I vote that his armor be fixed, but his scars stay. Scars add character. Wouldn't matter if they burned his face off or something, he's still the same Garrus. As they are they don't take away from his appearance anyway, but it doesn't matter either way.

I would think most people would get their armor fix or replaced if they had a hole blown through it though. That makes sense. His face isn't horribly disfigured or anything, so getting that fixed really isn't necessary, but the armor is. I mean...is he planning on wearing the same set forever? Because that's got to reek in there and besides, we all know how technology works - they're always improving things. It just wouldn't be practical to keep wearing the same old armor with a hole blown through it, and it really doesn't make sense when a hole is arbitrarily slapped on to a new set.

Away with the hole. He's got to upgrade sometime...

Hate to inject after the fact, but I was always someone who defended my rights, even against overbearing teachers, and my parents have always backed me up when someone does something wrong and illegal

What your teacher did was illegal. She stole something of yours, at the time. Then she INVADED your privacy by reading the material without your permission. She had no right to take a folder, which was probably closed and you weren't reading it, without your permission.

I would have reported that teacher in and submitted a complaint (via your parents) to the school district.

Teachers are not supposed to terrorize students in the classroom; and by doing what she did, she made the classroom a hostile environment.

But as this advice is a little late for you, it seems that you have grown past that bad experience and have made the best of your life, which is cool ^_^

Hope that anyone who thinks that just because they are in school, it doesn't mean your rights are suddenly gone. Expectation of privacy is still a fundamental right for every student, and not even a teacher can violate that right.

Thanks Dee.  From my experiences in my public school district I am quite passionate about privacy and other student rights.  Maybe nowadays, or in other schools, it would be different, but trust me, reporting her would at best have been dismissed by the administration, and at worst only made things more difficult for me.  Stealing my fanfiction was a small time job compared to things like taking students' cell phones out of their purses if they rang (using rule of "no cell phones allowed" as justification) and refusing to return them until the end of the school year. After their parents have, of course, gone out and purchased a new one, because they need it.  I witnessed an man in the admin office once begging to just at least see his daughter's phone for a few minutes so he could copy the number of his doctor out of the contacts.  We weren't allowed to have backpacks because of the Columbine shootings.  A friend of mine got a day of suspension for coming in the "wrong" door, even though he only used it because he was on crutches.  My sister had to take her PSATs (the test that decides national merit scholarships) in a cafeteria while the lunch ladies were playing music and banging pots and pans.  There are worse stories that I won't get into here.  She and I have often discussed writing a book or screenplay about our experiences...

As for reporting that teacher, like I said, the school district had no money, and thus a lot of bad teachers and administrators, and was also rather corrupt (in my 5 years there 3 people including the superintendent were forced out or resigned because of extortion and other charges..we also had 2 good teachers forced out for bogus charges).  And it didn't help that I come from a political family.  So most teachers were either nicer to me than they should have been, or crueller in order to avoid seeming like they played favorites.  And some simply did not like my surname (my parents scrimped and saved to send me to private school in a different city until 8th grade). Of course, the 12 or 13 year old kid that I was didn't fully comprehend a lot of what was going on.  To me, school was just something to bear, and art and writing helped me do that =).

OK I know I got kind of off topic with this, but oh well, I hope it was interesting to someone, plus it's ultimately about sharing a love for all-things-fandom, even (or especially) things the outside world might find "weird"....like being crazy about a cat-bird-lizard with mad skillz and smexy scars!

I haven't gotten desperate enough to go there...but eventually...

That'll be a delightful package of high blood pressure, extensive cursing, and threats of excruciating pain and dismemberment to the ones responsible for the rampant cheating by the enemy AI - I can't wait.

Well I just finished my hardcore playthrough. Didn't die as much as I thought I would, I can't imagine insanity being that much harder to be honest. Good luck with insanity anyway.Posted Image

I really don't see Garrus understanding V-Day. It's very much a human commercial holiday, and I don't see that changing in the future. I can imagine having Shepard try and explain it to him would be a mix of cute and awkward, ending with a slightly inappropriate (not that way you pervs) gift, and much alcohol.

Oh trust me, the rampant cheating took place on lower difficulties too.  But yeah, I assume this is going to be painful, at least for the first few missions.

But...humans are the only sentient race that we know of so...how could it be anything but a human holiday? I could go on a rant about the word "commercial" and its association with holidays, but I won't.

A holiday means whatever you want it to. If going out and buying something for someone is a bad thing...I don't really know what to say to that. Sure, there are plenty of businesses that are going to try and exploit that, but I don't care about them. I like to make cards for my family on Valentine's Day (eh heh, incidentally what I'm doing right now - yay for procrastination)

My point being...it can be anybody's holiday and I image that Valentine's Day would have its perks in the ME Universe just as well as it does in our current society. People like to have a reason to celebrate things. You can't afford to celebrate every day so we make holidays that celebrate a specific thing so that on that day we can go postal and splurge for the occasion without feeling too guilty about it.

The Universe of ME would jump on it so fast because there would be money to be made on it - nothing to do about that. But that's not what it's ultimately about.

It's not bad once you start getting your upgrades back. At least you get to keep your weapons and armor. Biggest thing to get used to is that biotics are almost entirely useless on Insanity because every single enemy has some form of protection to blast through first.

True, as far as we know today, here, in 2010, we are the
only sentient race in existence. I am merely speculating based on the nature of
the ME aliens and their culture. Assuming that in ME time Valentine's Day is
still about the chocolate hearts, cards, and silk unmentionables, I just can't
see other races latching on to the idea. I'm not saying the commercialism is a
bad thing, nor am I condoning it. It's just one of those days I see as being uniquely
human.

^^ Agree to this in every way. If you live in America, the ACLU has a page on their website specifically for the submission of complaints about violation of students' rights in schools. My principal was giving a club I was in a hard time (it's a Gay-Straight Alliance to promote equal rights for homosexuals, and we're below the Mason-Dixon line) and I emailed them. They sent my principal a threatening letter the next week, and now we're good to go.

:devil::devil::devil: Take that evil principal!!!

I'm really sorry several of you guys seem to have had bad experiences in high school. That sucks. I dislike school too, but only because I'm much more interested in spending my time on other stuff. Like posting on Garrus Adoration boards.

I see Valentine's Day as being a holiday about love, whether it be for a friend, a family member, or something more intimate - any sentient species can find common ground in that. There are any number of ways for expressing love (chocolate, flowers, cards, etc...) and it would be easily adaptable for another species. It's not about the gifts or the goodies particularly anyway - it's about giving something to someone to celebrate love.

Sentient creatures in general are prone to enjoying parties of various kinds. And they're all capable of love and appreciation of another person, so there would be an instant attraction to the idea of Valentine's Day. It's an excuse to take a break and have fun, ^_^.

They'd be on it like there was no tomorrow. Party!

Agree

If you turn him down during the romance scene its very apparent.  I just wish they would have Thane and Garrus have a wrap-up conversation like Tali does after the game is over.  I want to know how it went.

Yeah, I loved how the Garrus romance seemed to start out as just a way to 'blow off steam', but became a lot more than that. Especially his lines in the scene. "I want something to go right. Just once. Just..."

And no, I did not mind seeing the romance video again just to get that quote exactly right.

But, yeah, I'd like them to talk about it a bit more too. Not just getting back to their old  'I'm busy, go away'-line...

*sigh* I am already so antsy waiting to see what they do with the LIs for ME3.  Hopefully they will hear our cries for MOAR CONTENT and we will never have to hear the word "calibrations" again.  I did read somewhere that they are supposedly going to "go crazy" with the plotlines and content in ME3 since they are not looking to do much tweaking with graphics/engine/techie stuff.  So, I think we should just be telling ourselves they are holding out on us with Garrus' LI lines and scenes because they are saving the best for last!!!

Also re: my long posts about high school, sorry if I brought the mood down, it was not my intention to bring a pity party *is sheepish*, I guess Anastassia's story just conjured up a bunch of old memories.  And hey maybe there are some people still in school who will read it and appreciate it.  Plus sure wish I had known you could get ACLU at your back that easily, that's a great story! My school was "below the Mason-Dixon line" too so...I hear ya.
