Dodge inferior to what mages get

Demon commanders.  They'll wreck you unless you learn to avoid their underground attack.

With a mage it's simple stuff: fade step or cloak out of it.  For a rogue, or warrior, not so easy.

Using dodge to avoid the attack works only SOME of the time where an equally timed fade cloak/step would have worked just fine.  If you are already moving when you dodge you'll find much more success.  But you can'd do crap if you're moving.

Put dodge on par with fade cloak/step - at least when it comes to avoiding demon commanders wrecking you.   Heck, if it weren't for demon commanders, dodge wouldn't even be on my bar - so make it work as well as what mages get to avoid this kind of stuff.

I am getting a wee bit better at avoiding the commander but they still get me with any class because invariably semi bosses or lower levels penetrate the hold room and while you are dealing with them the commander flattens you.  Or the panic circle gets you.

When I can reliably run and jump out of his instakill move, then you can escape it with an evade move. The only reason why he still gets you is bad reflexes. Whenever I have waited too long after seeing his tell, he'd wreck me right out of Fade Step.

Sorry I'll call BS.  If you are dps'ing - meaning standing still - while the demon commander lurks, then you CANNOT avoid its aoe attack by simply moving after seeing black smoke rise around you.  If, however, you start running as soon as the demon commander goes underground, then yes you can avoid the commander's damage - but the adds will pile up if everyone is doing this.

Either way. demon commanders are no problem for mages to avoid because their escape reliably takes them out of harms way - not so for those relying upon dodge to escape.

Yes you can.

To me, IMO, and how I personally play the game.  I cannot justify bringing an ability just to dodge 1 attack on an absurd and broken boss IF demons happen to be the enemy.

I will bring payback strike on a warrior a lot of time though (on the rare occasion I happen to be playing one...gotta get those constitution pts).  It works like a charm vs terror/panic and lets you blast him on the way down.

Im not convinced you "outran" the attack.

Ive been testing the demon commander's 1-hit.  As long as you are airborne when he strikes he will, at most, push you away and deal 0 damage.  Doesnt matter if you are at the edge of the circle or in the center, it will do 0 damage if you are airborne.

Yes, you avoided the attack by abusing a (likely broken, and hopefully soon to be patched) mechanic, but you have yet to show dodging his attack without this glitch or Fade step/cloak (which work amazingly, but are only limited to mages).

You can (truly) outrun him on host, either from a sprint, using a dodging type move, or standstill (assuming nothing impedes your movement, such as teammates, enemies, weirdly shaped environmental pieces).  If going from a standstill however, you need to be ready to move, not stuck in a long animation.

To (truly) outrun him off-host you need to be sprinting from the start or dodging, fulfill the nothing impeding your movement rule as listed above, and pray that the connection gods allow it.

Alternatively if mage, as stated above, fade step/cloak work wonderfully.

Currently the jump dodge (broken) mechanic is your best bet if not a mage, as it requires the least amount of time (jumping to be airborme vs. running out of a circle).

Hard to dodge when off host as the weird collision thing happens frequently. If I play melee off host I'm just screwed. My character is do glitchy they don't move properly at all. On host avoiding DC is easy. Either by running or jumping. I do both.

the melee kits need a lot of changes to make them more mobile especially the tanky kits.
They need to all have some sort of reliable gap closer that would work at the same distance mages and archers can target
Or at least some sort of ranged ability that they can use to pull agro at range

think of how WoW tanking accomplishes this:
warriors and druids have charge and a single target ranged agro pull
deathknights have deathgrip and a few ranged abilities
paladins have their shield throwing ability and judgments

there's just too little thought put into how tanks are supposed to agro ranged mobs, and this needs to be fixed asap

Depending on the host it is even harder to dodge.  Most likely the video is the host.

I agree there are some issues with some of the movement abilities and I have them in my list of things to investigate. Ability slots are precious and when a movement ability has poor prediction or pops back to the point at which the ability was activated its not very useful. At the very least the passive upgrade to the warrior dodge roll removes status effects which is quite nice.

Regarding the Booty Demon - Ya'll gotta run! As soon as he goes under just start sprinting, he won't hit you. I've been playing the game for two years, this is a pro tip ; ) The thing that can get you is that he and the Nightmares apply a debuff that slows you so if you have this debuff on while trying to sprint away you're gonna have a bad time.

I've been seeing the comment a lot that you can't escape the demon and I think maybe some people are unaware of the sprint button. Left shift on PC, left stick click on controller. Sprint! It'll save your bacon!

Is being able to simply jump to dodge his attack working as intended?

No sir/ma'am! Though it would make Kriss Kross pretty proud I reckon.

The thing is the archer and hunter have the ability to move while shooting and there's a passive that makes it faster.  Sprinting after melee seems delay, that and you probably will get attacked from the enemies you were attacking.

The evade ability seems too be useless.  The decoy barely lasts 1.5-2 seconds.  When you evade you will still get hit by the pop up damage.  That makes the ability useless.  The archer has no cc removable because of this, while the other rogues have stealh.

Casters have fade cloak which costs one point and breaks cc.  While other classes have to spend 2 points for cc removal.

Roll barely goes that far so 2 hander enemies can still hit you.

Jump evading seems to be in the programing and probably avoids the lag  If you are in a laggy game bunny hopping gets you through the map faster.  For some reason all the players other than the host move really slow except when you jump.

I have ran out of the range when i see the smoke countless times off host and on host.

and why not just block it playing the templar or legionnaire that's how i kill him. I literally turn around and block the demon commanders pop up.

He still can oneshot you - I believe you need the "cannot be flanked" ability in order to make it work? He likes to emerge behind the character.

Is Fadestep more useful than Evade in small doses? Yes.

But Fadestep has an 8 second cooldown. Evade can be used every 2 seconds. Fadestep NEEDS to COUNT. You can repeatedly evade smaller barrages of attacks.

Fadestep is for putting/ closing distance between you and the enemy. Evade is for combat dodging. Two completely different functions. Comparing them is like comparing walking to cooking supper. There's nothing to really compare except "Oh, you're doing a thing."

As for the Demon Commander? I've never taken 0 damage just from jumping. I've heard about that and died trying it. As the host. But sprinting away and jumping right before it comes up helps for dodging. And if you can't handle fighting the small fry as you kite it around, then you're free to try to bunker down in the entry doorway with the rest of them and get slaughtered by it's AOE.

If you're moving when you get the smoke turn around and block, with luck you'll be facing the centre of the effect and get lots of guard.

Are you seriously suggesting that jumping is abusing a mechanic? Are you high? What a ridiculous statement to make. Running and jumping covers more ground than just simply running.

I have the most issues with the rogue's evade skill.  I'm on a 150/50 connection and ping under 10ms local, under 40ms to anywhere in NA and under 150 ms to the other side of the world, yet using evade as non-host almost always places me back at or near the spot it was used from.  Not good, not good at all.

In everything you have shown you have been in the air when the DC attacks.  Once again, you are immune to his attack while airborne.

You clearly are abusing this shortcoming of his, as you only ever make 1 jump when you are targeted.  Your not bunny hopping your way to safety, your just jumping to avoid the attack.

I cant belive you're actually claiming that timing a jump to get a very small speed boost in order to completely avoid his attack is abusing a mechanic, and therefore cheating. Youre either trying to make excuses for your own shortcomings as a player or you're just not very smart.

If you look in my videos, the DC isnt anywhere near me. The run and jump is the reason he isnt near me. I dont get touched by him, so therefore i cannot be abusing any kind of invincibility frames.

I'm confused. What's broken about running and then jumping out of the way?
