From the Hawke romancing Anders (alive) conversation, I got the feeling that he was teetering on the brink of insanity and couldn't be taken anywhere. I'm doing my "things I only did once" play through. Loghain as the Warden, Anders is Alive, Alistair's a drunk, etc. etc. I thought she sounded weary and beaten. She loves him, but he's slipping further and further away....

My female snarkyHawke romaced Merril as well and...ehh...i could see Hawke not wanting to drag Merril in to yet another unholy drekstorm. Though i would have thought that the prospect of going back to her would have been pretty high on Hawkes list of priorities and cheered her up a little ( I do believe(hope) that the relationship is still alive <.<).Because this image came to my mind everytime i talked to Hawke, especially remembering how she was in DA2:

(varric and cass banter)
Half way through is the banter about love interests
Thank goodness for Youtube or I'd never hear any banter. ![]()
Also, I think Varric and Cass are falling for each other. ![]()

Hawke/Isobella I can see. They're both a bit flaky (possibly, depending how you play).
I hate hate hate the stuff with Fenris. It doesn't make sense and mage/warrior is such an awesome combo.

I've been with my IRL partner 10 years and can't imagine ever coming to the arrangement that Hawke has with their LI who they've known for 10ish years, no ****** way lol

My FemHawke romanced Fenris, and I got a good chuckle from Varric's banter. Guess Fenris is still as broody as ever
I am with most ppl here, though. It was a weak excuse for leaving Fenris behind, especially after the final dialogue in DAII: "Whatever future there might be, I'll gladly share it with you."
Meh. Headcanon ![]()

I kept having a feeling that Cass still had a crush on Hawke the way she was asking Varric questions about him.

Hawke separated from their LI to snoop around the Wardens with Stroud for awhile. The writers didn't care to elaborate on Hawke's plot to include the romance options, and thus "reasons" were born AKA Hawke had a sudden and random need to protect them and would not let Fenris/Isabela/Anders/Merrill/Sebastian tag along. The only LI this makes any sort of narrative sense for is Anders and maybe Sebastian (he's allegedly attempting to re-establish himself in Starkhaven), but the rest I just see as being shelved for plot necessity. I'm not mad at it, and I don't view it as a break-up - just a separation.
Hawke even tells Varric to write everyone that she was heading to Weisshaupt, and Varric specifically says (for my PC) "Fenris needs to know". In my mind, a Hawke 1) not wanting to be found, or 2) no longer in a relationship, would not make sure word gets to their LI regarding their intended destination. The implication is that Hawke intends for them to meet them there, at least thats how I take it.

I could accept my Hawke being terrified of Fenris getting himself killed. Hell my heart skipped a beat in the Fade when the Nightmare said to him "Fenris is going to die, just like the rest of your family". But from the sounds of things Varric writes a letter to tell Fenris where Hawke is going (we actually taught him to read I hope!?) so I can just fantasize like a big stupid fangirl about their inevitable tumultuous reconciliation where Hawke gets a deserved talking to about not making decisions for Fenris.
Now that I think about it, new headcanon: Don't want someone with lyrium in their skin around red lyrium considering what we find out about it...

I think the Hawke/Merrill relationship is by the far neediest one of the game. With Fenris you have to needle some compassion out of him, and Isabela's a storm that won't be tethered.
If Bioware choses to revisit Kirkwall (which it should - *hint, hint*) in a future game I'd like to see Hawke, or whomever the main character will be follow up on the romances.

Anders, and Isabela both have legitimate reasons to be seperated from Hawke. Anders is the currently the most wanted man in Thedas and is quickly slipping further and further into insanity because of Justice, and Isabela is a free spirit who hates nothing more than being tied down, she loves Hawke but she doesn't want to play wifey.
Merrill and Fenris pretty much get handwaved, there's really no reason they'd be seperated from a romanced Hawke, only that as Hawke say "They'd die to protect Him/Her" which if true why didn't they seperate years ago, instead of going on all those dangerous adventures?
