If it didn't happen in my game it didn't happen in my in game universe.

I guess it doesn't matter anyway, since your universe in-game is basically the perspective of the PC, who had no way of knowing that she did that. I guess you can always metagame your hatred.

Isabella.

She's far from perfect, but she's honest about what she is and what she wants. Despite this, there's plenty of room for likability as seen in her relationship with Merrill and Aveline for instance and how she'll put herself at risk to return to the Qunari Tome that she stole if Hawke bonds with her strongly enough.

I do like Sera and she's a breath of fresh air in a sense. But based on her apparent psychological instability, blatant and uncalled-for disregard/disrespect for her people and their culture, and how some actions cast her as a hypocrite...I wouldn't trust her to guard my back.

Which is funny because its Isabelle who lies to you and ditches you, while Sera does nothing of those things. Also, the Dalish aren't "her people" no matter how many times people claim race = culture.  It doesn't.

You should be all right. Unless your an elf. And assume because she has pointy ears she speaks your language. Or when you find out that she doesn't speak it or know the history you start talking down to her. Or your a Mage. Or a noble. Or you kicked a red Jenny. Or you think the maker is real. Or you talked to a demon. Or your male. Or she has an extra arrow she doesn't know what to do with.

If you can avoid those simple things it is perfectly safe to have Sera at your back. A couple can be forgiven if you are Qunari. I mean... Woof!

Isabela for sure. Don't think Sera would be able to troll Aveline quiet as effectively.

On the other hand, Isabela doesn't make fun of you after you get your heart broken or call you stupid over and over for believing different things than she does (and I might add, being 100% correct about those things).  Isabela also grows and tries to make up for her mistakes.  Sera keeps making fart noises at anything she doesn't understand, which is almost everything.

Isabella also comes back.

What about city elves? What about common courtesy for your people's culture even if its something that you don't believe? How about that time where she condemns some of the "little people" that she supposedly protects in order to get at one noble?

Isabela easily.

Sera was kicked out of the Inquisition shortly after she called my Qunari dumb.

Isabela without doubt. Sera is like a petulant child, ignorant of so much and always throwing hissy fits plus putting fingers in her ears and trying to drown out the things in the world she does not understand or when something/someone does or says something she does not agree with. Sera is as much a petulant child as Vivianne is a ******, arrogant, pompous and afraid of becoming irrelevant. I dislike both Sera and Vivianne equally but for different reasons.

Sera is much funnier as Isabela's humor is just sexual innuendo, which gets old.

However, from what I've seen (ie, not Sera's romance) Isabela has a far more compelling arc during the game.

Sexual innuendo can and does get old. So do fart jokes. Both are juvenile.

From what I've seen Isabella had more character growth than Sera does. If Isabella is a good enough friend (she doesn't have to be romanced) she will come back with the tome after having a case of the guilts. She even grows into a friendship with Aveline. A relationship that spent two chapters being highly antagonistic. Isabella also shows a surprising amount of compassion. The way she treats Merrill for instance, taking very much a big sister role with her. I haven't seen quite enough of Sera yet, but i highly doubt she'd develop that kind of relationship with someone.

That said, having heard most of her party banter (got bored, listened to some videos), I don't HATE her. I just find the trope she's built upon to be old and tired.

I don't like Isabella because when I developed a relationship with her, she slept around without telling me a thing and had the audacity to petition Zevran for sex right in front of me.

If you're going to be polyamorous, tell me first so I can stay away. I don't want whatever Anders is curing you of at his clinic.

Sera, on the other hand, isn't sexual at all, but is simply crazy. It's great! She can be a little over-the top occasionally, but it's mostly good.

Sera's character is sexual; she just has to be coaxed by the appropriate character. Sera's responses to a qunari female are noticeably warmer.

You actually need to work for her loyalty. You can't just ignore her and assume she will come to your rescue when the time comes just because you allowed her to tag along.

I like the element of consequences involved with her character. The entire city depends on wether you managed to be her friend or not.lol, and even if you betray her to the qunari she escapes anyway(which means you probably want to watch you back).

Isabela by a mile. She was arguably the one who went through the most character development in DA2, actually.

It's kind of interesting that Varric, who I guess is kind of a fan favorite, does not seem to progress at all.

While I understand your point I never once imagined Isabella would ever be any other way, and she's my romance option in most DA2 games.

I don't hate Sera nor do I really like her. At times she's fun and at times she's annoying.

Sera. Isabela was fun and all but saying that her character had depth and/or progressions is silly. Seriously, even in Inquisition she's still out there whoring left and right.

Sera is utterly insane and I honestly find it refreshing to have a character like that in the game. Not every character has to be super likeable and sweet on the inside once you get to know them, which is something a lot of prior BW games have "suffered from". Give me more insane people.

I just watched that scene, the Inquisitor doesn't mention anything about having her heart broken or Solas leaving her. She just says that it turned out her Dałish markings were slave brands, which strikes Sera as hilarious because she's had "elfie elves" looking down on her for not being all broken up about a lost grand history that has no relevance to her her entire life. To expect her to be telepathically aware of what Solas did and adopt a special sensitivity is a bit silly.

She isn't the same person at the end of the game, as she is at the beginning. He even returns to Hawke after having run off with that book. No way she would have done that in Chapter 1 of the game.
