I am playing a Qunari warrior that doesn't like magic or mages, but I am worried there will be no benefits to refusing to allow Vivienne into my group. I am torn between role-playing my character and missing out on a significant character and related content.
Can you guys help me decide? If there's no gameplay advantage to refusing, I will just accept her, but I'd really hate to be punished for staying in character.
If I refuse to accept a party member into my group...

You already have Solas though so doesn't that kind of break the rule already?

Gameplay wise Knight Enchanter is disgustingly strong so Vivienne can become unstopable if built right.

Well, I had no choice but to accept him. Now I have a choice, so...

I am going to at least try to play without a mage, though that seems pretty difficult thus far. Has anybody rejected her? I really want to believe there's some kind of benefit.

No, there's no benefit to rejecting companions.

You're losing one of the most Op companions in the game because of her spec(the other being Sera and loltempest)

WHy would rejecting a competent leader of a faction of mages who have not gotten into any big messes give you a benefit?

Why would there be benefits to not recruiting someone? And Vivienne is crazy powerful, she's got a permanent spot on my dragon slaying team.

Vivie just laughs at high dragons.

And the dragons run away in fear!

I wonder if not taking Vivienne removes her as contender for the Divine?

Just like in DAO and DA2 you don't get any benefits or punishments for not recruiting a character, aside from not being able to use them and seeing their content. I don't see why you want a benefit for your roleplaying decision - it seems to me it should be enough to know you don't get punished for it.
And seeing that people solo'd the game with an archer for example, playing without mages is possible, just hard.

But you're not playing a Qunari you're playing Tal-Vashoth or how ever it's spelt.

It's good to have at least one mage because they have a special ability to rebuild structures, like rogues can pick hard locks and warriors can bash walls. If you reject Vivienne there's probably no punishment story wise, but combat wise I'd be missing dem barriers.

And veil fire/runes. Pretty important for the hissing wastes if I recall correctly. My thinking is- you get Solas no matter what. You may as well recruit Vivienne- she is the most op Mage in the group and she has the strictest views on magic. There's no "punishment" per say except to yourself for not having the option of bringing her along.

Do you also miss out on that enchanter agent in the Hinterlands ? Never been able to recruit her without Viv in the party. Never tried to recruit her with Solas in the party, mind you.

If you're referring to the one that cared for the Templar, there are alternative ways.
(THough you could be referring to someone I just don't remember haha)

If you mean the mage who had a Templar beau, I recruited her without Viv. I did have Solas in the party, though, so I may have had him speak up on the matter.

I believe you need the "arcane knowledge" inquisition perk. I convinced her to become an agent while being the only mage in the party...

You can safely reject any optional companion. The only thing you may need to do is extra sidequests to miss out on the power/xp/influence you get from those companion quests you are missing out on.

That would have to Be her knight enchanter skill tree. Makes her become a Tank Cannon.
