As the title says, for a mage, which is best??

In other words, when crafting, should I use crafting items that have more willpower or magic or both to put on my armor and/or weapons??

I could never figure out which one is better for a mage as far as damage is concerned. Also, what is the best mage schematic to get and where can it be found/purchased??

Both Magic and Willpower increase attack by the same amount. The difference is that Magic will increase the damage you do to barriers, while Willpower will increase your defense against magic. So in terms of raw damage they are equal but Magic will be more effective vs other mage's/spirits with barriers ( Despair Demons <shakes fist> ) while Willpower will make you more resilient to magic.

So just lean towards whichever one is giving you more trouble. Blowing up mages or being blown up by mages.

They're both as good as the other. Aim for total stat points, not the most of whichever. 9 will 2 mag = 9 mag 2 will, both of which are better than any combination yielding a total of less than 11 and inferior to any combination yielding more than 11. How little HP party members have compared to enemies means that the (percentage based) difference in incoming damage between mag/wil will not be enough for you to notice, or to save your life. If you died, an extra 30 points of will's mdef contribution wouldn't have saved you.

Seeing as there are very potent tools to increase barrier damage in the arsenal of both mages and warriors, like shield bash, Dispell or the KE Spirit Blade I feel that the bonus magic gives is somewhat useless.

I think willpower is the far superior stat overall.

Yes, it does kind of diminish Magic somewhat given that Mages have dispel. Although, Dispel doesn't seem to work on bigger enemies with plot armour barriers. Still, it seems like Guard is a far more annoying enemy mechanic than Barrier ever is.

Thanks for the info everyone. I have about 13 in each one, so I guess I am good to go. I also understand that when you pick certain perks in different trees, that also adds to the amount. With the perks that I have and those that I want, I will end up with about 9 more points in willpower and 12 more in magic. At least now I know what I want to look for now in terms of armor crafting and weapon crafting. I must have done something right for I just killed my first dragon at level 13  in the Hinterlands. Took me 2 tries, but I got it done. So I must be doing it right.

Thanks again everyone !!

Magic and willpower gives the same amount of damage for a mage. The difference is that magic will give you bonus damage to barrier(Which you dispel anyways...), and willpower gives you magic resistance.

Willpower is universally better than the main stats (Strength, Dexterity and Magic)
