There's a lot of blame for Bianca on this, but why is no one blaming Varric?

He's the one hung up on her.  She may have turned him down, and even many times, but he sought her out for work, and she did it (and screwed up massively, though that doesn't seem to be the issue people have with her).  She obviously cares about him, but it could easily be the care of a former lover and friend.  It seems like a lot of 'Evil woman who must be dangling Varric on a string!'- but... it seems to me more like someone who has moved on with her life, and someone pining after them even though they know that.

He contacted her, not the other way around.  It's sad for Varric as he loved her, but I don't see how it's her fault that he's in love with her.

I agree - Varric is also at fault.  Sadly, he comes across as rather pathetic now that we know more about the story.  Particularly his 'relationship' with crossbow!Bianca.  It was cute/funny in DA2 - but now we know more, it seems ...sad.

That said - I do still find fault with Bianca.  She decided to stick with family/status and marry the guy her family chose for her.  She stood Varric up at the altar (his words, but that's all we know).  Yet, she chastises him for not keeping in touch - which they have been for at least 15-ish years.  And invites him to see her workshop (before her husband comes home).  She's keeping him in her world - blatantly ignoring the risk it is for Varric (her family sends assassins after him).  Yes, Varric is a willing participant.

I just think...Bianca (the real one), must realise that Varric is still pining.  And yes, we don't know the whole story.  But Varric isn't going to let go - he agrees to visit her home.  If you really loved someone (romantic or as a friend), you'd want them to move on.  Particularly if you chose someone else.  This is a 15 year old issue.  15 years since she chose someone else and continued to keep Varric around - as a friend or whatever.  And Varric hasn't moved on.  It is a bit sick.  Bianca comes across (to me, at least) as having her cake and eating it too.  Varric is a willing idiot, yes.  But really - let the guy move on.  Force him if you have to.  Its what a friend would do, and it is what she should do, since he clearly hasn't let go.

Edit: Also - Iron Bull refers to Bianca as Varric's 'girlfriend', and Varric doesn't disagree.  Which is either him being delusional, or they are actually still sleeping together even though Bianca is married.  Either way - and both possibilities are a bit off-putting - I really dislike the Bianca-Varric thing.  And as I like Bianca otherwise, it is a bit disappointing.

No matter the character, Laura Bailey's voice is always a delight.

She didn't stand Varric up at the alter. She had a firsr wedding she didn't turn up to, because it was an arranged wedding she didn't want. Later she was forced to go through with it a second time.

You people are misinterpreting everything about this. Varric and Bianca are in a mutually loving relationship, albeit long distance, and have been for 15 years or so.

My immediate reaction to Bianca was almost violent hatred followed immediately by me laughing at myself because I wanted Varric to be a romance. This is the first time I have felt jealous of some pixels.

So I will just have to recuse myself when it comes to judgements of Bianca's character.  I am incapable of impartiality.  My Inquisitor did cut her some slack though because it was in character for her.

You dangle yourself in front of Varric and constantly break his heart, refusing to let him move on with someone better and healthier for him, AND, though I pray to the Maker it's not true, it's implied that she cheats on her husband, and I /detest cheaters/ above almost everything (reading about the magister who threw boiling water in her lover's face when she caught him cheating made me smile and applaud her). This means that not only is she the worst kind of person in my book, she's making Varric a terrible person. Cheating is never okay or the answer and I will not argue this point.

I do think this though.  My esteem for Varric took a hit on this one.  I am not down with cheating except in a few situations that are so rare as to not even matter.

They just didn't reveal the backstory for her is all. Once she gets her own background I'm sure she'll be interesting.

I didn't think she was that bad. I got the impression she'd lost her edge after years of being married, though.

I couldn't believe that this short quest and really unlikeable Bianka is the reason that there was not Varric romance. Hell I thought she would be different. Then I would understand. And she's married. Varric should be happy and move on. Even with some else not necessary Inquisitor. She's not making him happy. I thought it's more tragic story behind it but this it's just ugh...

I don't know if I even want to hear it. From the banter between her and Varric in Valamar, she's not only the BEST SMITH EVAR but also supposedly on par with Varric as a marksman. I'm sure if we get more backstory it'll be revealed that she has dragon blood and is the reincarnation of the first paragon.

Me too.  I was going to ****** and moan about how Bianca sucks in this game because the scaling is bad, but it's hard to complain about when people are posting videos of Varric obliterating dragons in seconds.  Then again, I'm sure I could make him kick ass too if I wanted to micromanage like that.  Companions should be able to get by well on their AI.

But this is a good topic too.  Because Bianca the dwarf is godawful.  She's a huge Mary Sue, she threatens you without you being able to retaliate, she's to blame for Corypheus finding red lyrium, ect. ect.  She's just terrible.  I'm with Pewps, I don't even want more of her story.  I want her to go away and never be mentioned again.  0/10, would not name weapons after.

You really seem to sum things up the best way here. I don't think he's being delusional, but I do think she is using him because she doesn't want to let go of him, but won't defy her family for the sake of him. He is entirely aware of this, but doesn't fight it and can't quite let go of her. I've got more than one male friend that has been in this sort of relationship with a married woman. It's kind of sweet how much they still care for each other, but in the end, Varric will be the one who loses out. It's unfair to Varric, unfair to Bianca, and unfair to Bianca's husband. I've had friends who had relationships like this, and it was painful to watch, and know how things would turn out.

Man, where did all this Bianca hate come from? My only problem with her is that I thought her character design was a little too generic.

Really I thought it was more of a case of they couldn't move on from each other even though I guess since she's married it looks like she benefits more(she might not even like the guy. Is a loveless marriage really a perk?). Also even if she messed up she was subjecting herself to insanity causing lyrium because she wanted to help Varric's brother so she obviously cares about him. And really the threat didn't bother me. Can you imagine the threat Cassandra would make if she thought someone was a possible danger to her LI? Probably stab more than their book.

Cheating is NOT a mutually loving relationship. It's disgusting on /every level/ and is. Never. Okay. I don't care if you were forced into the marriage or not. It is one of the worst things a person can do to somebody and making Varric a participant is disgusting.

And I hate her voice. I hate that fake sultry ****.

Also best smith ever my ass. She made doors. Cavemen can make doors. I make personalized weapons and armor for my party (yeah, yeah, Harrit or whatever his name is supposedly does, but you never see him do it so I RP my Inquisitor does it herself). I put in the best materials possible and then spend hours personally naming them and making sure I don't reuse names in other playthroughs.

Bet Varric would toss Bianca before he tosses the armor I made him my first play through after a super hard decision was made.

Named it Hawke.

Whatever tickles Varrics pickle. I guess he likes her *Sparkling* personality.
