Sorry, these armors are SETS of armor. The helmets do not remove. This is by design and not a bug.
I'm confused, if the helmets do not remove of Shepard then how the heck does he/she ever get the helmet off of himself/herself? I mean taking off the lower part of the armor isn't going to suddenly pop the helmet off. Does this mean Shepard has to sleep in this helmet? How does Shepard ever get the armor off then?
This doesn't make any sense whatsoever. If this is the offer for the pre-order armor (I praise bioware for the pre-order bonus's, they are really cool, except this design aspect), and one intends to use them, then we may as well have the terminus/inferno/collector heads in the character creator and thats your Shepard

Then I have to say it was a miscalculation on Bioware's end, unfortunately. Considering the amount of time you spend in conversation and it being "your story," not simply having the abliity to "toggle" the helmet as in ME1 is a rather strange choice, unless you thought it was a good idea to make a good deal of people not want to use any of the special pre order armor. I love the game so far, but this is the one critical observation that unfortunately I have to agree with. If you have grown attached to your Shep, not seeing his or her face for the majority of the game should you use any of that armor seems rather strange, and if I may be so bold, a poor decision for a game where there is such a huge emphasis on conversation and emotion. I cringe at the thought of seeing my Shepard's face essentially be emotionless as the story progresses. It makes Shep have all the expression of a Geth, and that cannot be a smart choice no matter how you look at it.

We know it's not a bug, just a stupid decision. The dialogue and connections between the characters is one of the most important things in Mass Effect. Seeing your main character's face is kind of a big deal in a game like this. But when we use these DLC sets of armor, we can't even see Shepard's face. Genius.
Its my second favourite feature after the one where your feet move when you walk, I wish they did that one the other way than I would have like they did with the helmets.

Ha they should have a robot that follows you around to take your helmet on and off when you want it off.

(thats the only way I can see the helmet coming off, assuming the feet of the armor are able to come off tho hehe)
Soz Bioware, Mass Effect is an awesome game, thanks for all the effort and work that you've put into make such a cool space opera sci-fi game, don't wanna make fun, but this design decision just seems a little strange.

I will only use these on the N7 missions where dialogue is not important, I will be using the customizable the rest of the time, what a waste

Maybe the pre-order armor is like a big T-Shirt that goes to your feet, where you can just slip it off from the feet up

Maybe its a giant pvc suit and the only zip is below the groin so the last bit that would come off would be your head.

Man I do feel sorry for all of you people who were gloating about your CE armors and what not. oh what's this...Mass Effect 2 at a store without any freebies? just the game? sounds good to me.
To be honest I preorded the CE because of the ugly ass box art. The freebies just sweetened the deal sadly this is a serious design flaw on a game that prides itself on facial animation.

Simply allowing you to toggle the helmet on or off as in the first would have covered it, but since they basically removed your inventory options from ME1 and everything is done via locker they clearly did not find another way to implement this with the DLC armor, and I think it was not a smart choice.

I'm assuming the design decision was something along the lines of: "This would require additional work.. Screw it, maybe they won't notice".

It is a minor issue, really, not a game breaker, but if it was there in the previous game and worked well enough, why not keep it that way? So those that want to see the head can still see it, and those that don't mind the helmet on at all times, can keep it that way too.

And it would appear as though your many fans believe that you guys dropped the ball on this one - for crying out loud, when are the developers of role playing games going to realize that the chief reason so many people play role playing games is to step into the role of another person.
We need to be able to see that person - how many RPGs have I played in which I can't even swivel the camera around and see the front of my character? You end up having to stare at you're character's backside the entire game.
Not being able to remove the character's helmet amounts to the same thing, almost.
It just shocks me that after all these years you guys continue to make the same mistakes, over and over again. It's almost like you guys don't even play RPGs yourselves? Do game designers even like games?

Well I don't think they thought it was an innovatinve or ground-breaking addition to the genre, you never know though.
