. Meaning the game -has- to be completed with the final mission done in ME1, credits rolling and etc in order to import your Shepard from 1 to 2.

Make sure that you are saving your game after the fight.  I beat the game and didn't bother saving at the last instant (when you have a completed file) and was getting the same message as you.  Mayhaps that is the issue, hope this helps.

I finished a game in ME1, and I still can't access the import character option. On top of all that, I can't get access to the Cerberus Network to download my armor, weapon, and missions. Crappy night thus far with this game...

Yeah, I finished the game and have since started NG+ from the same character.

I'm trying to recall when I got the Elite, I might have finished the games on my old 20GB Pro. That would seriously blow if changing the system invalidated the saves what w/ the stellar reliability of the xbox hardware and all...

But your previous playthroughs should still be importable even if you havent finished your most recent playthrough. Have you ever deleted your profile or created a new one? Are your saves on the HDD or a memory unit?

Edit:  Also try starting a new game+ in ME1 and see if there is an option to import any of your old saves.  If old saves are showing there than you should be able to import those into ME2.  At least thats what the devs are saying.

Hmm.. OK, I thought the save got exported automagically when you hit the end.

Thank for the replies guys.

Sorry if I'm freaking out, just really wanted to get rolling on part 2.

Same thing here, I'm pissed, I have a level 60 complete, but no character found.

HDD, but if I did indeed finish the game on my Pro they were transfered over to my Elite via memcard.

Ah, theres your problem dude.  There is no way to transfer the hidden end game save with a memory unit, they are created on the HDD that you used to beat the game.  So yeah, you're just gonna have to go ahead and refinish your last playthrough so a new endgame save is created on your elite.

Ack!  Oh well.  Serves me right for not wanting to wait for MS to send me a transfer cable I guess...

At least I'm pretty sure I still have a save from right before the Saren battle.  Maybe I'll take this opportunity to see if I can get Anderson on the council instead of that **** Udina.

Thanks for the troublehooting assists guys.

If anyone is having this problem with the PC version, it seems you have to run the configuration utility in the startup menu

I can see this problem happening with me, It seems Bioware really botched this **** up nothing seems to be working for anyone.

My saves are under my Online profile but they were originally on my offline profile and I copied them to my Online profile, I just switched to my online Profile and clicked Copy in memory and they transferred.

Honestly if I can't transfer my character, ME2 will probably sit in a corner and collect dust, until I find the will to go through a new playthrough.

I'm having the same problem. I know I've beat the game twice and am in the middle of the third play-through. Don't understand where my character is.

Good news everybody!

After replaying the Saren fight and letting the credits roll, I now have a valid import.

If the others encountering an issue have a save file before the Saren fight you will most likely be able to generate a Mission Complete save by loading it up and replaying through the last 20 minutes or so of the game.

OK I found my solution. Run the configure utility. One of the tabs is for saved games from ME. Use it to tell ME2 where to find your previous ME saves. Then import away!

Hmm my saved games show up but they don't seem to load.  This is very frustrating.
