Anyone else find the companions in this game better than the ones in Dragon Age: Origins?

None of them beats Sigrun, anyway.

Sigrun was one of the few bright spots in Awakening. It's just too bad that I can never find the enthusiasm to ever play it again.

I still prefer DAO companions. No DAI ones made me fall deeply in love with him like Zevran did. None made me want just sitting by the fire and listening to her stories like Leliana did. I could go on like that. Yet, I like some DAI companions. Dorian is a funny and adorable guy. Cassandra is a harsh sweetie. Solas is the mystic man with strange reactions. Iron Bull is the one who likes living. But even if I didn't really like Oghren or Sten, they didn't made me think "no way" as I do with Sera.

I also don't get why some of my DAI companions are here. Sera, why is she here? Sure she told me, but I didn't find her explanation believable. Why Vivienne is still with me when we disagree so much about Circles? In DAO, companions could leave if we disagreed too much. I agree that DAO companions seemed to be more attached to the Warden when most of my DAI companions seem more attached to the Inquisition symbol.

The party banters seem less fun to me in DAI too (to the exception of the ones between Iron Bull and Dorian).

But in DAI, I prefer my advisers than my companions (and I would never have thought to find Cullen likable. ^^; )

That all said, the best companion is still Varric, even if I preferred him in DA2.

Yes DA I has the overall better characters especially if you throw in Cullen , Josie and Leliana it becomes no contest at all.

Okay, what if we don't look at characters as a whole, but just specific characters?

Between Sten or the Iron Bull, who's the better qunari party member? :)

I preferred the Origins cast. I like how they developed over the course of the game depending on how you interacted with them. Morrigan and Alistair are two of my favorite Bioware characters.

While the Inquisition's companions are definitively cool there is no contest when comparing them to origins companions, in my opinion.

The mysterious ice hearted witch of the wilds who has a softer side if befriended/romanced

The possibly delirious vision-seeing red haired chantry sister with a dark past who you are able to significantly influence

The wise cracking fellow grey warden who turns out to be royalty who you once again can significantly influence, including giving him a throne or not

The mother like mage who offers heartfelt advice

The lustful Antonio Banderas elven assassin. An enemy possibly turned ally.

The blunt funny dwarf who actually acts like a dwarf

The stone faced Qunari who's "No" echoes throughout time itself

The dog. Man's best friend, a war hound.

A dwarven war golem.  A DWARVEN WAR GOLEM.

Secret companion: Loghain. One of the games primary antagonists turned possible ally, a genius move by bioware

In inquisition it feels like nearly every companion and adviser has other places to be and will leave you once the work is done. You are temporary allies, friends maybe even, but there is no close bond IMO unless romanced. The only time i got that feeling in Origins was with Sten and Morrigan (though her reasons are clear and make sense). I can see every other companion following your warden to the end times it's just that Bioware didn't write it like that.

They definitely feel more real and alive compared to previous DA games. I think the "dirty dozen" of ME2 are probably the best work Bioware has done in terms of companions. DA:I isn't quite there yet but at least the gap has narrowed.

Alistair and Cassandra are my favourite Bioware characters in the history of Bioware... But I like Alistair slightly more so the point goes to DA:O I guess.

They both have a very good set of characters, and stand eye-to-eye.

So... is there really any reason to pick DA:O over DA:I or viceversa?

Good is good, that's it.

I think DA2 actually had the best companions, because to me they felt like they genuinely have a life apart Hawke, but like to hang out with him (or watch out what he's doing if you rival them). They were also the first to actually hang out with each other and talk about stuff they did together without you.

DA:O, the characters were a little underwhelming, because most only came with my Warden  because we needed to save the world, similar to DA:I, although the Inquisition has somewhat more offers of motivation than just to stop Corypheus like helping people along the way or go into politics.

In terms of characters themselves, it's more dependent on whether you like how they were written, and DA2 and DAI had more companions that I simply liked. But that doesn't mean that DAO is aweful because of that, it just didn't engange me that much despite interesting characters (like Sten and Shale).

I still think Morrigan is the best companion in any BW game to date... she's just so interesting.  Plus, her voice actress is fantastic.

While DAO had a couple of particularly stand-out companions (Morrigan, Sten) for the most part I barely remember or care about the rest of them. It wasn't that I didn't like them while playing through the game, it's just that they're all so generic. Inquisition has Sera, which is not a plus, but the rest of the companions are endearing and felt a lot more like actual people to me.

Both DA2 and DAI have better companions, imo. I barely remember Origins besides Alistair, Morrigan and Leliana. Oh, and Zevern. But I never got really got attached to them. I wouldn't blink twice about making a certain warden stay in the fade rather than sacrifice Hawke.

My analysis of the companions:

Sera is the most annoying companion since Anomen. That's saying a lot.

That is hilarious. Anomen was such a tool. Man, I hated that guy!

Regarding characters from DAI.

Solas: I really like him as a mage, and I dig his specialization a lot. However, I do think he is a little dull.

Casandra: Fast becoming my favorite character in the game. In terms of her personal story and plot.

Varric: Same as DA2, meh.

Cole: Please go away

Blackwall: A huge improvement over Allistair or Aveline. Great tank, great spec and I really enjoy his banter with Viviene.

Viviene: She is growing on me.

Dorian: Go hang out with Cole you twerp. The stupid Necro Tree makes him untolerable just for the bugginess. Plus, his outfits look stupid. I mean they are not even flattering.

Sera: Shut Up. I like her for archery. She is just slightly more tolerable than Varric

Iron Bull: Meh. Sten was Classy.

My fast go to party is becoming Blackwall or Cassandra, Viviene and Sera.

I think DAO's cast was slightly better.  DAI's cast is great, don't get me wrong, just didn't have the same overall feeling and theme as DAO, is all.

Solas - Love and respect him more than is decent

Cassandra - Hate that she's a religious bigot at times, but love that she has much more depth than meets the eye; she's well-rounded and well-written

Varric - Varric is Varric, and he's never NOT with me

Cole - Absolutely loved Cole

Blackwall - Really enjoyed having him around with me, and his story arc was well done

Vivienne - Never spoke to her unless I had to, I have an unhealthy distaste for that woman...

Dorian - Great to chat with, was interesting, unfortunately couldn't take him with me over Solas

Sera - Couldn't stand her, hate how narrow minded and simple she is, but I warmed up to her slightly near the end

Iron Bull - Didn't really like him all that much, but didn't dislike him either, and felt that Fred Jr.'s voice didn't suit his character at all

The problem with Bull is that he's basically James Vega combined with a Minotaur. Freddie Jr. doesn't disappear into the character. I'm a big Vega fan, but I already had Vega. Still enjoy Bull a great deal though. Jennifer Hale, however, conceals herself quite nicely in Krim.

DA3 has more good characters, but DA1 had some better individual characters. In my opinion no one in DA3 comes close to Morrigan, or even Oghren and Alistair, whether I liked them or not they were just better characters. However outside of these few select characters DA3 companions are much better on an average, characters like Wynne, Sten or Zevran weren't that memorable.

They're fine, maybe not as good as Origins', could've used more dialogue/getting to know.

None of them are though as amazing as Mordin Solus. Best of the best, no question.

Good thing I didn't say she wasn't well written then no? But I had little to no interest in her (thankfully she improved in...Inquisition.) so yeah.

That said I find her writing to be good. Just like I find several other characters (Alistair, Zevran, Wynne, Bull, Cole) writing to also be good. Do I think she's better? No not really.

Opinions and all that.

For a reason you hate her character then ignore every character development that happened.
