Just wondering if anybody has a simple guide to the locations of the elven artifacts? I read somewhere that you need to activate 10 in order to trigger Solas' third companion quest.... Also, any way to see how many artifacts you've activated already?
PS, this is my first time posting anything, so my apologies if I'm in the wrong place/this has been asked before! Or if it's just a stupid question in general.

Probably doesn't help at all, but I purchased the bioware collector's edition guide and they've marked them all on the maps in the book. 
I read somewhere here in these forums that Solas has to be present when the Elven artifacts are activated in order to get the 3rd personal quest
Making a guide for this is in my to-do list once weapons/crafting/schematics lists are more complete. If you'd like to help please note where you have found some and I'll compile it a bit faster.
There's 2 in Old Crestwood, also one in the caves next to Old Crestwood. So three in the flooded area you then make navigable.

Can anyone confirm that they actually got this quest? From everything I've read, it's bugged and won't trigger no matter how many you get.
Pretty sure it is bugged.... I'm 110% sure I have more than 10, had Solas in my party everytime I activated them - still no quest. 
Idont know i randomly found one Artifact.
you have to make sure your approval rating is pretty high to get the companion third tier quest, plus timing of the main story I have noticed some of the quest do not become acquirable to later progression.
I'm curious about the quest too. I've collected every artifact that is mapped in the guide (definitely more than 10) and had Solas in my party 100% of the time. I know I also have really high approval with him, but I've never gotten this quest. I talked to him after every major quest and I'm now at the end of the game so I think it might just be bugged.
First off, activating 10 of the artifacts to unlock "What Lies Dormant" is currently bugged.
They are looking to fix that in the next patch.

I have since, as of last night, cataloged the two I was missing in the Hinterlands, the one I was missing on the Storm Coast, and the last one I was missing in the Western Approach. I plan to post those all up in an update later tonight or tomorrow.
I'd be happy to cross-post here, if you'd like. 
Has there been any indication of when the next patch will be? I'm worried about continuing my playthrough any further in case I go too far. Solas is my romance and has been with me constantly. We've been finding these orbs by accident because we're just poking about in ruins and he says he senses them and I haven't been keeping count. There has been no indication they are a quest. I thought PW had played through his character, so how come he didn't discover the problem?
No idea when the next patch will be.

I've added as many locations as possible to the Elven Relics page on the wiki. @DragonRacer provided images and I'd love to get some more images to facilitate discovery!
