Alright folks, we're all looking forward to see what types of characters (Not factions: Characters) we'll get in future multiplayer DLCs. The objective of this thread is to argue against a (singular...or two) character type you would like to see. Why? I dunno, think tank?

To start us off: Mabari.

The glorious Mabari. The wonderful Mabari. The Mabari we all know and love. Mabari.

The problem with the Mabari (besides killing people with adorableness and overwhelm spam), is simply this: how does a dog pull a lever? Drink a potion (eating animation of DA:O?) or throw them? Or open a door, for that matter (yes you could in DA:O, and yes there are no door opening animations)? How does a dog plant a flag? Would they actually come up with animations for this door related dilemma? Or would these things simply..happen, while a happy mabari stands there waiting for the non-existent animation to time out?

Also: Mabaris don't exactly share class trees with any of the cardinal groups. They'd obviously be relegated into the warrior sub-group (unless we can have a mabari that shoots lightning/fire/bees from it's mouth when it barks. Arf Arf BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!), but the amount of work and planning required for a mabari to be a fully fleshed character (unlike what was done in DA:O, then in DA2, then removed entirely in DA:I! ;-; )...will they go through the hassle? :(

Not to mention weapon type (Kadis? Greatsword in the mouth?) and armor (collars? Mabari Armor? More Kadis?). How would you upgrade a mabari via equipment? Can you enchant Mabari barks/bites/farts with lightning powers? (please say yes to this, Bioware.)

Your turn to denounce a character type: go! (and try and avoid SP spoilers for those people who aren't through like myself. ;) )

Im waiting for an awakened darkspawn.  Given the collector happened in ME3 MP, I feel it will hit eventually.

Oh! DLC Point/Counter-Point!

I love debating why such characters can be made into the game.

The answer to the first point is simple. Don't.

We don't have to have every single character balanced around every other character in the game (IMO). This was one of the shortcomings of MEMP, every character had to be exactly like the other kits in terms of basic gameplay mechanics; your Krogan Warlord HAD to carry a gun into battle because every character HAD to carry a gun.

Why do we have to ensure that a Mabari character can open doors, and use potions? Why not build a unique character that has it's own gameplay mechanics instead of trying to force it to fit the mold of the other characters? Why not make a nimble, extremely hard to hit warrior-esque Mabari that has to rely on fellow teammates to open shortcut doors or provide healing via restorative mists and/or barriers?

This might be "less" of a character in certain aspects, but then again a warrior/rogue/mage can't open the other classes' respective doors; they are 'less' of a character in that regard as well.

Also: Mabaris don't exactly share class trees with any of the cardinal groups. They'd obviously be relegated into the warrior sub-group (unless we can have a mabari that shoots lightning/fire/bees from it's mouth when it barks. ***** Stupid quote getting messed up  *****

The second point is rather moot as well (IMO). BioWare already has the model, animations, rigging, and combat abilities of the Mabari already done, so its's not like they would have to create a character completely from scratch.

...Well, ME3MP got around limitations with quirky ideas.  Like some guys can't have cover, some teleport, Volus are abnormally short, one guy had multiple grenades.  Expanding on that, Mabari could be restricted from using potions and grenades, while receiving some perks, like being super fast or hard to hit or something. ... So many ideas... terrible, terrible ideas.

Anyway:  Golems

Freakishly slow walk speed.  Its bad enough people don't realize there's a sprint button, but constantly walking everywhere would drive everyone insane.

Weapons:  Runes?  No they'd have to invent new ones since there are only like three types right now.

Armor:  Runes?  No, we've been over this.

Accessories?  How does a Golem wear a ring?  Runes?  I said no.  Weren't you listening?

And finally; doorways.  Enough said.

I REALLY want to participate here, but most of what I want is really simple. Templar Archer(preferably male), Qunari Tank (preferably female) and Antivan Crowe (preferably human male dagger user) all seem likely additions.

No new classes. Only additional ability options and loosened equipment and skill tree restrictions. And let me name my damn character and make him look how I want him to look.

And none of that is going to happen.

Not sure if you played Dragon Age Origins (specifically the stone prisoner DLC), but this isn't actually as crazy an idea as you think IMO.

In the DLC that I mentioned, there was a stone golem called shale. Shale was classified as a warrior, and had access to the very basic warrior tree talents (taunt, stances all of that) but shale also had 4 very unique and specific talent lines, each talent line only had a few talents, but they were all pretty different and would make an interesting basis to expand on for an MP character IMO.The talents were as follows:

1) A close quarters damage and point blank AoE line, think 2H warrior style, but with giant stone fists

2) A pretty standard tanky, taunty warrior style with some nice passive buffs

3) A ranged focused style, based around throwing rocks and hitting stuff

4) A supporting style based around providing passive armor, and damage bonuses to the rest of the party with a type of aura

On the subject of weapons, Shale used crystals to modify it's damage, armor, and stats. There were small crystals that shale used to change attack damage type, as well as attacking stats (fire crystals gave basically standard damage increases, cold crystals gave armor penetration, etc...). Large crystals were basically armor, and gave specific elemental resistances, and again, different stats relating to the element.

Now, the issue would primarily be adding these crystals to the loot tables, thereby further decreasing the chance of getting good weapons of the type you actually like. However, if they actually implemented the golem idea with more than one character, then it would be perfectly justifiable to add a new weapon type. I mean, there are already weapon restrictions, only 2 classes can even use bows for example.

How else can I get BioWare to implement the DLC characters I want if not by constant repetition?

That only happened because many players were quite vocal with the idea. It took some time before the awakened collector became a thing. That's also how we got the Volus. I honestly don't foresee that level of support for DA:I for that amount of time.

But unlike the Awakened Collector, the Awakened Darkspawn are already a part of the established lore, we have an in-game example of an Awakened working alongside the player character (the Messenger) plus the Awakened are a biped humanoid (easy animations), and BioWare already has the Darkspawn models in the game.

Really, I would say that out of all the non-human/elf/dwarf/qunari creatures, the Awakened would be the easiest to add.
