Ok, so as the title says , is  his main side quest bugged ?I mean " The Last Resort of Good Men" ( i am not reffering to the tavern issue).

I read somewhere that it may be bugged for some people, i can't understand why in 2 playthroughs it has not triggered.

And yes, I have for the majority of what i can tell had a lot of approval from Dorian , I sided with the mages, allying with them, spared Alexius, made him work for the Inquisition, did the One Less Venatori with him in party.

So i can not understand why Mother Giselle won't give the quest, i have spoken often to her and Dorian, and like I said I got mostly approval from him.

I have gotten all side quests from all the other companions and advisors, even from Vivienne , which from what i could tell got mostly disapproval.

So i kinda dont know what to do.

Thanks in advance.

Yes.  It's known bug.  I've seen a bunch of people max say that they've had high approval for him and the quest just never popped for them.  I blame it on Mother Giselle.  She has a thing against Tevinters, you know.

In fact, I've seen some die-hard Dorian fans just decide to romance someone else because it's impossible to get his romance to trigger without it, which is a shame.

I never got his personal quest either.

And at the end he just kept saying he was staying on since he only had one friend left.

I was like, "If I'm a friend, why no quest??"

Although after finishing and going back to war room, there were some quest markers that disppeared in Orlais NW corner.....so I think I might have needed to do one of them to get the quest rolling.

It was 'bugged' for me but in a different way.

I did receive the quest. But when I went to the tavern in Redcliffe, it was completely empty and the cutscene with Dorian's father wouldn't trigger. I had to leave the tavern and walk back in a couple of times before it finally triggered the cutscene.

I am feeling incredibly fortunate that I didn't get this bug.  It would have been devastating to me to not be able to romance Dorian in my go-around.

Sorry to hear that people are missing out on that story.  It's a good one, so it's totally worth exploring it in future playthroughs.

In your next playthrough try talking to Dorian as soon as you get to skyhold, and leaving skyhold and coming back to talk more till you get him to talk about Felix, and then the Mother should show up in the main hall with the note.

I've found it's best to unlock his sidequest before doing any more main quest things.  Maybe even wait about meeting with Hawke, but certainly don't do the quest with Hawke before you get Dorian's quest.  For whatever reason it doesn't seem to trigger if you progress the story.  That's only based on my personal experience and from all the information I have read from other players though.

If you are having trouble getting him to talk anymore (and still no mention of felix) do his war table quest and kill the venatori agents in the hinterlands to boost his friendship.  He should open up about the felix situation then for sure!

Good thing to know that it's actually a known issue and not something I overlooked.

I think i will wait untill they release the first patch, till i make another playthrough or "reboot" my main character's story, good thing i save often in this kind of games.

Thanks for the answers.

Just go to another area and return to Skyhold, it should show up.

And if the tavern is empty do the same.

I got the bug too. Quest wouldn't show up so I left, explored a little and then Mother Giselle gave me the letter.

Tavern as well. It was empty so I reloaded and the quest trigered as soon as I got in.

Yeah I never got his personal quest which is a shame because I was looking forward to it, romanced or no. :(

I kept talking to him and he barely had anything to talk about. Yet he called my Inquisitor his friend soooo I don't know what happened.

I got some scenes out of him, but nothing else really.... again, sad.

Did you romance someone before doing his quest? I notice that I can no longer do his quest after romancing Cassandra but I have a preload save that let me finish his quest.

When I played as my FemInquis, I had no trouble getting his personal quest. I didn't flirt with him, though. I had already met with Hawke and exhausted both Dorian's and Mother Giselle's dialogues. Everything flowed smoothly... for her.

However, now that I am playing as a male character, I've flirted with him every chance I got, completed the One Less Venatori quest, Alexius now works for the Inquisition (as I did with my FemInquis), and have yet to get a disapproval. I have yet to get his quest. I only recently got him to talk about Alexius after the judgment. Maybe the bug is tied to him talking about Felix? I haven't triggered that dialogue yet with my male Inquisitor.

The only thing different between the two was the flirting aspect. I don't know if that helps.

The best I can tell is that the bug is triggered by getting too much approval with Dorian and or exhausting all conversation options before reaching skyhold. All my characters who I tried to romance Dorian with were unable to get the quest as I was more interested in talking to him and thus spent a lot of time talking/flirting with him in Haven and thus getting his approval. While  my characters who had little to no approval with him and had barely spoken to him at all got the quest no problems. If you want to romance Dorian, don't talk to him at all (unless its to ask about Alexius, which is fine) until you get to skyhold. You'll get the scene where he congratulates you on being inquisitor. Then speak to him immediately after and he should mention Felix and then Mother Giselle will be in Skyhold's throne room, so go talk to her to get the letter from Dorian's family. If that doesn't work try travelling outside of skyhold and then coming back. Those all worked for me. If your still having trouble after that then I don't know what to do.

Good luck!

I never got his quest; I didn't even know about Mother Giselle. But then she kept disappearing on me at the garden so I could never talk to her.

That's not it because I've gotten it to trigger with little to no approval and had characters with very high approval be locked out of it.  My tests included siding with the Templars and Mages and many many dialog variations netting some or no approval.  Some event at Skyhold is bugging one of Dorian's cutscenes from triggering.

For Mother Giselle to appear in the hall, the only pre-requisite is watching Dorian's cutscene in which he tells you about Félix's fate.  The problem is, something is causing this particular cutscene to be locked out.  I suppose having more approval is better than disapproval, but like I said I've received the quest with little approval.  Something between the events of Haven to Skyhold is bugging him.

For those having trouble, I recommend talking to Dorian sparingly at Haven if you sided with the mages, and don't inquire about Alexius until after getting Mother Giselle to appear.  If you sided with the Templars, immediately recruit Dorian before talking to anyone at Skyhold, then leave and come back.  Everything should be cleaned up (it needs to be this way for Giselle to appear), talk to Dorian and it SHOULD trigger the Félix cutscene.  If not, do Dorian's Request on the war table and it should open up One Less Venatori.  Talk to him and hopefully that will trigger the cutscene.  I remember on one play through I had to gain two greatly approvals before it would trigger, but on the play through after that it triggered with only one "slightly approves".

Wow that is so sad. I hope they patch that soon. I'm having a similar issue with Blackwall. No matter how high his approval is I can't get his side quest. It doesn't both me nearly as much but it is content I would like to experience.

I have a different, different bug with Dorian, involving the quest to find and return his family amulet or whatever heirloom was that.

I have a male Inquisitor with the gender bug. Most of the NPCs consider me female, but Dorian (along with Cullen) for whatever reason still considered me male. So for kicks, I decided to flirt with Dorian. Now, when I returned his amulet, his conversation was so lovey-dovey that I couldn't take it anymore. So I reloaded my game to right before giving his amulet and broke up with him first. Now, whenever I try to return his amulet after breaking up with him, nothing happens. The conversation just immediately ends and I still have the darn quest in my journal.

in both of my playthroughs at skyhold, he talks about receiving news from/about felix depending on what route you took, then his quest triggers with mother giselle in the main hall... it is only after this conversation that this quest triggered for me both times....  Its also probably wise to explore for a while and not do storyline quests immediately after in your heart shall burn as you can miss things if you advance the story too quickly

Ugh... now I'm frustrated. I think I'm just going to stop playing until they fix it.  This was one of the features I most  looked forward to. Might as well play something that doesn't leave a rock in my craw whenever I start it up.

Edit:

Well... my compulsive saving has paid off. I have a saved game from right after Redcliffe castle. I'll try some of the tricks mentioned here. I don't have to start over.

I wanted to bump this thread and post my experiences with this quest, and state that this post was helpful to me.

In my second play I had intended to romance Dorian. Because I like him as a character, I chatted him up in Haven and exhausted all of his conversation options. When I finally got to Skyhold I was never able to trigger any other dialogs with him other than special ones that would happen after story events (Adamant and so forth). Mother Giselle never appeared with the quest for me.

I truly believe that the problem lies in chatting him up in Haven and exhausting his conversation options. I abandoned this play about 30 hours in after reading this post. I've since started a third play and I was able to successfully romance Dorian. In Haven, I saved both of his conversations (personal info and Tevinter), and only talked to him regarding quest prompts or when he initiated conversation ("Did you know we're related?" for a Trevelyan). When I finally got to Skyhold I did my usual round of talking to everyone to hear their new Skyhold lines. I also had not talked to Hawke or progressed in the story. I left Skyhold and zoned into another map (Hinterlands) to refresh Skyhold. On talking to Dorian again (conversation about Felix, which did not appear in my failed play, but did in my first femQuis play), Mother Gilselle appeared with my quest. Everything played out normally from that point on.

I did also have the tavern bug, but that was fixed by leaving and going back in.

I think another potential problem is judging Alexius before you speak to Dorian and get the "Felix Letter" cutscene. I did this my first time around and the quest never triggered, but I avoided it on my second time and was able to get the quest with no problems.

I'm having trouble getting any dialogue with Dorian at Skyhold. I remember being able to talk to him at length at Haven and a little bit once we got to Skyhold, but not at all since then. I can have varying conversations with everybody else at Skyhold and have been able to all game-long, except for him! I'm wondering what's going on. (I'm 3/4 finished with my 1st playthrough.)

Also, how many side quests does he have? I did the one where he met with his father and the one where I had to bring him along to kill 3 Venatori. Are there any more?

There is another one if you pursue the romance path. For that one, when you head toward the spiral stairs of the tower where Solas, Dorian, and Leliana are there is an Inquisition messenger waiting there who calls your attention to a Dorian-related issue.

I've always exhausted his dialogue before leaving Haven and never gotten the bug. (haven't played a human yet, so maybe that's part of it) I've heard this might also have to do with what you choose to say when you become Inquisitor - the line "Corypheus must be defeated" or whatever is safe, (and it's what I've chosen) but other options might result in this bug. But again, I've never had this bug.

For everyone who had the quest bugged, did you side with the mages?

Because I never had any problems with his side quests during two playthroughs so far. I sided with the templars each time.
