I've just arrived in Skyhold, and am searching desperately for Varric & his friend. I thought he said to meet him on the battlements, but I've searched them & am not finding him.
Where do I find Varric & his friend in Skyhold?

That's the spot (near that flag) where Varric should be. Talk to him and it starts a cutscene.
