I understand the OCD desire to "GET IT ALL" but I figured out very early - this game is massive. The main quest on it's own is massive. The amount of side quests that are interesting is large. Plus the companion quests, etc.

So I did not spend a huge amount of time in the Hinterlands - I'd look at the map as I was heading to a key objective and from there, I'd gather what shards, camps, fetch stuff was in the area and handle it by that. I very rarely run around ONLY collecting shards.

That's the advice I would offer - think of it from a realistic point of view. We'd never do that IRL - if you were tasked with such a major role and had to do some of these supporting activities to bolster your forces/earn standing and power, you'd probably prioritize and multi-task on the way to your main objective. Oh, a shard nearby? I'll grab that as I go.

Granted, sometimes you'll have to go off the beaten path for a small objective but overall taking this approach really made the game feel awesome and expansive w/o becoming terribly tedious.

The only caveat to this is they REALLY need to fix the way we loot - no AoE loot and having to manually WALK to everything gets old quickly when you combine it with the search ping/difficultly in seeing things at times.

I have that OCD get-it-all desire too, and usually that's what results in me not completely any Ubisoft game.  The difference between a Ubisoft game and a Bioware game is good writing, which is why I'll probably finish DA:I even while 100%-ing it.

You and me both - though it's fair to say my first play-thru is always incomplete on side quests/made with rough decisions as I stumble my way through the choices, etc and then I tend to do my major canon play-thru immediately after armed with a better understanding of the classes, specs, choices, etc and combing out the 100% completions as I go :)

Yes but you need "Power" to get from one main quest to another, plus you need to level up regularly (I have trouble with the game even on casual...).

I would absolutely love to skip all the little things and just do companion quests and the main quest, but it's not possible.

It is absolutely possible. I did maybe half the content in the game and still finished the story with 50 power left over. You are in no danger of not having enough power.

If you still do wish to do a completionist run, I suggest you use the custom marker on the map and use it regularly to lead you to the nearest quest marker so you can multi-task. This will save you alot of time needlessly backtracking the areas. I finished the entire initial hinterlands area on my 2nd playthough within just a few hours.

Not to mention the custom marker lights up ingame with a blue light into the heavens, so you can see precisely where you need to go; up/down/etc.
