It was that time aaaaaaaages ago.

I dunno about the three words. I mean, maybe turians don't place as much emphasis on the phrase. Or maybe it's a Sam Wheat "ditto" thing. I think the important thing here is that the love is there and felt by FemShep and Garrus. I didn't get a vibe of love from the Jacob romance. I got a "I'm dying and taking joy where I can" kind of love from the Thane romance. But the Garrus romance, like the Tali romance, is just all kinds of pure love. No conditions. It just is.

And depending on an individual's Shepard, the three words don't need to be said, because every time we load the game, those characters are saying "I love you".

zomg Aris, beautiful!! I especially loved how you softened up the hairstyle - FemShep in-game always looks so severe with her hair up. Fantastic job - if I weren't on my shared work computer this would be my wallpaper.

Edit: Oh wait, nevermind, those are his fingers and not a hair tie!  Image IPB  Love it, though.

Ha ha. Maybe that should be something new in the OP. A list of "lines we would pay money for Brandon Keener to say as Garrus"

I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite idea in the thread.

LMAO.

And...this is where I think it would be a good time to stop discussing hybrid babies.

On the topic of the 3 magical words, I have a hard time imagining either of them saying it comfortably. On the other hand, I can easily see them each doing something for the other that transcends the use of words.

Maybe Garrus will try his hand at making Shep some levo-safe ramen - it's a human delicacy, after all. She would probably eat it happily and comment that it "tastes like cardboard" with a smile. As for Shepard? She'd likely want to give her man a gift, but Garrus seems like a tough guy to shop for. I forsee a shiny new scouter in his future.

I dunno. Just little things that say it without having to actually say it.

I digress. I agree, Shep would definitely take up the Han Solo role and say, "I know."

I think our opinions are so different partly because we all have different ideas of what or whatnot FemShep would do.  My FemShep would have no problem telling Garrus her feelings, but would be more prone to teasing himinto making the confession first.  I'd really like to see in ME3 a progression from an Awkard!Garrus into a more relaxed, comfortable relationship where they could both freely and openly throw out the L-word, chamber a round, and jump into a firefight like the badasses they are.

This is the beauty of the games Bioware makes, I think. The character you play as is always your own.

Since we were on the subject of sappy feelings (and to give this thread a bump for great justice!), I hope that in ME3 there might be a conversation where Garrus discusses his feelings about your death. Since it's mostly established at this point that he was not on the Normandy during the Collector attack - and since your death apparently spurred his decision to quit C-Sec/Spectre training - I can't imagine there not being some deep, angsty feelings lurking there.

Yes, please! I wanted more people talking about your death. But not in an accusatory Horizon way. "HOW DARE YOU DIE??" ... Laaaame.

lol @ Xalena! Believe me, you don't want to see me butchering turian anatomy with a shirtless Garrus. I have a hard enough time with human chests and limbs.

Part of me says, yes, please.  I was talking to my brother about this this other day, why no one seems to talk about how traumatizing the death of Commander Shepard might've been for the crew (let alone for Shepard herself, but let's leave that).  Everyone on the Normandy was pretty much 100% loyal to Shepard by the end. It must've been tough for everyone, but we only ever got to really see Liara and the human survivor's reactions.  I'd love to find out exactly what was going through Garrus, Tali, and Wrex's heads when they heard/realized that Shepard was really gone. (...I realize Wrex would never talk about this, but deep down inside I know it affected him on at least some level, even if it wasjust  pity for the fact she died without being able to fight back. Wrex, if he survives Virmire, holds tremendous respect for Shepard as a fellow warrior.).  Now that Garrus is a LI I'd like to hear it even more.

On the other hand, I can't see it happening.  Maybe it's just me, but I got the impression that Bioware was trying to sweep the whole "Shepard DIED" thing under the rug, since we didn't see too many significant reactions in this game.  Like they just pulled it out for ME2, and now they just want us to forget it and focus on the Reapers (and let's face it, that's a pretty damn pressing concern.)

I also found it odd that Tali and Garrus seemed so unaffected by Shepard's sudden revival. Tali seemed shocked at first but then got over it amazingly fast. Garrus barely seemed phased at all.

Also, I know I must be in the minority here, but I am violently opposed to even the thought of hybrid kids. The Garrus romance can really skirt into Mary Sue/bad fanfic territory if the devs let it. It's arguably a little bit that way anyway. I don't think they intended to do it from the beginning. They are just catering to fans, but I want them to do so responsibly in a way that makes sense for their universe and for the character. This is also why I'm not crazy about the idea of a "space wedding" or any kind of formalized long-term commitment with Garrus (and most of the other LIs.) I just don't think it's in character for him. Frankly, I even think the phrase "I love you" would be a little much for Garrus. I don't think he's cold or anything. I just don't think he's sentimental. He's not like Thane whose going to break down and really show you some softer side. "I want something to go right. Just once..." That's about as soft as I ever want Garrus to get. He's badass dipped in awesome sauce. Dorky and nervous on occasion I can buy a little, but mushy and sentimental...I couldn't buy it.

As for Garrus not mentioning the past LI if you cheated...I just wish there was all around more acknowledgement of your LI choice by other squaddies.  I guess DAO spoiled me in this capacity.  I love how nuanced the response to your LI choice was in that game.

"I love you" wouldn't bother me at all. I don't think it would be out of character for any of the love interests to say it (at least not after a certain point). I mean, what's the problem? It's a simple 3-letter-phrase that adequately expresses one person's deeper feelings towards another. I guess it's just me but I don't see it as a mushy thing at all. I actually thought it was great that Alistair tells it to you flat-out in DA:O. I liked the fact that he wasn't afraid to say it. He didn't need to pretty it up either; he just said it matter-of-factly, no BS or dancing around it, and it was such a pleasant surprise. I don't enjoy it when men are cowards about their feelings.

I wouldn't want or expect Garrus to say it all the time, or even often. But once wouldn't hurt. Even badasses have an emotional side. I don't view Garrus as being one of those "I'm too badass to show my emotions!" kind of characters. And frankly, I wouldn't mind if the Garrus romance in ME3 (if it exists) focused more on feelings and less on their sex life.

I wouldn't want a space wedding either. Maybe some kind of formalized long-term commitment would be okay--I mean, why not? If it's quick and convenient and makes living arrangements easier, then sure. They don't plan to break up anyway (at least in my universe they sure as hell aren't going to). But not a traditional "wedding" in the usual sense that we think of it. It just wouldn't fit.

I'm with you on the kids though. Hybrid children is just ridiculous.

Hell, you don't even get it from Joker unless you die in the final mission of ME2. Joker's all "You tell them! You're not doing this to me again, Commander!" as he tries to pull you onto the Normandy. So heart breaking...

Especially following the survival of the suicide mission, I would love to hear this discussion with Garrus. But, much like having either Garrus or Shep say "I love you," I doubt Bioware will deliver such a conversation. That's not to say "they suck," though. Because...you know. Garrusmance.

That's the problem with the Garrusmance. You get just enough to feel warm and fuzzy, but are still left wanting with little gurantees more will come. Le sigh.

I can imagine them writing up a scenario for the ME1 LI's where they get to discuss this issue - but unfortunately I don't know if the same would be done for Garrus & Tali since the time for such a discussion is debatably passed (seriously, it should have been a dialogue option instead of the constant calibrations!).

Perhaps, dependent upon how epic the final fight is (and I'm sure it will indeed be epic) we might hope for a "I can't lose you again" sort of line, but then again that might be a too cheese-tastic.  Image IPB  Honestly, I don't even care if it's a romantic context - I'd just like to know what my friends feel about me showing up after my sudden case of death.  I don't know about your friends, but mine would at least express some amount of shock & delight.  This is one of my big problems with the reunion scenes with Garrus & Tali, actually.

Oooh, don't even get me started on Joker!  Did anyone else get irritated that he failed to acknowledge the fact that you DIED saving his crippled butt??  I was actually hoping that my death would be the moment for some development to his character - some hint of something more underneath that constantly sarcastic exterior - but I suppose that's a conversation for another thread.  (And don't get me wrong, I still like Joker.)

We don't speak blasphemy here.:P

No, It'd be great if Garrus was a man about his feelings, I just think that it's unlikely from what we've seen of his behavior around Shepard so far.  He could still go through some growing up in ME3, hell, look at the leaps and bounds he took between 1 and 2.

....Although in the end, I'm still always going to be a sucker for his hilarious awkardness.  :wub:That was what really sold the romance for me personally, because in reality (...for me at least...) relationships can get pretty awkward. Add another species into the equation, and hot damn that is just some embarrassing territory.  The fact that he works past his nervousness because he cares about Shepard that much just makes me  love him more. I'd miss it if that part of his personality vanished altogether, but eventually a little more confidence is necessary.  I don't want him to be a 16-year-old on his first date forever. :D

I know what you mean, it's conflicting. Part of us wants him to stay an embarassed teenager in his first releationship, and the other half wants him to be a total stud. Poor Garrus, he has so much expected of him.

His entire romance scene was near perfection, really.  When he put on that Flux music I was actually embarassed for him (I totally facepalmed), and when the hell does a video game ever elicit that kind of response?
In fact, they should have had a Renegade-interrupt facepalm! Image IPB
