Hey there,

when I just sold my Valuables I wondered why one of my quest popped up and told me, that I had no more items of one of the necessary quest items. But I knew that I had looted at least one. So I checked the sold items and there it was. I bought it back and checked it.

The "Fereldan Medallion of Service", what is needed for the quest "Artifact Requisition in the Mire", is markes as Valuables and cannot moved into another section, so it will always be sold when I trash sell.

So, how many quest items did I accidentially sell already?

Please, either make a quest item section or don't mark these items as Valuables. Thanks.

See, I wanted to keep the medal but ran out of room and sold it. I had no idea it was needed for a quest. They need to fix this problem. Any quest items should not be lumped into the valuable category esp when there is no way to know some things are quest items.

Yeah this is a really annoying bug I hate how I can never just return to Skyhold and sell my stuff, I always have to turn in all those creature remains to the Elven mage before selling anything and sometimes accidently triggering an event in Skyhold/Haven when all I want to do is sell my crap so I can get back to exploring

I just went back into the game and saw that I'm still hanging onto my Fereldan. I was hanging onto it for my love of Alistair (king to my queen in Origins)  but I'm glad I have it now, if it's a quest item.

Thanks for the information. And I always wondered why I never had something to turn in. Now I understand

It's not a bug its a bad design decision

Oh yeah, your comment hits the nail on the head. I only just realized that something was up yesterday, and wouldn't you know it two minutes after logging into the forum I found this thread and confirmed my suspicions. I've apparently sold off a number of quest items that NEVER - NEVER - NEVER should have been categorized as the equivalent of "junk?" I know that certain items have a different outline pattern around them, but frankly there was nothing else to suggest that they just might be important down the road. The game does tell you that an item is a creature research item? I'm almost thirty hours in and shudder to think about what I've already dumped erroneously, pretty much because Bioware opted not to actually identify a potentially important item for an unactivated quest appearing later on; nor did they provide us with a storage chest specifically for this purpose. Traditionally that's where I've piled stuff up - just in case it is needed at some point.

And you know, after all is said and done, it occurs to me that this dumb bug is less of a bad design decision and more of a slap in the face!

Usually there's a tooltip telling you it's a quest/research item, but it's still a bad design, seriously the people in charge of the UI should be fired and banned for life from game developpement.

Just ignore the requisitions anyway. All they're good for is power and you get WAY more than enough power elsewhere.

I would not call it a bad design decision: they are crafting materials therefore they should just be put in that list, like the other things that you use to complete the Requisition quests.

Another matter is the choice of putting the Research items in the Valuables: that one is a design decision, and a very bad one I would say. There is a thread somewhere in this forum were someone suggested to create a separate list for them in a future patch.

At any rate, to anyone who should have sold them by mistake: remember that both items are dropped often from the undead that respawn endlessy everytime you step into the water. I had still many of them in my inventory after I fullfilled the request, like 4 or 5 fereldan medallions and a couple of fereldan tomes. This does not solve the problem per se obviously, and they should fix it, but at least you know that you will be able to complete the quest anytime.

If it were only those items. There are many more items and we would never know if we don't have the quests already.

Fun fact: There's one such requisition quest in the Hinterlands that requires items only dropped by Templar mobs.

Except that once you've taken out the Templar stronghold (which you'll probably do as soon as you've got the levels to do it because the rapid Templar spawns are hugely annoying) there are no more Templars. Ever.

So after unlocking Skyhold, imagine my surprise when I got a quest that is inherently impossible to complete.

Can you tell us the name of the quest, please.

That would be "Hinterlands Tapestry Requisition". It requires Velveteen (which can be bought even after mobs stop dropping it) and Decorative Gems (which only drop from Templars that vanish forever once you take out their base).

Thanks.

At least you can see which items are necessary for research, so you can easily buy those back, but the quest items for the requisition quests are not marked at all.

It would help if the "Buy back" history wouldn't be deleted from a merchant when you travel. I just sold all my stuff and then started the "Artifact Requisition in the Wastes" for what you need Dwarven Vase, Dwarven Plate, Dwarven Dragon Statuette and Dwarven Toy Soldier. I had sold these things to the merchant at Skyhold. When I immediately returned the Byr back section was empty :(

I remember that if you sold things to Bodahn in your camp you could buy it back later in the game if necessary.

There's another quest like this in the Hissing Wastes: Artifact requisition in the wastes

You need to keep track of:

1x Dwarven Toy Soldier

1x Dwarven Dragon Statuette

1x Dwarven Vase

1x Dwarven Plate

... unfortunately I already sold two of them before... but don't let this happen to you guys...
