Vitaar questions

1. Most Vitaar has a damage bonus instead of an armor bonus. Does this bonus only apply to basic attacks, or do Spells and Talents benefit from the damage bonus as well?
2. If Spells and Talents benefit from the damage bonus, is that damage added to weapon damage and then multiplied out by the Spell or Talent (yay), or is it added after the Spell or Talent has calculated it's damage (boo)?
3. Are there any unique Vitaar to be found, or is blue the highest quality they get?
4. Do you ever get the ability to craft Vitaar?

Excellent questions, and I'm wondering about the answers myself. Thus far, I don't think you can craft Vitaar (which sucks); I'm in Tier 3 and after some research on the internet no one has confirmed it (and it's not in the armor schedmatics of merchants). I think there are unique Vitaar, especially for the higher levels (17 and up). Can't remember the names, but one involves spider and the other Felandris, I believe. I got those while running around looting things and merchants in Val Royeaux.

you cannot craft vitaar. There is a level 20 unique Arishok Vitaar. From what I have read, it is obtained by opening all the shard doors in the oasis.

But collecting all the shards is bugged isn't it? On my first playthrough I collected all the shards yet I still needed 2 more to open the last door in the oasis.

It wasn't in my game. I managed to open the main door and it did, in fact contain the Arishock's vitaar. But collecting all the shards is bugged isn't it? On my first playthrough I collected all the shards yet I still needed 2 more to open the last door in the oasis.

I opened the last door couple hours ago and got the arishok vitaar. Not the best looking face paint but certainly is rather good stat wise.

A vitaar adds directly to the base damage of your weapon. The effect of wearing it is quite noticeable on a mage because the staff has naturally low weapon damage.

Then by that logic, I would assume that a Vitaar would make your spells more powerful, as well. Not sure how to test that, but it makes a solid case for a Qunari Mage, as their damage will be a little higher than any other race.

easy to test. Go out into the wilderness, find a dozen nugs and kill them with the vitaar on. Check the damage dealt and record the values. Repeat the process with the Vitaar off. Calculate the average and you will see it should be slightly higher with vitaar on than without it. Though really, the difference is getting a 19 DPS face pain compared to a 40 defense helmet.Of course, the arishok vitaar has +8% attack so it does a bit more of a damage boost.

oh, MAN! If it DOES get added directly onto weapon damage that's an incredible increase in damage, especially for mages, which only get up to something like 80 weapon damage, and also probably huge for dual-wield rogues as well. Good to know!
