Yes, that's exactly what Bioware has said on the matter. L2R. Jumping is not supposed to work, you are supposed to have to legit escape, which is largely impossible for not-mages. Even the video demonstration where the guy got away, he was already moving when it came at him, defeating the poster's entire point that you don't have to already be moving to survive.

Jumping to give yourself invincibility frames is what was confirmed to be a glitch. Not jumping while running. Thats why it specifically said 'jumping' and not 'jumping while running to evade'.

While we are on the topic of L2R, here is a comment I posted earlier of a legionnaire standing completely still until the smoke appears, then he runs, jumps and evades it.

I'd love them to change the bonus on Evade to be a short term stealth with 1-2 sec immunity.

This would fix the problem and actually make the skill worth investing in.

Atm my Sin doesn't touch it, far easier to just use Flank attack to Dash out of the way.

You can perfectly dodge the DC teleport attack with evade and even combat roll on reaction. And, if you are not unusually laggy, you can run and jump as soon as you see the smoke over you (as penguin showed in that video).

Seriously, after I learned that it was a telegraphed attack, that pesky demon is not so scary anymore. Now if only my PUG teammates realized it too.

I beg to differ.  Even when hosting you will usually not have enough time to sprint away from a dead stop.

100% agreed. The sheer number of "omg I don't want to stop attacking to evade, I'm too mentlaly deficient to end my auto combo after 2 hits, baaaaw, why can only mages evade" is enough to make me completely swear off my humanity to not be associated with it anymore. Granted, I'm experiencing side effects from new medication, so I'm likely overreacting, but you see my point.

This. I played with a lvl 1 AW against demons today and on stage 5 I led the DC on a merry goose chase while my pug teammates cleaned up the adds. The only thing that's arguably more difficult for melee characters is keeping aggro on him without getting into melee range. Other than that it's just running when he goes underground and then jumping right before he pops up again. Unless I'm slowed, this always gets me out of his range. No evade move needed.

So if you don't have a taunt, you let one of your ranged teammates play with him while you clean up.

What about standing on the healing fountain? You just get thrown off it without taking any damage.

Does that actually work?  Because the only time I ever tried that, I got one-shotted, and my teammates started insulting me for being to stupid to get out of the way...

I tried it twice and it worked both times so far.

Either play the game or leave it.

And do it however you like. Jumpe like F. crazy for all I care.

This is the most pointless thread I ever saw.

I will F-ing use the spacebar exploit to get out of here now and avoid any more replies.

Ridiculous. And no moderation it seems.

ummm, i'm confused... so is this summary about right?

no damage, no knockdown (assuming no lag etc)

- running out of attack zone

- ability with invulnerability (Fade Step, Fade Cloak, ???)

no damage, knockdown (assuming no lag etc)

- standing on fountain / elevated object

- jumping within attack zone (using i-frames, and confirmed glitch as per BWEAmelia)

damage and/or knockdown (with lag etc)

- running out of attack zone (damage calculated pre exiting)

- ability with invulnerability (damage calculated pre or post cast)

- jumping within attack zone (damage calculated pre or post i-frame glitch)

So standing on the fountain is basically the best thing to do?

Man, that fountain will be pretty crowded soon. Better be solid elven work, when all the fat dwarfs start jumping on it...

You can, with some effort, climb the golden lions/griffins near the stairs before the healig font. Pretty much safest place against any and all melee mobs. Attack animations can cause you to fall if not carefull. Archers obviously too. Not sure if the lions are only in the villa map or every map though.

Ive tried multiple things, running as soon as the commander goes underground, jumping, standing on something, etc. Nothing seems to work to avoid his ohk out of the ground other than having a barrier already up. I know people keep saying to run and they avoid it easily but after playing a hundred games its never worked once for me. I can avoid everything else no problem. The earth smash or the leap from the templar commander but that get out of the ground move by the demon commander is just stupid. There is not enough time before the tell happens until he gets out of the ground. You cant block it either. They need to give you more time to move especiallly since often you will be slowed down or possibly in a striking or casting animation.

If you want the hit. Well, I was often sprinting right after DC went underground and STILL managed to get 1-hit-killed, as If he was attacking area I was going to be - or so I thought.

When I started to actually run in circle, I managed to avoid him most of the times.

But hey, it's a game. If one thing doesn't work, you have to try the next one :P

Considering me and the people i play with manage to avoid him 90% of the time, I think its your gameplay thats the problem, not the game. Practice more, watch videos of people doing it and learn. Don't just give up and complain to BSN about how the DC needs nerfing because you can't figure out how to counter him.

Dont need to avoid him! If u're a mage just use shield barrier, avoiding is for the weaks, our attack is the best defense!

I agree there are some issues with some of the movement abilities and I have them in my list of things to investigate. Ability slots are precious and when a movement ability has poor prediction or pops back to the point at which the ability was activated its not very useful. At the very least the passive upgrade to the warrior dodge roll removes status effects which is quite nice.

Regarding the Booty Demon - Ya'll gotta run! As soon as he goes under just start sprinting, he won't hit you. I've been playing the game for two years, this is a pro tip ; ) The thing that can get you is that he and the Nightmares apply a debuff that slows you so if you have this debuff on while trying to sprint away you're gonna have a bad time.

I've been seeing the comment a lot that you can't escape the demon and I think maybe some people are unaware of the sprint button. Left shift on PC, left stick click on controller. Sprint! It'll save your bacon!

You've been playing this for 2 years have you?  And for 2 years the multi-player has been in and working perfectly fine without any issues?  Like the key glitch, or how about crashing to desktop, maybe the no XP bug or how about being stuck and unable to move when you join a match?  For some reason I don't believe you. . .at all.  And the fact you think that sprinting will save you from the demon commanders insta-cap is laughable.  It does not work, but I'm guessing you super cereal believe Manbearpig is a real creature as well.  How about you try playing with us liars on the forums and not on a LAN connection to see what some of the issues are sometime?  I would be more than happy to invite you for a ride-along so you could see what we face out here IN PAYING CUSTOMER LAND.  That is all.

You know, I expected it to remove fire, but apparently the Legionnaire doesn't know how to stop, drop, and roll.

Because that's modern science. Wouldn't fit into a fantasy setting :P

And yeah, quite often you can run from demon attack, but few cases you can sprint and he will just hit you anyway. Even noticed, that few times, I changed direction and he popped out where I WOULD have been If I continued to sprint forward.

I've seen lots of **** in MP, but I am not playing untill the key-drop bug is fixed. They patched this feature in the last patch. The have to get it out.

I have a staff with immolate, this skill is most likely causing this problem (because all people blame Elementalist). Don't care, will just wait. Not sure if I'll ever boot the game up again though. Got enough after one playthrough and grinding for hours in MP.
