I agree with what you guys have been saying. You kinda have to read between the lines--it's definitely not just a "friends with benefits" deal. Otherwise he wouldn't have said lines like "I won't pretend I have a human fetish, but this isn't about that--it's about us". That doesn't exactly scream "You're hot so let's have sex to blow off some steam!" to me. I think Garrus just doesn't feel comfortable referring to sex directly. He's also worried that if it doesn't work out, he and Shepard will have an awkward relationship and their friendship will be ruined because of it. The cliche ol' "I want to be with you but I'm worried about ruining our friendship if we can't find a way to make this work". He talks about sex a lot because it's important to a lasting relationship between two people (well not everyone, but most people aren't asexual) and because being two different species complicates things. Tali does it too.

And besides, if it were just a fling then you wouldn't have the option to tell him you want to stay just friends. Because friends with benefits ARE pretty much "just friends".

At least that's how I viewed the romance. MAYBE I'm completely wrong, but I can't imagine BioWare giving us a Garrus romance after all this time and making it a shallow thing. That's Kelly's job.

Sure it starts out sounding kinda sleazy, but, most of the romance options in ME2 do. Apparently Shepard's favorite method of letting someone know he/she's interested in them is to be incredibly blunt.

Garrus definitely needs a hug, or at the very least to have Femshep hold his hand for a moment or two. Not that he'd ever admit needing either, as he's far too outwardly confident -unless Femshep is involved- to admit to such a thing.

Gah, an image of a chibi Garrus reaching up and asking for a hug just popped into my brain... Must... Resist... The... Cuteness...! D:

^ Exactly. I think just her kissing his scar would have made the scene. She touched it, I would have planted a light kiss on it.
Though I disagree about the ME1 scenes, I thought they were tasteful. Dragon Age was definitely awkward, and that music didn't help matters. I, too, laughed at how ridiculous they were, but I thought the ME1 scenes were much better. Little flashes of skin, it was perfect.

That...would have been so adorable.  I think it would have skyrocketed off the "sweet and touching" scale.  Had they faded to black after that, I would be very satisfied.  Gentle kiss on the scars, Garrus pulling her in for an embrace, slow fade to black.

Oh, heck yes.

Though, I would have still liked some mid-sex flashes of what was going on. Like Garrus, I don't have an alien fetish, but I do like to know that my character got some. Not to say that my Shep didn't do the nasty... I just feel like I should have been there.

...Image IPB...

Too much was left to my imagination. I'm now getting flashes of Shep wearing chaps and work gloves to bed. What's worse is that I can't decide if I like the idea of that or not... WHY Bioware? WHY must you take my mind to these places?

XD

Don't get me wrong...I want to see some Garrus-skin too, but I'd be satisfied with the other stuff. :P ME1 style suggestive camera angles and dimmed lighting...mmm, yes please. :3

The question really is this; how open-minded is Bioware? They gave us Garrus but they gave us the least closure for our relationship and the least-eventful lovescene (though most emotional). Perhaps they are too scared to show a true alien interspecies relationship?

Or...maybe, as in the case with the lack of female designs for most of the alien species, Bioware just doesn't want to have to design turian anatomy underneath the armor/clothes? They do like to cut a few corners.

Two quotes that I just saw in G-Chat. May or may not be mine ;).

garrus+asari = bluegasm

bluemangroup + asari + garrus = f***ed up

and

Refering to the deleted Avatar love scene:

GARRUS IS THE ONLY BLUE PERSON I WANT TO SEE IN ANY SEXUAL SITUATION

I liked Garrus a lot in the first game, but come meeting him in Omega he was all vulnerable and sad...and suddenly I wanted to cuddle a giant lizard. I'm not into that sort of thing, (not a turian fetishist =P) so I have mixed feelings on whether or not they should have shown some hawt alien lovin'.

I just get the feeling that the writers weren't quite comfortable writing FemShep/Garrus romance. I thought the interactions were cute, but really really awkward. In fact, I'm left feeling like my FemShep guilted Garrus into a relationship. (When you hit on him he's all awkward and agrees because your his "only friend" left. And then during the scene he is like "I want something to go right..just once" etc.) But that could just be me. I guess the awkwardness could be because Garrus is super badass in all ways but relationships (like a cooler Alistair). But yeah, I think FemShep kissing him on the cheek some "romantic" cheek caresses would have been less awkward than the headbump. He also seemed shaped...differently? I guess I'm the type who says "leave the armor on baby" or something.

On the other hand, I don't know how I'd feel about a sexually charged sparring scene. I mean, male Shep got the passionate scenes and femShep got the emo scenes...

I still think we're sort of being punished/teased (and not in the satisfying way) given the brevity of the Garrus&Tali scenes.

Thane probably got the best writing out of all the love interests. Fishman is smooth. Also emo.

Forget the kiss on the cheek. I now want a sexually charged sparring match. *nods* Okay, okay, followed by cuddling and cheek-kissing and hugging. :P

The clothes are bulky for a reason.

If we wanted to get real nasty about it, you could argue that those hip bones have a uniquely convenient quality IF YA KNO WHADDA MEAN.

I really wish I could regret writing that last statement.

OK, a sparring match would have been hot, but maybe that's just me.
Having no idea what naked turians look like, I think an actual sex scene might have been very weird. Like "I didn't expect *that* to be *there."

I don't know, I expected a bit more bravado from him. It was cool when he commented on how you couldn't resist his scars or how stylish he was. This way I just feel like my femShep took advantage of poor emotionally vulnerable Garrus. (I have no friends. I'm about to die. The only person who cares about me is Shepherd and she wants sex, so I guess I'll have to do it because I don't want to let her down.)
Yeah. I feel guilty. Damnit Bioware, was that your intention????
I love Garrus, but I might have to switch to Thane. Though that seems like a poor long-term investment.

*EDIT:  Above post fixes my naked turian quandary.  I guess it wouldn't bother me, but doesn't he look...less sleek in Shepherd's room?  He looks too skinny in some places and too bulky in others.

Maybe I jsut like to complain.

Are you kidding? Garrus practically pounced at the opportunity. XD It wasn't until he thought about it some more that he became nervous, and that was more because he was concerned with Shepard being sure of it. :P

A few items of interest I haven't seen anybody mention:

Did anybody else realize you can infect him with the plague on Omega if you bring him to pick up Mordin? Felt like the galaxy's worst commander, but it's such a neat detail. He has a few good lines there, too. "At some point in my life, I got used to the smell of burning bodies...that's probably bad." "Is it hot in here...? *cough cough* Oh, that's not good."

Also, there's an advertisement pole next to Space Gamestop that freaked me the hell out; I was on my new game+, hadn't romanced anyone yet. I was listening to the ads and there was a certain line of interest: "Shepherd, a woman of your beauty deserves the best in biotic amps. Next time you're out on the town with Officer Vakarian, choose Sirta." I was like OH GOD GAME IS READING MY MIND.

And thirdly: Garrus's father hates the Spectres for their lack of accountability. What do you think he thinks of vigilantism?

I think there's a reason why Garrus went out of his way to get out of Council space after ME1 in order to pursue his idea of dishing out justice, in addition to the fact that he'd have a lot more Mercs to snipe in ther Terminus Systems. I doubt Papa Vakarian is very happy with his son's choices in life... :?

Just rewatched the video. It seemed pretty clear he had to think about it and that his reason was there was no one he respected more than Shepherd. Which isn't a bad foundation for a relationship, but an odd one. (Just rubs me like "I look up to you b/c you're a hero...I guess I can't say no.")

Maybe it wasn't their intent, but b/c of the questionable status (Garrus + femShep = love or very good friends with very interesting benefits?) I'm not sure. You don't get any talk about emotions. Only respect and friendship. And no actual confirmation of sex. For all we know, Garrus spent those two hours crying.

Wait, that was someone else. :P

Edit:  Oh God.  I remember someone else bringing up a speculative "meet the parents" sort of deal with Garrus is father in ME3.  "Hi Dad, I'm a vigilante who's dating human Spectre."  *sound of turian head exploding*

Want so badly to meet Garrus's Dad. WANT.

It should really be in the game. It's an interesting conversation no matter what kind of Shepard you played: Male, Female, romance or not... even if you got him killed in the suicide mission, it'd be a conversation to remember.

He's gonna hate you no matter what. I'd just like to see it with a *little* more hate because, oh yeah, we're in love. Who knows, we might just raise adopted vigilante babies and teach them to defy the law. Suck on that. XD

You're overthinking it in the wrong direction. :P Garrus thought about it for about one line and his knee-jerk reaction was "hells yeah."  His knee-jerk justification? He doesn't respect anyone else more.  Respect isn't a bad foundation for a relationship, especially when it's the knee-jerk justification. ;)

Then he thinks about it and his concern is if Shepard's sure she wants this.  He STILL jumps at the opportunity if she is.  She's his friend and he's doing this for "us," not for any human fetish (which does speak a lot for how deeply he feels for her).  Let's see...deep respect and solid friendship as foundations for their relationship? Yeah, I'm not seeing any problems here. B)

Frankly, none of the LI's have any "real" confirmation of having sex.  It's always "fade to black" and then allusions to it.  Garrus/Shep are no different, but they certainly weren't talking about "hugging" when they spoke of "blowing off steam," and Mordin's advice certainly took it a step further.  Then when Garrus tries so hard to make it go right in the last romance scene...yeah...again...they aren't looking for just some cuddle time. :P

The entire romance arch is replete with emotion.  Garrus doesn't have to break down sobbing and throwing things around, he's incredibly emotional throughout without crossing the border into caricature-ville. ^^

And omg, I want a papa-Vakarian/Garrus/Shepard reunion/guess who's coming for dinner.  It would be epic and emotional in so many ways.

I've seen the plague one and my reaction was the same as Garrus': "Oh, that's not good."  Thankfully it takes a week for the plague to kill you...I knew I'd have the cure distributed before then, and Mordin boosted his immune system anyway, so all was good.

But I haven't seen the ad where they mention Garrus...I must go find it!

For the third point: Not only did Garrus quit C-Sec and become a vigilante, but he dropped off the map without telling a soul what he was doing, took a missile to the face, joined a newly-revived once-dead Spectre, and is now in an intimate relationship with her.  Yeah, this is going to be good. :police:

Papa Vakarian is probably very old, senile and need big pair of glasses to see in front of himself also he doesn't hear well so his reaction on femshep would probably be like: Finally you found some chick, she is nice turian, congratz my son, I am so proud of you, I would hit it too...

I hope so...otherwise would be bad lol I guess...

If we ever get one of those meet-the-parents scenarios, I'd like to see spacer mom Hannah Shepard's reaction.

Hannah: Whatever happened to that nice boy Kaidan Alenko?

Shepard: He wasn't any good at saving that last shot before popping the heat sink.

I fiddled with it for a bit (to get out of 'overhearing' convos quick, overhear something else; Gamestop salarian is good for that) and figured it names whatever LI you have in your party (if you have none, it just trails off past 'out on the town...'), whether or not you've actually started their romance. Still, hearing it for the first time made me go FFFFFFFF

For the most awkward possible scenario, imagine Femshep is a Spacer. Military parents, probably fought in First Contact War = oh god do you think we can just fake our deaths and go fight crime?

Wewt! Finally finished the game! Garrus as my LI of course, still bummed out by how short his scene is though. Everyone survived except for half of the Normandy crew members (whoops my bad, had to do Legion's loyalty quest and buy some crap from illium; kelly died lol). I'm going to have to play through a new game though because I let Garrus shoot Sidonis 'cause for some weird reason I thought I would fail the loyalty mission if I didn't let him take the shot... Oh well, another full game of our favorite Turian goodness.

Shepard parents vs the Vakarians, Smackdown RAW.  Would be awesome. *nods*

Points for an exasperated femShep and Garrus giving up to go spend some quality "personal time" together while the family works out their differences. *snickers*

I suppose I'm cynical. I saw the maleShep/Miranda (she strips), renegade maleShep/Jack (they throw each other around), and femShep/Jacob the ABS MAN (to a lesser degree) as far more sexually charged. Tali pouncing on maleShep pretty much confirms their relationship. Even Thane gets smoochies. Comparatively speaking, Garrus doesn't get nearly as much love, which makes me wonder where Bioware is going with this (did they begrudgingly do this to appease the fangirls?).  Plus the problems Mordin lists. Garrus/FemShep and Tali/MaleShep are pretty hard to consummate.  I think Garrus might be harder because of that whole anaphylactic shock thing.  I'll pretend Salarians don't expect friction from their intercourse (do they fertilize eggs outside the body like frogs or something?).  But yeah, they make it very difficult to...yeah.

The Garrus relationship feels too...up in the air. He's a friend who wouldn't mind blowing off steam with femShepherd, but on the same token, at times it seems like he doesn't have an attraction toward her. (Like he isn't sure what to compliment? Or is that he likes bits of her appearance but can't say it? Not sure.) He definitely a loyal friend who respects femShep, but it doesn't quite feel as complete as the others. Which makes me wonder.

They start off talking like friends with benefits, and then they agree they respect each other too much to take this lightly. But they don't really go any further, which might just be in character for Garrus.

Eradyn, I really really want femShep/Garrus love, but seeing how Bioware handled all the other ones, I'm feeling quite awkward about it.

Edited to cite other LI scenes.

I can see it now...

So Garrus and Shepard arrive at Papa Vakarian's house a few hours late for
dinner....

Papa Vakarian: Garrus, you're late, and you've brought a human with
you! *glances at food* Awww sh.....

Midway through dinner.....

Papa: So Garrus, why'd you bring a human with you? Is she your personal
assistant or something?

Garrus: Actually dad, I have something to tell you....

I'm seeing her....

*Papa Vakarian spews dextro-wine everywhere*

Papa: I *cough* I see. Well she is quite the woman. What is your name miss?

Garrus: Oh Christ.......

Shepard: I'm Commander Shepard *cough*, I'm with the *cough* Alliance.

Papa Vakarian: You're the human Spectre. Garrus WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING
BRINGING A SPECTRE TO MY HOUSE!!!

Garrus: Dad, it's alright, you don't have to worry. I've just taken her to
dinner a few...

*Shepard collapses*

Papa Vakarian: Oh God, call someone!

*Garrus calls Mordin, relays symptoms, all while on speakerphone*

Mordin: Interesting! Inability to breath, hives, convulsions, sounds like acute
anaphylactic shock caused by exposure to dextro-amino elements. You
haven't.......

Papa Vakarian: You son of a....

I think that if the 2 squad members you take with you to the final battle aren't loyal, they die. If that's the case, then there is no one to pull you on to the shuttle except Joker...but he can't do it. So Shepard lets go and dies.

With that theory, only 2 squad mates need to die for Shepard to die at the end.

Also, I always let Garrus shoot Sidonis. You can milk some dialogue out of it and hear about how Sidonis can't sleep anymore but then you can still take the path that leads to Garrus shooting him. That path is my favorite.
