My first character got only 8/9 Pure spirit essences total, 1 short then crafting a superb spirit rune. That characters total play time is 105 hours which includes all fade rifts closed, all shards found, all astriums completed, about 95% of zone's completed, some collections not completed like mosaics etc.

With such complete thorough play I wasn't able to craft single superb spirit rune for my mage. I don't know why superb spirit rune needs 9 pure essences while all other superb runes only need 6. To make things worse, mages can only use spirit runes, I want my party to run with full max gear and only my mage was using master runes, I was able to craft fire/frost/lightning runes easily.

 

Now 2nd character, I am playing mage this time, 44 hours so far in the game. My party consists of Mage Inquisitor/Cassandra/Sera/Iron Bull. Bull is using Superb Frost rune, Sera got Superb Fire rune and Cassandra has Superb lightning rune. Again I haven't been able to craft a single superb spirit rune for myself, I have only 4 pure spirit essences and I have completed Emprise/Hissing wastes/Emerald Graves which are the only areas I think can give pure essences. Also I have already opened all 3 rooms of spirit chamber in Solasan temple, This playthrough I got enough Pure essences to craft 2 Superb fire runes, 1 superb frost rune and 1 superb lightning rune, no luck with spirit again.

 

So has anyone been able to craft Superb Spirit rune so far?

If we could mod I'm sure someone would have established a vendor to sell all the obscure mats that we can't farm (since I believe those come from closing the actual rifts themselves and looting that).

 

In the meantime we'll sadly have to wait for a patch... or a DLC...

I'm unsure if it's possible without cheating / breaking the game in some way.

Some crafting materials are very rare.

Intense fire essences are easily farmable though I agree pure essences usually only drop from fade rifts closed in higher level areas like hissing wastes and emprise du lion.

Yes, making the highest level elemental runes can be very frustrating.  Superb Dragon runes, on the other hand, I could craft a ton of, since I had so many wyvern hearts.  I thought that was a bit odd.

There's already a cheat to max out the items you have.

Only place I can think of to get multiple pure essences would be from the loot coffin behind the last spirit door in the forbidden oasis.  Just loot the pure essence, leaving at least one item in the coffin, leave the zone, come back in.  Shame that I already looted the thing in my current playthrough, and am stuck at 7 pure spirit essences.  They need to give us some sort of gauntlet thing to get more high level loot, so we don't have to resort to exploiting to make cool things.

TBH last time I've heard that term in a game was while playing ogame and travian.

The best way to farm essences of all types is through a the rift drops. All rifts always drop at least one ring type and an eccense of some sort. The trick is to only take the essences and leave the other item. Any time you come back to the map later, the rift loot will still be there, but have refilled with the same essence, which is, well time consuming, a good way to get lots of all lower and higher level essences.
