Also, I know I must be in the minority here, but I am violently opposed to even the thought of hybrid kids. The Garrus romance can really skirt into Mary Sue/bad fanfic territory if the devs let it. It's arguably a little bit that way anyway. I don't think they intended to do it from the beginning. They are just catering to fans, but I want them to do so responsibly in a way that makes sense for their universe and for the character. This is also why I'm not crazy about the idea of a "space wedding" or any kind of formalized long-term commitment with Garrus (and most of the other LIs.) I just don't think it's in character for him. Frankly, I even think the phrase "I love you" would be a little much for Garrus. I don't think he's cold or anything. I just don't think he's sentimental. He's not like Thane whose going to break down and really show you some softer side. "I want something to go right. Just once..." That's about as soft as I ever want Garrus to get. He's badass dipped in awesome sauce. Dorky and nervous on occasion I can buy a little, but mushy and sentimental...I couldn't buy it.

But even Batman, in the recent Paul Dini run of Detective Comics (which is made of win, btw) , admitted to Catwoman that she was the only woman he ever loved.  To ask for something similar out of Garrus, our resident ME-Batman, I think is completely in-character dependent upon your Paragon/Renegade leanings.

Nah.  He'd still stay sexy.  He's far too active to ever gain weight that isn't muscle.  On that note, is it just me or did he gain a noticeable amount of muscle mass between 1 and 2?  Maybe it's just the armor but I could swear he looks bigger even in clothing.

I've compared stills of him in ME2, ME1, plus other turians including in civvie clothes, and Garrus is definitely the biggest (literally), baddest turian around B)

OK last clarification on this: Despite everything I've said I'd prefer to keep any weddings, kids, families, hybrid spawn, etc. in the post-ME3 fanfic/fanart world. I'm not talking about all this like I actually want Bioware to put it in there. It's not meant for that part of the story. It's Shepard's Epilogue, her post-story.

I don't know why, but I see Shepard developing a new obsession after the reapers, just to keep on exploring the galaxy and be badass. She doesn't seem to be the kind of person to stay in one place without having things around her explode or going into killing sprees.

not the family type and she was made too much of an action woman to stay at home and take care of kids or hybrids...hurians XD

I think I recall a long thread about hybrid children about a month ago...the general concensus being "IMPOSSIBLE."

But I care not. If'n my Shep got her bio-clock a-ticking, she'd adopt. Human, Turian, Krogan...most likely Krogan because damn, Grunt is adorable. Then again, it's even more unlikely she'd be able to adopt a Krogan considering their breeding troubles...Hm. Going off on a tangent. Better stop.

Although I would hate it, I can hardly think of a better end to Shep's story than a tragic one. Janissary "Jane" Shepard is going to go out like a big goddamn hero!

Gah, I can see it now: Shep heading towards the light as Garrus embraces her already limp body. She pulls him close and with her last breath says, "Like...fresh snow, Garrus...like fresh snow."

EDIT: Btw, I love this and this.

I agree. I don't  think a declaration of love or commitment necessarily has to involve a huge display of mushy sappiness and fireworks and flowers and chocolates and whatever. I was actually thinking just the other day about how Garrus might go about telling Shepard that he loved her, and I think that if he were ever to do it, he definitely wouldn't  make a big production out of it -- no deep, chick-flick-like soulful gazing into her eyes, or whatever. I could see him just dropping it on her almost casually and offhandedly in some completely non-romantic situation, like in the thick of a battle or while doing something mundane like grocery shopping.

On the other hand, maybe I think too much about this stuff. :P In any case, all that to say that I don't think "tough and badass" has to automatically equate to "never ever talks about feelings at all ever." Because honestly, if it did, that would be kinda boring in my book.

Garrus: Shepard, I care so much for you...more than the three gangs put together.

Shepard: That's so sweet Garrus. Now let's go find ourselves some gangs to shoot.

Considering it's Shepard, there's nothing MORE romantic than that. <3

If you're in the minority, I'm there too. Not only do I think hybridization is impossible, even if it weren't, just... no. Do not want.

Plus, even if possible through science, it would mean Shep and Garrus would have to make the conscious decision to build themselves a freak of nature (come on, you know that's how the galaxy would see it). I don't see either of them deciding they need a love child so much that they're willing to put in the effort, the money and the time into it, knowing it will put the kid through a lifetime of discrimination and hate.

Personally, I'm totally one of those settle down and have kids types. I just don't think FemShep and Garrus are.

As for the 'I love you' thing, I'm inclined to agree. I don't think Garrus is the type to express his feelings, and I think that's kind of a turian thing. Like, look at Septimus and how he was obviously and desperately in love with Sha'ira but IIRC, the word love was never even mentioned.

Personally, I think the perfect 'confession' scene would have both of them playing it cool with a 'you know I...' 'yeah, I know.' Like Han Solo! :D

... Although, I concede that the idea of him just blurting it out while they're in the middle of a firefight is adorable.

YES this.  Shepard's story past ME3 should be decided by the player.  That's what fanworks are for.

As for Garrus saying the big three words, I have a hard time imagining him saying it without being prompted.  For me, Shepard would have to say it first, because we all know how unsure and awkward he is (and AH LUV EET that way.) It strikes me that he'd realize he was in love with Shepard at some point, but keep it to himself on the logic that it would make things awkward if she didn't feel the same.  Actually, now that I really think about it I can't imagine him saying it at all.  The Movie In My Mind has Shepard calmly confessing in some high-risk situation, Garrus being surprised for a second, then he catches her in an aggressive embrace.  I can't really see him saying it too. (But I shall hope for it nonetheless!!!)

Kids?  IRL I'm not totally opposed to them (They annoy me, but I've heard tell it's different when they're yours) but in the game I could be open to adoption in the couple's future.  2/3 Shepard backgrounds have her growing up without parents, I think she'd by sympathetic to any orphans they run into on their Spectre Adventures.  After all, if Garrus is Batman then he'd probably be OK with a Robin. (....You know what, pay no attention to me.  I just really want my Shepard to hug a young Salarian. This is becoming an odd obsession with me. Wonder where it came from.)

Again though: IN FANWORKS.  I don't want Bioware telling me exactly how their story ends, leave that to my brain.

Edit: fixed a typo

It's funny, I was just thinking about this famous scene as it pertains to the ME2 romance arcs. A lot of the romance arcs are written somewhat ambiguously, so there's room for interpretation about the depth of Shepard's feelings. And I think a lot of people want at least the option to play things in ME3 more seriously (maybe no wedding or kids, but an unambiguous display of feeling.)

So Han Solo is the cool science-fiction action hero at the end of Empire, in Jedi his facade cracks a bit (and it's Leia's turn to play it cool.) It would be interesting to see them do the same thing with Shepard (especially since Shepard, either gender, usually has to be the calm, emotional center. And can you just hear Garrus's "I know you do." ...I need to go recruit Garrus now, lol.)

I'm all for an interspecies romance, but the second hybrid kids are brought into the picture it starts entering squick territory for me, almost like MPreg fanfiction.  My mind immediately goes to that South Park PETA-themed episode, with the human/ostrich baby.  Image IPB

Edit: Love the Star Wars idea, but who else here thinks that it would be FemShep who says the "I know" line?  Image IPB

LMAO.

And...this is where I think it would be a good time to stop discussing hybrid babies.

On the topic of the 3 magical words, I have a hard time imagining either of them saying it comfortably. On the other hand, I can easily see them each doing something for the other that transcends the use of words.

Maybe Garrus will try his hand at making Shep some levo-safe ramen - it's a human delicacy, after all. She would probably eat it happily and comment that it "tastes like cardboard" with a smile. As for Shepard? She'd likely want to give her man a gift, but Garrus seems like a tough guy to shop for. I forsee a shiny new scouter in his future.

I dunno. Just little things that say it without having to actually say it.

I digress. I agree, Shep would definitely take up the Han Solo role and say, "I know."

I don't really attribute Garrus with being standoffish when it comes to his feelings.  Even back in ME1 I thought he was pretty candid with Shep (we all remember that "I've...never met anyone like you, Shepard" line!).  I can easily picture in my head (ahhh, sweet imagination) and cute little scene where he pulls her aside during a moment of calm in the final fight and blurts out with a cute, desperate, and awkward "We might both die here but I DONE LUVS YA, WOMAN!".

I'm throwing that into the bin that says "I would pay mad money to hear Brandon Keener say this as Garrus."

I think our opinions are so different partly because we all have different ideas of what or whatnot FemShep would do.  My FemShep would have no problem telling Garrus her feelings, but would be more prone to teasing him into making the confession first.  I'd really like to see in ME3 a progression from an Awkard!Garrus into a more relaxed, comfortable relationship where they could both freely and openly throw out the L-word, chamber a round, and jump into a firefight like the badasses they are.

This looks really, really good.
And this FemShep actually has a working knowledge of hair accessories, unlike in-game FemShep.
