With only 4 behavior tactics to change, AI control leaves out alot of battle possibilities and makes it far inferior to Dragonage Origins or Awakening.  For instance, I want to have Cassandra defend my ranged fighters but at the same time engage the enemy and distract them while I try to disrupt a breach.  But if you set her to defend them instead of follow me, those 3 will just stand there in the distance while I get massacred.  There should be an aggressive or passive behavior, and targetting behavior so they go after ranged or magic using enemies first.  And your mage should be told to focus on reviving fallen allies as a PRIORITY without having to fully deny him the ability to use offensive magic.  I have his revive ability starred, but he still on occasion prefers to cast offensive magic opposed to focusing on healing.  I feel there is no strategy in this game until you actually enter a battle, in the old game you could set up traps, magic, a killing field before you even initiate a battle and it was FAR more intuitive.  This feels way way wayyyy too watered down a battle system than its predecessors.... I am a firm believer of, if it isn't broke don't fix it

Major agreement.
Some spells and talents are near useless if you don't use them manually.
I used to be able to set up how a battle would go and what my teammates would do once in the menu and then actually enjoy the game.
Now I must actually take the time to set everything up, every minute of every fight.
It's a lesser game for not having a legit tactics menu.

What I don't like is how characters you tell to hold position teleport to you if you go too far.  For instance I have ranged fighters on a ledge with a frost mine in front of them, I engage the enemy and they mysteriously teleported right behind me and get slaughtered.  Nightmare said you need to use strategy to fight these battles but the game's battle system doesn't allow you to use strategy outside of combat.
