Sided with the Mages on my first playthrough and I had no problems. I never even figured out there was a glitch since I got it on my first or second trip through skyhold.

Wow that is so sad. I hope they patch that soon. I'm having a similar issue with Blackwall. No matter how high his approval is I can't get his side quest. It doesn't both me nearly as much but it is content I would like to experience.

Have you finished Adamant yet?

For everyone who had the quest bugged, did you side with the mages?

Because I never had any problems with his side quests during two playthroughs so far. I sided with the templars each time.

I think I have the quest bugged too. I sided with the Mages, I did Dorian's 1st quest (One less Venatori), I keep talking to mother Giselle but the quest never pops up.

Thanks for the thread, it's indeed useful to know that it may be a bug.

Yeah I never got the bug on my first play through, but unfortunately when I was actually romancing him on my next play through the bug hit. So I had to go back and redo about six hours of gameplay just to get his quest to trigger and start the romance. What an annoyance and with how many other bugs I've found is the other reason I can never give this game a 5/5.

Honestly I found the best way to avoid this bug is following this set pattern, recruiting Templars or if you recruit the mages, wait, finish everything you need to, (venturing to storm coast, fallow mire, etc.) then continue the main quest line and recruit the mages.

Talk to him at Haven but save before every conversation, since going into Alexius fate bugged it for me.

Once your at Skyhold talk to Dorian before anyone else, then leave and talk to him again and he goes into Felix's letter and the quest line triggers.

Hope this helps.

Seems I'm having the same issue as many others. Dorian and I were BFF's my first playthrough but now on my 2nd he won't let me do his personal quest at all. Weeeeird.

^ My playthrough with the templars is the one giving me issues. With my mage playthrough I had no trouble getting the quest, I even killed Alexius and didn't even do Dorian's war table request + "One Less Venatori"

The fact that this bug been around for nearly a month now is RIDICULOUS

If you sided with the Templars, immediately recruit Dorian before talking to anyone at Skyhold, then leave and come back.  Everything should be cleaned up (it needs to be this way for Giselle to appear), talk to Dorian and it SHOULD trigger the Félix cutscene.  If not, do Dorian's Request on the war table and it should open up One Less Venatori.  Talk to him and hopefully that will trigger the cutscene.  I remember on one play through I had to gain two greatly approvals before it would trigger, but on the play through after that it triggered with only one "slightly approves".

Tried the first part and it didn't work...gonna do One Less Venatori now. If this fails I guess I'll have to go back even farther and side with the mages again? ughhhhhh

It WORKED!!!

After siding with the mages and recruiting Dorian, I did not talk to him until Skyhold. I had the "Tevinter really did break the world" conversation and I asked him about Alexius. Then I went and judged Alexius and sentenced him to research. After that, when I talked to Dorian again and we chatted about the sentence.  I hopped out to Val Royeaux and back and went to talk to him again and FINALLY got the "Letter from Felix" conversation and right after that the exclamation point appeared in the main hall.

Giselle was waiting with my precious quest!

It worked! Thank you posters!

I had absolutely no problems finishing Dorian's non-romanced personal quest chain on my first playthrough, so I had absolutely no idea that there might be something wrong with it.

Now on my second playthrough it seems that I'm completely screwed sideways with this bug.  I have high approval with him, completed his war table missions, and I constantly keep trying to talk to him, but it seems that all my options are exhausted and the quest refuses to trigger.

Main differences between the two playthroughs:

- First playthrough I sided with the mages and gave them freedom.  Second playthrough I sided with the mages but conscripted them.  Dorian approves of the former, and expresses slight disapproval with the latter.

- First playthrough I did not talk to Dorian at Haven at all (I had somehow managed to overlook him before "In Your Heart Shall Burn").  Second playthrough I chatted with him at Haven until I exhausted all of his dialogue.

- First playthrough I executed Alexius.  I did not talk to Dorian about Alexius until after the sentencing.  Second playthrough I conscripted Alexius, making him an agent, but again, I did not talk to Dorian until after I made this decision.  For the former, Dorian expressed his displeasure over my decision, garnering a little disapproval, but then we moved on and talked about Felix.  The latter, on the other hand, had Dorian praise my decision with a good bit of approval, but the option to talk about Felix was nowhere to be found.

Sadly, I'm way too far in now with my second playthrough to go back to a previous save and try to "fix" this problem.  *sigh*  Either it's a horrible bug that needs patching ASAP or it's the most terribly implemented "intended consequence" ever.  It freaking SUCKS because Dorian's personal quest is the best in the series and really hits home for me, and it kills me that I'm locked out of it on a playthrough.

Once you get Skyhold DO NOT talk to Varric about his friend on the battlements. Doing this too soon kills Dorain's personal quest as well as killing a sequence with Cole in the court yard and Dorain never walks past when talking to Cassandra about her book.

In short talking to Varric too soon mucks up quite a bit of stuff and this is the stuff that I've discovered through experience.

There's probably something to this.

Now that I think of it, on my first playthrough I did not resolve "Varric's friend" right away due to the voice change bug.  I did a lot of other stuff, including Dorian's personal quest, while waiting for the patch.

On my second playthrough I immediately went to the battlements and talked to Varric about his friend.

How ironic that one terrible bug saved me from another.  >_>

Yes. I specifically sided with the mages because the whole Alexius thing is significant to him. And you know... all that time in the future with Dorian.

Aha, it could be then that Dorian's personal quest is bugged somehow if you side with the mages.

I don't think that's it. I had it by freeing Mages and I think even before I completed his Venatori quest. Maybe my approval was high enough?

The most recent theory that my friend and I have about the origin of Dorian's quest being bugged is time-skipping cutscenes with other companions or advisors.

In my first playthrough, I was unable to get Dorian's personal quest at all and after logging 100+ hours of gameplay I had to give up and accept that I would just have to do it on subsequent playthroughs. I'm only about 20 hours into my second playthrough and I've already gotten his personal quest and according to my friend Ryu, we've both had common things in our multiple playthroughs.

We're unable to get Dorian's personal quest to trigger if we speak to Varric or Solas BEFORE speaking to Dorian immediately after arriving at Skyhold, because talking to either of them causes a time skip forward. When you speak to either of them before speaking to Dorian, the main hall gets cleaned up after the dialogue, whereas speaking to Dorian and getting his "archdemons like to crush things" cutscene results in no change in Skyhold's appearance.

On my second playthrough I spoke to Dorian immediately after arriving at Skyhold and he had that first cutscene where he's perusing books, and then I talked to him again and he got the letter from Felix and right after that Mother Giselle was waiting in the main hall.

It's not 100% certain but that's the most recent theory we've come up with.

I did this too, although unintentionally. I wanted to level up and was obsessed with my specialization so I did not touch Varric until well after things were underway with Dorian.  This is definitely different from my last play through as well.

I sided with the mages and had no issue. Siding with the templars this time, I'll see how it goes.

None of these solutions are the problem with the Dorian glitch for me. I'm on my third playthrough of the game and this is my first time encountering the glitch. I think it's specifically triggered only if you romance Dorian. Even though I played as a female in my first two playthroughs and didn't flirt with him I did everything we are supposedly not to do. I talked with him at Haven, I talked to Solas/Varric before Dorian and I sided with both Templars and mages in each playthrough and no problem. It was only when I started to flirt with him as a male human that I encountered this glitch. No talk about Felix, no Giselle in the hallway, nothing. This is frustrating.

Ok so i indeed restarted my game and ignored him until skyhold where i exhausted conversafion options, asked about alexius THEN judged him (made him serve the mages), left skyhold and came back, triggered the conversation about felix and was able to get the quest from mother giselle. Everythjng ran smoothly and quickly from there

yeah, SilverWolf104 there is no way I am restarting my game. I had to restart the game once before because my first play through kept glitching and crashing.

For this Dorian bug I have a case open that is being "escalated" to the development team according to customer service, and a friend's friend who works for Bioware is putting a word in internally that people are getting PO'd about this issue. So far I have been waiting since Dec 19th or so..

I've been told the dev team that works on patches is out until Jan 5th, so it'll be a bit of a wait but I'm not wasting 50+ hours of play time, so I will wait.

I've only gotten his personal quest in one of my playthroughs and concluded you had to flirt with him to get it. This was on a templar game, and my other games have been siding with the mages, so that could be it too.

Heh I only managed to get his personal quest when I didn't flirt with him beforehand. The one game I did I never got it to trigger.

Didn't flirt with him and I got it. I think you have to avoid flirting then it should trigger.
