I'm aware that with the Short List perk Superior Battlemage and Battlemaster t3 gold schematics are available at random from the hissing wastes merchant.

I have been cycling through saves (then exiting completely to clear xbox cache) and I've had the following:

Schematics:
Superior Venatori Helm, overlord helm, Superior Inquisitors hat, superior Battlemaster, superior Battlemage,

Armour,
Blue Battlemaster, blue superior prowler mail, purple Superior Battlemage.

If anyone has a gold T3 Superior Rogue armor Schematic please let me know!!! If you could purchase it thanks to the perk also let me know.

I've been battling the RNG for over an hour now... If I wanted to battle RNG tonight I would be playing destiny... This is ridiculous! Bringing RNGesus into dragon age is not on!! That guy hates me.

Yes i have it, it is also available at the hissing wastes merchant with the perk, but because there are so many options it can be difficult to come across.

 

 

There's a theory that the extra inventory could be time based, so for what it's worth I found this at 8:15 pm

Thanks for the reply!! I tested the time theory by changing the Xbox time to no avail.

I shall continue my: apply the perk, check merchant runs until I get lucky I guess. Or go completely mad.

Finally got it!! I've been doing a couple of hours a day cycling through my runs of applying the perk, checking the merchant and going back to previous save and day three was a success!!

Wait, so you need to reapply the perk in order to refresh the inventory, or do you just need to reload the area and walk there?

You need to quit the game entirely and then re enter and apply the perk. It's bullshit I know but that's how I got what I wanted.

No you can't put the perk back in, unless you reload a save, the short list is completely RNG and its stock changes sometimes on fast travel, while i was farming schematics, fast traveled to sulleden keeps merchant found a new t3 wep schematic then fast traveled again went on my farm route around 5 more times the merchant changed rare loot schematic

I didn't think you could re apply a perk. Trying to work out what mistermutiny is on about.

Yeah I should have re-iterated the fact I reapplied the perk on a previous save.

Based on my incomplete tests, the Short List perk appears to be entirely disconnected from mumbo-jumbo like "reapplying" the perk.

 

If the system clock or time is involved (which I don't think, having seen no evidence of such), it is such a short time (less than 2 minutes, as that's roughly the turnaround time I had in my tests, traveling between two zones with merchants close to the travel point allowing me to check at either end), that it is effectively the same as time being irrelevant.

 

All that appears to matter is travel between zones; However, as the choice of item from a merchant's Short List appears to be a random draw with no memory, the smaller the Short List for a given merchant is, the more frequently his inventory will appear unchanged the next time you visit due to the greater chance of picking the same item.

 

One thing that was not at all clear to me in my test series, as that would require a much larger number of tests to determine, is whether that random draw uses an equidistribution or not.

Ah, thank you! That's what I'm doing now, hopping between the Hissing Wastes and the Emprise du Lion, because those seem to be the best chance for masterwork L3 schematics. The one in Hissing Wastes hasn't done much refreshing, but I know I've already bough ta lot. Looking for the superior prowler armor for all those juicy utility slots!

 

By the way - has anybody seen Tier 3 masterwork single-target daggers? Nobody seems to have an answer OR have a picture of them, so unless they're extraordinarily rare or don't exist, they must be a reward for a quest chain nobody's gone on yet!

 

Edit: Did you get that prowler armor in hissing wastes by rezoning the area a bunch? I've been in an out a whole lot and there haven't been any new armor schematics, and it's still only selling the unique Drasca Helm. Is there something different about the Hissing Wastes merchant I'm missing?

I didn't see superior prowler armour schematics during my tests, but then I stopped the moment I had the schematics I was most looking for after 11 visits or so (I was running a two mage party and wanted superior mage hat/chest, so when I'd gotten those and the Venatori Helmet I was content), so I can't say whether it signifies anything.

 

It is the same problem as the question of equidistribution - simply too few tests. As an example, I saw the Staff of the Void in 7/11 tests in Val Royeaux in the same test series (as I was zooming back and forth between two merchant locations to increase my test data with fewer transitions), which is more than one would expect with an equidistribution of the items I observed he sold (and who knows, he may have had even more items on his Short List I didn't see), but whether that means that that staff was more likely than other choices for that particular Val Royeaux merchant or not is impossible to say with so few tests.

Ive heard that 1 hour needs to pass and some zoning involved and it changes items, cant confirm it though.

Uh oh, now I'm worried that the short list will only give you one masterwork weapon slot, and once you buy a masterwork weapon or armour schematic, then none more will load because that slot is empty. I've had that "Helm of the Drasca" there every time I've loaded all yesterday!

 

Edit: wait, no that doesn't make sense, because i've bought a bunch of MW weapon grips and stuff from the Emprise Du Lion guy. Is there something different about the Hissing Wastes merchant where he doesn't refresh his gear?

 

2x Edit Combo: On literally my next refresh of the hissing wastes merchant, the Superior Prowler Coat (not schematic, actual armour) popped up for sale there, which  means it DOES refresh, and either the superior prowler armour is very rare or I am an exceptionally unlucky person

I have not figured the correct time but I guess its 6+ realtime hours for Emprise Du Lion and Hissing Waste.

I've seen people say that the short list things don't change - I've seen new weapons for sale at Emprise, but they may not specifically be short list items. I haven't gotten a new armor schematic from Emprise for days, maybe it's becasue of bad luck? I'd hate to think that you only get one to buy.

In my now finished game, I ended up buying three  short list armour schematics from the vendor during the game; superior battlemage armour, superior inquisitor hat, and superior venatori helmet.

 

So no.

Yeah the Val Royeaux vendors seem to refresh with each zoning, or every 5 min. It may seem like they're not refreshing cuz some items are much more likely (like the Staff of the Void).

The dog vendor and Emprise du Lion vendors definitely need tome to refresh. I would say at least an hr or so.

I went back after spending the whole day on essays and it's the same Masterwork prowler Coat rare armor that's in the dog vendor. It might take a whole day?

Emprise Du Lion trader and Hissing Waste dog trader are definitly longer than 4 hours. I checked them over severall days. I was there on an sunday after each 60-90 minutes and they changed after 5-6 hours. Now I checked them in the morning, evening and night for 1+ week and they changed alot. So I guess its 6+ hours. Maybe its an fixed time on day or an counter since you was there and they changed. Checking them 3 times a day works fine and I don't care any longer. The game is done for this character and I play another character and used this game only to see the possible schematics. My character has still some gold to buy some T3 schematics but I haven't seen any interesting over the last week.

Save loading at chests in empreus landed me superior mage,rogue Hats and superior battlemaster armor. Not sure on the amount if chests, but I got a masterwork longsword grip called masterwork skull grip. Offense 9 and utility 3 both metal. Its wicked sweet looking on the longswords. Plus the inquisitor hats make my mages look like pimps!

Anyhow, the short list does depend on time and what vendor. The vendor in skyhold sells masterwork mats on shortlist. 4 hours it changes it seems. Maybe 5.
