simple answer is that Bioware must change Engine. I have the same problem. I feel like throwing my laptop right away. well, my laptop is nothing is wrong. other games run super faster. only only damn ME2 causes this ancient problem. come on. bioware. change engine.

I'd usually make a snide remark about bumping an old thread, but this issue seems to be persistently relevant.

Did Patch 1.01 in February fix any of the dual core problems or does it still occur?

Wow I missed this thread the first time, but I'm sure glad it got bumped. All this time I just thought ME2 had really, really long load times compared to ME1, but apparently it's just because I'm using Vista with a Core2Duo E8400 processor. With this trick load times are now only as long as the loading-screen animation plays.

Sure hope they fix the dual core problem in ME3.

@Ecael: No apparently the patch didn't fix it. :(

EDIT: Holyhell after playing for only a few minutes this is soooooooo much better! :o

Missed this the first time as well. Windows Vista, intel dual core. This workaround literally cut a minute off of my load times on the Normandy. This thread should be stickied.

Here I am reviving an old thread. However, it's ok because this issue still plagues ME2. I'm on E6850 Win7 64bit and get crazy long load times unless I use the brilliant Massaffinity app by Quarn. I do think it's remarkable that I have to use a special app to run the game...but it sure beats the long load times.

This is a weird issue because I also get long load times in The Last Remnant (U3 Engine), however in that game the set affinity trick doesn't work and I'm still trying to figure out how to fix the long load times...

I played The Last Remnant in XP and never had the issue, so again it's just confirmation that this load times problem happens to only dual core users in Win7 and seemingly Vista.

Weirdly enough, I didn't start getting the problem until I upgraded my graphics drivers on Windows 7.

It took almost 2 minutes to load anything, even the Captain's Quarters on the Normandy.

After doing the affinity fix and replacing all the loading screen *.bik files, it now takes less than 10 seconds to load my save file, and less than 5 seconds to load anything else.

I run a quad core with Win7 x64, and have never had issues with prolonged loading times.

I thought it was limited to core 2 duo's. I know when I use Mass Affinity which does the processor affinity tweak automatically on startup, the game loads all areas more than 3 times faster. Very noticeable. Coupled with the 'quick movie load screens' tweak in the coalesced.ini the game loads areas in a flash.

Mass Affinity, if it hasn't already been posted, didn't read whole thread.

OMG thank you. I actually avoided going between decks because the wait times were so long.

Thank you.

Works perfectly, the whole PC community needs to see this.

If they do not have the decency to fix the issue then they should at least have the decency to STICKY this thread.

As stated in the rest of this thread, this issue is for Intel dual core users. So quad core people should be fine.

Necro'ing this thread is a bit poetic because it highlights the absurdity that this still isn't fixed and never will be.

But I blame Unreal tech since dual cores have quite a few issues with Unreal engine games. The only solution is to buy a new cpu...

What about hex cores, is there any problems with those and ME2?

Also AMD dual cores, like for instance my Athlon 64 x2 6000+.

You necro'd a year old thread, gave absolutely no information as to what the actual problems are, gave no system details, and posted it 4 times.

If you want help, I would suggest going to the appropriate Tech Support forum for ME2 (Xbox, PC, PS3), and follow the instruction in the stickied threads on how to report an error.

Currently replaying ME2, using the affinity fix on Win 7/E8400. Still needed, still works, still annoying to have to do each time I start the game.
