Could never trigger Solas' romance, why?

1st of all, I want to say I'm new to the forum, and that I look forward to being a helpful part of it, so HI guys (and gals) :P...

Anyway, as the title says, I was never able to trigger a romance with Solas, I did all the right things in haven, I spoke to him often so that I wouldn't miss a single conversation with him, had a very high approval rating as well (meaning we agreed on everything, although I don't think that has to do anything with it) and, most important of all, my Elf was female. Basically, I created a she-elf for exclusively for Solas.

But the romance never triggered, as a matter of fact, I suspected something was not right after I got to skyhold and noticed that quest after quest I would get different cutscenes with every other companion; that, and I would also get quests from them (even the ones I usually never agreed with where all over me asking me favors and giving me quests), but absolutely NOTHING from Solas; this was pretty annoying because I was constantly monotering him and being extremely cautious so that I wouldn't skip a cutscene or miss a quest with him, to the point that about half way through I wasn't really enjoing the game as I was constantly trying to wrap my head around what was going on (or what wasn't for this matter); still, I reluctantly carried on with the game (albiet with a very bitter taste in my mouth) hoping that some little surprise would pop up, I even completed the quest where you defeat Samson and find the well, and nothing happened; I was so dissapointed that I just could not finish the game, this issue completely shattered any sense of immersion I had early on before I started noticing that something was wrong.

I don't know what happened, maybe it's a glitch few have reported, or maybe I just did something wrong or didn't do/ say someting I should have and it went straight over my head, all I know is that I want to give the game another shot as a fem elf with Solas by my side, but I want to be sure this won't happen again, so I ask: what should I pay attention to so that I can keep better track of what's happening with him? For example: I never got a cutscene that you're supposed to get after you come to skyhold for the 1st time where you meet him at Haven, what triggers this and why didn't I get it? Why did I never get the quest where you're suppose to help him free some spirit (while ALL of my other companions and advisers did give their respective quests)?

The game is great regardless, I just really didn't enjoy it as I should have because of this; I know, it's kind of silly, but little things like that are IMHO essential to immersion... thanks in advance :).

Did you flirt/kiss with blackwall when you got to skyhold?

If you did it locked you out of romance with Solas...... Flirt option won't appear when you are in the fade with him.

This, I luckily saved earlier and didn't get too far before realizing stupid Blackwall locked in.

Seriously.  No warning or anything, I just wanted my elf to have sexytime with Blackwall. But nooo they had to lock romances in right after getting skyhold.

Nah, I stayed away from flirting with anyone be it male or female to avoid that kind of stuff exactly, much like I did with Hawke/Fenris in DA2 (and trust me, I almost broke the ice, 1st with blackwall and later with Cullen, but I held firm... to no avail :(); I don't know, I actually hope I missed something 'cause I'm replaying the game (started last night) and already I got Solas to tell me something I don't quite remember him saying to me, although I can't be 100% certain; it was a complement about my fighting style (went rouge/daggers this time around instead of rouge/archer). Still, anything you guys can tell me about this so I can avoid it from happening again would be most welcome.

Did you kiss Solas during your shared dream?  I didn't, because I thought it was a tad forward, and never had a heart option appear with him after that point.

That said, I did flirt with some other people after that sequence, so I may have just locked myself out accidentally...

Sounds like a bug. Trust me, it's not uncommon, across all companions. If you're an elf lady, and you don't flirt with anyone else, approval barely matters before you can jump on Solas. Dorian has a similar bug for some people, Iron Bull won't trigger unless you talk to Krem, etc. I'd suggest restarting. D:
Sometimes the game recognizes gender wrong, also. Did anyone refer to you as male, maybe? Try switching back and forth between genders when you create your character to be sure it knows you're a lady. Solas has very very early flirts for lady elves, basically his first conversations. It's a good way to check if it's working. Good luck, he's totally worth it.

I didn't even get the dream :(; again, after restarting a new game last night I noticed I might have unlocked a flirt I may not have checked before, so maybe it could have been an early flirt i missed the 1st time around; it was one during our conversation about the fade and there was a "special" response saying "you obviously woke up": that opened up a short dialog that led to the flirt I mentioned in which his response was a complement; the reason this keeps coming back is because I don't remember him exactly complementing me like that in my previous game, in fact I really can't recall any romantic complement no matter how flirty I was.

OH! Did you do all the other conversation options for him? I heard some of it doesn't unlock unless you don't.

After you get to Skyhold you should have a conversation option that results in him taking you to a dream version of Haven. You have to take the flirt option in that scene and then kiss him. That begins the romance. The next scene happens after you finish his personal quest.

Still in Haven so far so no new dialog right now, I suppose some new ones will show after the redcliff quest, I'll give an update when I'm far enough.

Mmmmh, I did not flirt with anyone and now I'm in skyhold and the option "let's talk about you" doesn't appear! So I cannot start the haven-fade scene... Fun it appeared in my human rogue run and not now...

What decisions have you made? You might not have enough approval. Have you gone through the rest of his conversation options?

I did his first quest, measuring the veil, once in skyhold, talked to him of everything, flirt options picked, but now that you make me think of it, I did the templars quest instead of mages', and made them allies, and he was not THAT happy about it, like Greatly Disapproves if I remember right, sigh, are you sure it depends on his approval?

Definitely. I sided with mage allies first game, got his dream sequence immediately. Second game Templars, no dream sequence. Try taking him along to find elven wards to increase approval. As long as you don't go forward with the main quest you might stil have time.

Been having this problem myself. I'm trying an elf playthrough with Solas romance but can't even get the dream sequence to trigger. I have activated every single possible elven artefact available at my point in the game and gone through every conversation option but he still says nothing at Skyhold. I'm aware this may be due to me keeping the Grey Wardens and going Templar Ally. I was hoping to trigger the romance before the Orlais Court mission as there was romance stuff there on my first playthrough with Cass Romance.

Is there no other way to try and boost his approval, as I said I have got every artefact I can get my hands on.

I've even turned Cole into a spirit just to appease the man.

The lack of an approval meter here is unbelievably aggravating as I have absolutely no idea how close (or indeed far) I am from getting it to trigger.

I created an account just to comment on this...

(Supposing you did kiss Solas in Haven)
If you flirt with Blackwell between the conclusion of the 'All New, Faded for Her' quest and 'Do you have a moment?' Solas won't mention the kiss. At all. He'll still compliment, but instead of referencing the kiss at the end, he claims to have taken too much of the Inquisitor's time.

This thread really helped me fix my error.
(Honestly, I was on my way to see Solas when I ran into Blackwell and got carried away by the drama of the moment)

Thank goodness for auto saves.

Solas's approval is harder to manage than any other companion's, imo. He only has a limited number of mini-approval gains (unlike Blackwall and Bull, for example, where you can theoretically get infinite approval by killing people), and he has very rare Greatly Approves events.  If you go against his approval in at least two main plot points (ie. conscript mages or ally templars and pardon the Wardens), it's practically impossible to stay friends with him.  (Which makes sense from a writing/character perspective.) If even your first main quest goes against his wishes, his approval may not be enough to trigger the Haven scene at Skyhold.  If you did that, try banishing the Wardens and then talk to him again afterwards.

I have sided with Templars twice and have gotten the romance each time.  You have to keep asking him questions and getting those "slightly approves" early in the game and you also have to take that very first flirt option, but you don't have to side with the mages to have the romance.

I think the game bugged on you. I would go back and re-roll a new elf and "wiggle" back and forth between male and female before choosing female just to sure the game knows you're a girl. And keep asking him questions.

I haven't had problems with Solas. I have romanced him twice. But I always talk to him about everything as soon as possible. I don't flirt with others. If I notice that I'm getting too much disapproval then I reload the last save and choose another option. I always flirt with him if that is possible. I have always got the fade scene when I go to talk to him in Skyhold for the first time.

If I flirt with Cullen after romancing Solas, will my romance with Solas disappear?
(I haven't talked to Cullen in Skyhold yet)

After romancing Solas? So you just get to Skyhold and get the Fade scene but you haven't done his personal quest?

I'm not sure does flirting with Cullen affect his romance but I don't flirt with others just to be safe.
