Anyone else find the companions in this game better than the ones in Dragon Age: Origins?

I felt that DAO's cast was overall much stronger. The romanceable four were brilliant and I also liked Wynne & Sten even if others hate them to death (literally). Oghren was the only one that I disliked. DAI on the other hand? I loved Cassandra, Cole, Solas & the advisors but really couldn't care less for anyone else. The fact that it got dangerously close to ME2's level of companion interaction certainly didn't help - it felt like I barely knew half of them. I had my hopes up for DAI proving that Bioware could do a large cast of characters properly but I'd rather they return to smaller groups like what we had in DAO & DA2.

?

Did I miss something?

Anyway I too prefer the DAI companions more than the DAO ones. Hell I like the DAO companions more in Inquisition than in origins.

I have a feeling that the nostalgia that people have for Origins is going to result in a lot of people putting the Origins characters first. Personally, I think both casts are on par, even though I do feel that nostalgia for Origins (every time anyone posts Zevran dialogue it reminds me of how much I miss him). I never really got into the Morrigan-Alistair power duo though. Their sniping at each other wasn't exactly the highlight of my Origins experience.

I feel like the companions in Inquisition have more personality overall and a lot more potential for further growth, but I didn't connect with any of them like I did with Morrigan or Alistair. That's why I'm really hoping we continue as the Inquisitor for at least another game or two. There's a lot of potential there but for the moment it feels like we've barely scratched the surface.

That's probably my biggest gripe with Inquisition. I finally felt that I'd gotten to know everyone and then the game snatches the rug out from under me by ending.

I mean, it's not a deal-breaker by any means (Bioware how dare you make me want to learn more about your characters!), and some of them have more potential for future growth than others (I'm pretty sure I know Varric quite well after two games), but the game ended with me feeling that there was so much more I wanted to see the Inquisition do.

The thought of DLC is giving me hope, but while I had a real sense of closure from Origins and DA2, I think Inquisition needs more development in order to really do it justice.

No one will ever replace my morrigan, even though I found her very distrustful in inquisition but had I been my warden I would've been like "sure babe drink from the well" or "yeah we'll do this puzzle if that's what ya want".

Not even close to DA:O companions.

Well Oghren and Zevran didn't really do anything for me, but the I loved the rest (Alistair, Morrigan, Leiliana, Shale, Sten). There isn't a single companion in DA:I that I love.

I only liked several of them here. But liked them a lot.

In retrospect, I'd probably say the same for DAO. Liked a few in DAO a lot, while the rest were so so. It's not as bad as ME3, where I hated almost everyone.

Don't forget Wynne and Morrigan. Their back and forth can get pretty sour. I've been putting a little time into Origins lately, and I find that now my patience for some of the companions can wear a bit thin much faster, especially Wynne and to some extent Alistair. She actually makes me miss Vivienne.

Personally my favourite cast my a country yard was DA2.

Then Origins.

Inquisition is in clear third imo, not to say that it has horrible companions just a weaker overall set.

Collectively, the Inquisitor's companions only edge out a few of the Origns gang overall. They are superior to DA 2's companions by a wide stretch and the current batch may be my favorite group in this franchise.

This.

There might be individual DAO characters I like more than their DA:I equivalent (Sten > Iron Bull or Leliana > Sera for example), but overall I like the DA:I bunch better as a group.

Zevran was a lot of fun, and his romance is one of my all-time favorites. Oghren is one of the best companions Bioware has ever written, yet people only see him as comic relief. Shale was interesting. Leliana's dichotomy of "naïve Chantry girl" and "former spy/assassin" was great. I like all of them better than the Inquisition companions save Blackwall (who is my new favorite companion ever). Sten was way better than Bull. And that's before we dig into the Awakening crew, who were all glorious.

I preferred the romance options in DA:O to DA:I (morrigan and Leliana were awesome LI's), but I prefer the overall cast of DA:I. I would rank Solas/Bull/Cole/Sera/Dorian above all of the DA:O companions in terms of how interesting the interactions with them were.

Morrigan still best companion doe.

If it weren't for Loghain I might agree but Loghain is my favorite BW character (not just companion) and I don't think that will change anytime soon.

That being said, DA:I Leliana >>>>>> DA:O Leliana

well DA:I companions are just dull and boring...

Iron Bull has 0 charisma (in two playthrough I haven't used him yet)...

Cassandra's is ok but kinda meh...

Sera is just annoying and I can't stand her noisy and childish voice...

Vivienne has some interesting banters with cole, varric and Blackwall, she reminds me of Morrigan in some ways, but she to up tight and narrow minded.

Varric is same as DA2, it's a funny dwarf but nothing really new there...

Solas... well I kinda like is views on demons and spirit but the character is kinda boring overall

Cole is interesting, I overlooked him on my first playthrough, but kinda like his story.

Dorian is insufferable, I don't like anything about him and would gladly kill him on the spot.

Blackwall is maybe the most interesting character of the cast... at least he surprised me the most.

That's not a bad cast per say, but I preferred DA:O, mainly for morrigan and Ohgren I have to admit x)

Well the only companion in DAO i liked was Morrigan so for me DAI is a major improvement, it actually has 4 characters i like (Varric, Cass, Sera and Dorian), which is as many as in the previous two games combined (Varric, Isabela and Aveline in DA2)

Hm.  Way I see this, give it...oh...two years of playthroughs.  The we'll have established out headcanons of the these people, written fanfics, drawn comics, and so forth.  Just like with the companions of DA:O.  Then we can compare how much people love the two casts of companions.  Right now its just the old vs the new.

She's no longer a companion, though... and, since I'm playing through DAO again right now, she also has changed quite a bit, and not necisseriliy for the better.

All in all, I think DAO's companions where "better" overall. Their individual stories where longer/deeper and more intriguing (not to mention two of them got extended by DLCs)... also, the "personality quirks" most DAI characters have are starting to feel quite forced.

If anything I personally think the Dragon Age 2's group were the strongest. Hawke's team had some weak points. Like Fenris who I felt would have been better suited in a JRPG but some fans love him so even he serves a point. However the big thing with the DA2 group is that they felt like a group of friends that enjoyed hanging out with each other. Best of all Hawke would respond to their dialog with each other and make me feel like my character was part of it rather then a creepy stalker who silently spied on other peoples conversations.

There was tons of scenes when you walk into the Hanged man and see Isabella play dice with Merril for example or Varric proposing some silly thing to Aveline in the keep. DAO and DAI had a bit of that but I feel the Dragon Age 2 companions was the closest to a group of real people/team.

DAO was boring. Except Leliana and Morrigan, who got better in DAI (though i do miss softy Leliana)

DAI has amazing companions, Sera being the best.

Edit: da2 had better companions than dao as well.

Agreed, but, then again, the overall idea of DAI's team seamed to be that they are quite disconnected from each other and the inquisitor... it just didn't quite work, sadly.

I really liked the DAO cast of characters. I got a little invested with them on that adventure. I don't feel the same way about the DAI cast. I actually am sort of pissed at them. Sort of like a boss I guess. I am the Inquisitor. I don't want to deal with their B.S. I want them to deal with mine!  LOL
