Seriously, I was expecting them to actually fix the place up.

When it said A Better Courtyard I actually thought it'd be better. But nope, puddles of water, poor paving, rubble all over. Oh, we fixed that one building in the back for you, that's all you wanted right?

The Garden I have no idea what the difference between a Chantry garden and herbal garden is, aside from the extra 6 pots. The well is still covered up, looks unkempt and in general not much different from the original one. Not really how I expected a garden specially designed for growing herbs to look like, you know, with only the one corner being used for the purpose.

I haven't tried the Templar tower yet but I'm gonna assume the only difference will be the flag that hangs outside but at least something noticable happen to that one.

And speaking of towers, why are all other towers unused except for Cullen's? They're just rubble depositories apparently. Could we at least fix the hole in Cullen's roof? With all the quarries and logging stands I've been finding that apparently have no use at all we certainly have the resources.

I agree with everything you said, but I have another thing I would like to add.

We go round up all this stuff, take the time to break up the main story even more. It means exactly nothing. Yes it's visually pretty, but that should be a bonus.

Skyhold should have been attacked, there should have been a epic battle. The army at heaven should not have been taken out in a skiing accident.

The upgrades could have really mattered towards the plot in the game, but instead they were completely filler. It honestly felt like the Sims in that regard.

Bioware cut alot of content from what was originally shown in video streams.

Example:

That village you were supposed to save early in the game...

Well, I am still early in the game (even after over 80 hours) and I expect that there will be more changes coming later after I do the next big storyline mission(s). Have you guys already completed a playthrough?

I have. Gantries are gone but there's still a big honking hole in the wall on the way to the war table, tower roofs are still in disrepair and the way to my bloody quarters is a bleeding junkyard (really...wtf is up with that?). And you really do only get 3 upgrades that you won't actually notice unless you look really carefully. This is an EA published game, so i think we can all guess what's coming for this along with allowing us to traipse around the castle in something other than our jammies.... I would be delighted to be wrong on this :/

Ok. Has zero to do with the topic at hand though. Which was "Skyhold's upgrades are disappointing", as in: the upgrades that are in the game.

I understand the need of choice for the garden and the tower. However when it comes to the courtyard the choice should not be there.

Having to choose between a training area and a infirmary is just stupid. Its not these share the same building.

There should have been separate quests to improve the courtyard.

Infirmary

Training Area

Fixing Walls (like in Awakening)

Adding in decorations to make the entrance more presentable.

Give the shop keeps their own small in door shops.

The courtyard is fairly large there is no excuse why more cannot be added, changed etc.

Every time I go by the Infirmary tents, there is a dead or very sick patient lying on the ground. They have this huge place and the sick folks are stuck in the mud and puddles with no shelter. Give that poor doctor a place to take care of her patients.

Its funny, if you take the Training Ground Upgrade over the Infirmary, the room that would have been used, just sits there, broken tables, cobwebs n all. makes no sense other than Bioware ran out of time, and was being pressured from EA to release the game, and no more delays would be afforded.

so GG unpolished game, removed content.

Since I wrote my post above, I was able to choose to upgrade the infirmary but so far I haven't found the upgrade. I'm hoping that the next time I leave and return to Skyhold, I'll see something better.

So much unused space there...there is room for everything, if they'd let us fix the place up.

I posted about this as well. The place is a mess! a ruin even. Most of it is still filled with rubble, holes, and cobwebs. All that time collecting resources to do what exactly? At the very least, we should get a good size DLC to do some REAL work on it. Lord knows, it needs it!!

I am still not done yet, only 2 main quests remaining, but I am already missing the promised 1 mio possibilities to make your Skyhold unique. Those possibilities must include what agents you acquire and what leave fell from what tree, because else I can't see really big differences beside the style for your throne and your main interior.

Crestwood was my "sample" fact.  In retrospect, a bad one but "put in" in support of your statement.

The "CUT" comment is to say that their original intention was to actually show progress, as you played the game. To show progress meant man-hours of additional  work by artists but the looming Launch date took that away from them.

The infirmary upgrade is near Cassandra: they move the sick people from the tents and into a repaired little room.

Like, 1 ward. Not even a big ward.

Personally, I'm still glaring at that stupid hole in the roof of Cullen's "room", and the hole in the wall leading to the war room. You'd think that they'd at least board them up at some point. And on a side note, I really don't understand why my inquisitor's room is so nice when I barely spend any time in it outside of romance cut scenes. While I like having a "nice" room for my inquisitor, I would much prefer a smaller room if it meant other people had a proper roof over their heads (still glaring at that hole in Cullen's roof) and I didn't get paranoid I'd trip over loose bricks and rubble when trying to make my way to the war room.

The stairway/tower leading up to the Inquisitor's private suite:  Even if the resources are not available to "upgrade" that area, at least pick up the rubble on the floor that leads up to the HERALD OF ANDRASTE's living quarters!  Come on, the most important person in the whole Inquisition, and he/she might break his/her neck going back and forth from bed, from tripping on things that should have been picked up before the suite was ever completed.

Repair all the outer walls.  That big divot out of the wall between the stable and the main keep should have been a priority.  We are at war, are we not?  We keep expecting a possible attack?  With all the quarries and lumber stands I have "claimed" you would think something so important would have been done before upgrading many of the fu-fu areas.

Prison:  Granted, it never seems to get used, even though I was sure I have sent people there.  But having a giant gaping hole in the back of the prison is not just a way to get you on the bad side of Amnesty International, for the care of your prisoners, it is also a very large security risk.  Any spies or assassins would see that as a huge neon sign as ENTER HERE, and could create all types of havoc in Skyhold.

Now that I know where the infirmary is, I go by there, hoping it's been improved. Get some beds in there, some light, give it more space. If my PC had any power at all (and she does...she has a zillion extra power points!)  :P she'd have the infirmary made much nicer than it is right now. No one should be on the ground or outside anymore.

The mages tower was a laugh also.

The game is so massive  and so detailed in many ways (sights and sounds) yet some of the small fluff  stuff got missed... hair texture and style, PJs (the advisor's never get to change their clothes) storage, holes in roofs, no ball gowns for the women, etc etc/

Oh well - hoping we have some cheap dlc's to compensate.

Agreed. Should have been like Mass Effect 2, choosing the upgrades to the Normandy was actually a big deal once you went through the Omega 4 relay.

That garden - six pots? Pathetic. I played a sims gardening game a decade and a half ago that had better gardening.

Only 3 major upgrades in skyhold and they are just visual candy, they do not have any impact on gameplay or story at all, so yes they are a bit disappointing not to mention that even after these upgrades there are still rooms/areas that are broken and full of rubble.

Yeah, this, some parts started getting more fixed up as I did main storyline quests and then.... Nothing, giant holes in walls, half the towers are still wrecked.  =/

There are way more quarries and logging stands in the game than needed for the upgrades, they could have had incremental changes that fix the whole keep once you've unlocked all quarries and logging stands (which would even give you half a reason to take that inquisition perk).

The infirmary is next to the requisition officer's office, it's normally a run down destroyed building, but the infirmary fixes it up. However, the sick people are still lying in the mud and tents in the front entrance, I guess no one got around to moving the sick and injured people 50 feet to the infirmary.

from the research i did before i finished my playthrough, because this was nagging the hell out of me, because everytime i saw the cieling it was awful, as was stated the junkyard to personal courters ect, anyways, from what i found all those quarries and logging stands were suppossed to go to skyhold AS WELL AS your keeps, but nope they just hang out, collecting dust, i got every single one of them, and nothing.

Templar tower, you get the flag thing and inside is cleaned up, mage tower you get it's falg thing and mage crap inside that does nothing, oh you also get their respective banner pieces but only if you choose one or the other.

The courtyard is a joke, with the garden i went with more pots because i despise the chantry, i found the whole thing annoying, maker this, maker than oh herald herald, not to mention they would never shut up with their prayers, sometimes you would get 2 overlapping.

anyways, i agree a complete dissapointment, i was hoping i could get **** fixed, not just put a bit of paint on it... also would have been nice if the "hidden" rooms aka the basement had more uses than the quiz guy and the vault.
