Good news everybody!

After replaying the Saren fight and letting the credits roll, I now have a valid import.

If the others encountering an issue have a save file before the Saren fight you will most likely be able to generate a Mission Complete save by loading it up and replaying through the last 20 minutes or so of the game.

This is what I figured you would have to do. Because I bought a 360 without a hard drive and since then I've had a hard drive attached I will also have to load the last save before I fought Saren I assume right?

Ugh so the end game save is some kinda hidden file? Jeez why make it so difficult. Maybe if I import my character on my brother's system I can save to my mem unit and transfer it to my system. But come hell or high water I'm getting my import even if I have to rent ME1 and play the end over again!

Open the configuration utility, and their is an option to "copy save games."  Just point it to where your ME1 saves are and voila.  All my saves are there after seeing nothing at first.  And this isn't even in the manual.

Had to beat the game again using an old save file for my character to load in ME2. Good thing I saved just before the end of my first play-through. Only problem is now I'm at level 48 when I should have started ME2 at level 56... Oh well, at least my character and all my extras are there.

Are you talking about the PC or 360 version?

They are under thye document folder of your sepcific windows user account folder ... either under Bioware or straight Mass Effect. (at least for WInXP). For Win7 it is in a simialr area (user/(my )documents).

Unfortunatly I can't remember the exact path as I haven't got ME installed on the PC I'm using atm, so you would have to browse the MyDocuments / Documents subfolders.

I've got Neko's problem. I can't find the saved games folder to import the file. Any help would be appreciated. (And yes both games are on the same hard drive and credits rolled)

Are you guys talking about the PC? If so do a google search for your answer. Search something like Mass Effect 1 save file location on xp or vista. Whichever OS you have it's a different location I believe. Then you use the config utility to import the save for Mass Effect 2.

As for the council thing I wouldn't worry about it due to what happens in ME 2.

Me being the Achievement-**** that I am, lol, I just went back through as a totally different Shepard to work on the Biotic/Tech Achievements. I also decided to make different decisions this time so I could import to ME2 again and see what kind of differences that made. However, for whatever reason the only importable character was my original one from ages ago. I read all the replies on here and this is on my 360 Elite, same HDD that I completed ME1 with, etc. I let the credits roll through as I did the first time, and then popped in the ME2 disc to try to import. Both ME1 characters are there, but only the first one is "importable". I've tried re-killing Saren and completing the game over again 3 times. So now I have multiple copies of my 2nd character, all still unable to import. Am I doing something wrong now? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is the exact problem I am having. My character shows up, but it is not importable. I have beat Saren 3x now with the character trying to get this to work but the name of that character is red on import into ME2

Have you tried using the D-Pad to cycle through the names?
