The fix worked for me, I'm on 7. From what I can see, you are only affected if you are running something other that xp and you have a dual core cpu. Quads and XP users are immune to the problem...

Confirmed results on C2D E8200 Win7 x64.
Funny thing. Both minimal and recommended specs call for a dual core, yet disabling one of the cores offers a significant performance boost.
Awaiting a "HOW DO I MULTITHREAD" patch.

Yes, it seems to be a dual core issue. I have 2 almost identical systems: one with a Q6600(quad) and one with an E6600(dual). The Q6600 loads in like 3 seconds, and the E6600 takes like 30 seconds.
Thanks for the fix, I'll try it out once i get home from classes.

I use a SSD ... all levels load in under 4 seconds or less. only a few huge levels take up to an unbelievable 7 seconds to load. *sigh*

I havn't noticed any slow loading levels, nor did I see any increase when changing it. I'm using AMD Phenom II tri-core.
Is it limited to intel only?

I have this problem also.
Core 2 Duo E8500
Win 7 64-bit
Load times on the Normandy were 30+ seconds but after messing with the affinity they are only a few seconds. I'll give that app above a try on my next playthrough. Manually setting it every time gets tiresome.

No. You have a tricore so you are not affected. It is limited to Dual core that are not on XP.

I have a dual core, I usually get load times from 10 to 15 seconds. Is this a quad core problem or vista??

Win7 x64, C2D E6850 here. Confirmed to work - from loading times of a minimum of 30 seconds everywhere (loading quick saves, running elevators) to loading times of a maximum of 10 seconds (mostly around 5ish).
Hopefully there'll be an official fix for this.

Same here. I've had no issues with timing... My Q9550 runs perfect. very strange that some are having this issue.Miths wrote...
Haven't had any problems on my Core 2 Quad Q9400 system. Switching floors on the Normandy takes a second or two.

Wolfe - it really isn't that strange, as this issue is limited to DUAL CORES only. This has been stated many times, so please read before posting.
As for the fix, this brought my load times right down from nearly a minute for each 'quicksave', down to 2-3 seconds. I've run processor logging during these loading periods and nothing too dramatic happens, quite the opposite - both cores seem to be maxing out around 10%. After switching affinity to one core only, and then back to dual core, it uses more of the power instead of maxing out early.
Thanks for posting the fix - I was starting to see those loading screens in my dreams!

Im running XP SP3 and the game runs smooth as hell (AMD X2 6400+). Loading times 5-10 s wich is ok i think.
All people reporting problems here use Windows 7 so it's more a Windows 7 problem (maybe Vista too) .

Excellent. On an E8400 and Vista 32-bit this reduced my loading times from up to a minute to a mere few seconds.

Is this only a problem for Vista?
I've always had Dual Core, but only after my Windows 7 trial ran out and I switched back did the loading become crap.

simple answer is that Bioware must change Engine. I have the same problem. I feel like throwing my laptop right away. well, my laptop is nothing is wrong. other games run super faster. only only damn ME2 causes this ancient problem. come on. bioware. change engine.
