Oh man though, Legion, Mordin and Garrus?  My brain just exploded.  I don't really do action figures, but...damn.  That is sorely tempting. I guess I'd have to see what they look like.

Guys and gals, they just announced at Toyfair 2010 (the big action figure showcase before Comic Con in the Summer) that they'll be making a Garrus action figure in the second wave of the ME2 toys.

Go to your local comic shop and pre-order when they're solicited in Diamond, folks!

I havn't bought a "toy" per say in like... 6 years (the closest thing I've bought is Warhammer 40k thingies). But I'm totally buying a Garrus figure. It's like... you have to. You can't physically NOT buy a Garrus figure.

Hey guys. I just got finished reading an MSNBC article about romance in Bioware's latest games. It's actually very well researched and written, and comes with a poll on who you would like to romance most. Garrus is rather low in the poll, but the Talispammers have launched her into the lead. I figured, we can do that too right? So go for it.

http://technology-sc...ost-like-to-woo

Problem with this poll is they throw in DA:O in there was well, if they stuck to one game or the other the results might me more consistent.  As is, dividing the votes between two completely different game skews the final result.

@ prolefeed.  hmmm. Very good observations.  (Though Krogans might still be capable of love, Charr sure loved his Blue Rose of Illium ;) ) I think you are generally right, but I'm also glad you pointed out that there will likely always be individuals who are exceptions to the rule, like Septimus.  It's still possible that turians could practice marriage-esque monogamy (I don't believe the codex has ever specified?), but, as you said, perhaps it would fall lower in the hierarchy of turian social institutions and responsibilities than it does in human ones.  For example in human cultures marriage has often been sanctified in religious systems which gives it further gravitas.  Turians might never have associated it with spiritual life.

But again, there will always be those rogue individuals.  I believe the codex says that sometimes turians who don't embrace or assimilate into the system well aren't really punished, they just never rise through the ranks.  But maybe a rare, socially rebellious turian who allows himself to elevate love above duty simply wouldn't care, he'd accept his fate.  Or, perhaps Septimus waited until he was getting on in years and had risen to a high position to start daring to let his emotions win the battle sometimes.  Garrus himself has already shown his willingness to buck the system and give rules the finger.  He left the military (that most turian of institutions), he wanted to be a Spectre, he couldn't stand C-Sec's structured environment, and he's gallavanting around with a human half the galaxy sees as brave but probably a little crazy, trying to "save the galaxy."  I think he's probably capable of loving Shepard, but I have to vote with those that think he wouldn't say it out loud very often, and then *never* over a candle-lit dinner.  I like the heat-of-battle idea, personally :)

Oh, I forgot about Charr. Very true,

I don't know, part of me likes the idea of Garrus telling Shepard he loves her after Shepard does something particularly badass, to the effect of:

Shepard: *punches out a Krogan*
Garrus: I love you.

But heat-of-battle confessions tend to be more of the "I think I may soon die" sort, and those I just don't like. 1) because they involve the possibility of DEATH :crying: and 2) I think it generally feels forced.

Personally, my favorite sort of confession is just the random, out of the blue casual-but-not-really outburst.

Shepard: Hey, Garrus, do you have time to talk, or are you busy calibrating?
Garrus: Oh, I've got time. No use trying to program commands until we get everything fixed up in port, anyway. That crash landing on the Collector ship really did a number on the weapons balance.
Shepard: I told Joker to take us to a planet with a good repair crew to fix her up. I have no idea what he picked, though.
Garrus: Knowing Joker, probably a place that also has good bars. By the way, I love you.
Shepard: D-What?

Yeah, same here...I'm so hyped that's its those three, especially Garrus of course. :D

For reference, here are shots of the first series. They're pretty good. I'm usually really picky about faces but it's a lot harder to screw up non-human faces...or Tali. lol

December is SO far away. :crying: At least I'll have Tali and Thane in the meantime, but it's just not the same...

Ha ha. I find both of those ideas infinitely appealing in their own way.

Here's an interesting thought: What if the way you interacted with your LI (paragon vs. renegeade etc.) had an impact on how they told you about their feelings (if they did at all?) Like in your example, if you're a total badass it happens after doing a badass move, or if you're more paragon it happens during a more casual encounter.

I've got Tali, Thane, and Grunt pre-ordered, as well as the next 2 issues of Redemption. I haven't spent this much money on a franchise since Star Wars.

Personally I see Garrus as the kind of person who doesn't ever really say "I love you". But there are times when you just know:

*Just before they leave for some battle*

Garrus: *Pulls Shepard into a hug and forehead touches*

Shepard: *Closes her eyes, then pulls away* Let's go.

Garrus: Right behind you

You can just feel the unspoken emotion between the two. Or at least that's how I see it

I guess I might be an outlier.  I can definitely imagine Garrus saying those three magical words during a candlelight dinner, if only because by then maybe he's done his research on courtship practices for once!  Also, my inner, overly romantic fanboi would explode into messy bits with joy.  But really, I see Garrus and Shepard talking about each other, and their relationship and you get something like:

Shepard: We'll get through this Garrus.  I know we will because I've got you with me.  As long as you're here, I know we can do this.
Garrus: I know, it's just that, if anything happened to you.  Shepard I...I think I love you.

I think you're on to something with that one. Given the sort of vibe between the two, that just sounds... right.

I'm pretty sure my Earthborn Soul Survivor FemShep couldn' t handle those words anyway.  She's generally a paragon, but her temper gets the better of her too often.  So the above is more likely.  She probably never even said those words to Alenko, either.  I mean, she was up and dressed and out of the bed before he even woke up.

@siltsonata: Yeah, exactly what I thought. What I meant about Liara is that she managed to establish her goals and continue with her life better than Alenko did -I believed that because of the reception of Shepard after 2 years. Liara minded her own business and didn't make any scene as Alenko did.

If you think about it, the whole Alenko-Shepard-Garrus, it would be awesome if Garrus acknowledged his "devotion" to Shepard from ME1, bordering love. At least, it was how I saw the relationship back then. There was something going on, but it was self-limited to companionship, even more if the commander had a relationship with another crew member. Now that he's got a chance to make it meaningful, to water their feelings, it would be not out of character at all for him to put up a fight, always stylishly, of course. (In my universe) he was already split up with Shepard when she died, when it still was surreptitious and unspoken, too much close a friendship, and lost his chance. To me, his derailment after the loss of the commander makes more sense this way, understanding their first quest together as the beginning of a loyalty and trust beyond what is usual among soldiers. It's about time he risks to get out of his shell and speaks openly =)

Btw: I think we've got a great thread, but it'll be always overwhelmed by the number of male-players who fancy other LIs. It'd be nice to see the amount of players of both genres, but I don't think it'll be a surprise to find out that they've got the numbers -and we Garrus' reach!

But I'm a male who fancys Garrus! Granted I'm not straight so I'm sure I don't count. However I'm still supporting the femaleshep/garrus combo anyway, so that counts for something, right? You may not have all the males supporting you, but you certainly have the support of the gay ones like myself :P

That being said, yes it's hard to compete with straight males for LI's, but that's really a given. And let's not forget Garrus is also the most exotic and distinctly 'alien' species in the game, so we're fighting more of an uphill battle than anyone else right out of the starting gate

Not only that, he's a member of humanity's biggest competitor/former enemy in Citadel Space.

Lends a bit of Romeo and Juliet to FemShep and Garrus, don't you think?

Even funnier is that my co-worker started the whole thing, but he could not get it right to save his life.  He'd say something like:
Yummy: I love mojitos.
And it's like, gah!  "Yummy" is not an emotion!

Oh, hm. Gee, normally I'd totally agree, but in the case of mojitos, I can see the word evolving to fit the bill. Though:

"Blissful declaration: I love mojitos." flies a lot better. :D

Yeah, but our Romeo and our Juliet don't give a **** about what the human and turian government, military and press think. ;)

It would be nice if the reporter Al Jilani made some comment about it. You could punch her a third time, or for the first time if you've been saving it like me xD. Also, on the other hand, being interviewed by Emily Wong could be interesting as well. She could provide the positive point of view, you know.

I wanted to punch her (in fact, I did but reloaded), but I liked the recitation of all the ships that died saving the Citadel so much more.

And no, our Romeo and Juliet couldn't give a quad about the Alliance or the Turian government or anyone else's opinion.

As far as 'can aliens feel love' um. In this setting? Totally, duh, and yes, Salarians can feel love. They just don't do marriage and most male/female Salarian pairings (per the Codex) tend to resemble normal human friendships. There's the Salarian with his Asari step-daughter, worrying that he's on the wrong side of 30 and wanting to make sure his Asari lover remembers him when he's gone. Charr's been mentioned.

Garrus declares his love for his rifle often enough that I'm pretty sure turians not only know the feeling but they have a properly-translated word for it.

Yeah, they are just a very disciplined military society. They are expected to be professional, serious, rational...

Now that I think of it, that aspect of their society can be a huge turn on... For some people... you know...

It'd be nice to have Admiral Hackett actually tell you what the reaction to that interview is back home. He says it the first time! Second time just seems put there so you can punch her in the face if you only wished you could do it the first time.

Hehe.  Well, remember, Turians have tremendous personal freedoms, as long as it doesn't interfere with work.  Things that are normally heavily frowned upon in human society are open game for them, like drug use.
