Lol, Garrus line I hadn't heard until just now: when you enter the offline Collector ship (the one where TIM set you up) he says "I love what they've done with the place."
Hehehehe. See? That's why I can't be too mad at Bioware for shortchanging us in the conversation department - Garrus has to be the most chatty squadmate, and everything he says is hysterical! He always had that little glimmer of humor in ME1 but it was such a welcome relief against the relatively mopey background of the other ME2 characters.

Garrus is remarkably well-adjusted in spite of all the crap he's had to go through. That he has retained his wit and humor is refreshing and one of the many reasons I have him tag along with me everywhere.

Granted, Garrus would probably be able to seal the rupture just by glaring at it, but still!

My point is, I'm not sure Turians actually have the human concept of "love." Or, at least, they don't understand it as we do. Many people define love as "one person being the most important thing to you in the world," or something to that effect. A Turian concept of love would probably be something more along the lines of "the individual you most enjoy spending time with."
I'm pretty certain that turians know what love is and are capable of feeling it just as strongly as humans. Their culture may favor duty over love, but that doesn't mean that love doesn't exist. I'd be preeeetty mad if we Garrus fans didn't get anything meaningful and fulfilling out of the romance in ME3 just because he's an alien. He is capable of feeling and conveying just about every human emotion I can think of...happyness, anger, anxiety, surprise, etc. It would be ridiculous if the writers suddenly decided that "love" was out of the question.
I presume that, as far as aliens are concerned, most parts of their culture that are not specifically pointed out are actually quite similar to human culture. I remember a dev stating that turian lifespans, for example, are not mentioned because they are more or less the same as humans (which makes me quite happy I might add).

Shepard: Hey, Garrus, do you have time to talk, or are you busy calibrating?
Garrus: Oh, I've got time. No use trying to program commands until we get everything fixed up in port, anyway. That crash landing on the Collector ship really did a number on the weapons balance.
Shepard: I told Joker to take us to a planet with a good repair crew to fix her up. I have no idea what he picked, though.
Garrus: Knowing Joker, probably a place that also has good bars. By the way, I love you.
Shepard: D-What?
Hah, I can imagine that. I think I'd prefer that scenario over something super dramatic.
Lady Dino wrote...
Personally I see Garrus as the kind of person who doesn't ever really say "I love you". But there are times when you just know:
*Just before they leave for some battle*
Garrus: *Pulls Shepard into a hug and forehead touches*
Shepard: *Closes her eyes, then pulls away* Let's go.
Garrus: Right behind you
You can just feel the unspoken emotion between the two. Or at least that's how I see it
I could see that too. Some romances convey feelings through actions rather than words, and others convey them through words rather than actions. The best romances use both. HINT HINT, BIOWARE.

PS: I just have to say, in response to the ideas of Garrus 'saying it without saying it', I started thinking of Princess Bride, how when Westley was saying 'as you wish', he meant 'I love you'... Who thinks it would be awesomely sweet if Garrus' 'I'll be there when you need me' became that in ME3?
I never thought of that, but...I really like that idea. It is now part of my head-canon.
aznsoisauce...
Every time there is talk of ME3 and the Shep/Garrus relationship status I have anxiety over the thought of Garrus "dumping" her at the beginning of the game. Something like, "Oh, Kaidan's coming back. There might be unresolved feelings there." regardless of whether you romanced Kaidan in ME1 or not. Obviously it would just be a set up so that you can woo him all over again. Still...just once, my Shep would like to be the one that is pursued and not that one that does the pursuing.
Ugh. No. I hope that does NOT happen. My worst LI-related fear in ME3 (aside from death) is that your LI dumps you so you have to woo them all over again just because the writers don't want to tackle the challenge of writing interesting dialogue between two people in an established relationship.
Also, I've heard a lot of people say that Garrus is not in love with Shepard by the end of ME2 or even close to it. I must disagree. Jacob admits to Shepard that he loves her (if you turn him away at the final scene), and he's only known her for...what, a couple of months at the most? Damnit, if Shepard can get JACOB to love her in that amount of time then Garrus had better be pretty damn close to the "love" point by the end of his romance. The same goes for Tali. Shepard has been through a lot with those two and done so much for them. Garrus has probably had feelings for her for awhile and just didn't know it. Yes. That is what I am firmly believing unless BioWare proves me wrong. And if they do, I will fly to Canada and throw rocks at their office windows.

That's one of the most remarkable things about Garrus.
Garrus has been through thorian attacks, geth assaults, betrayals, his best friend (at the time) dying. His face getting burned and disfigured. Garrus is an extremely resilient personality. He can take all of this and deal with the fact the very fate of the galaxy is at stake, and take it all in stride. Hell, Garrus can even cope (barely) with you shattering his heart if you dump him.. And we all know at that point he just wants something to go right for him.
And somehow.. somehow garrus still manages to make some pretty hilarious lines. Mordins loyalty mission and samaras recruitment missions come to mind!
I don't see how anyone can dislike Garrus at this point. Even if you aren't in love with him like I am, you should at least respect and apprecite a turian that's been though so so soooooo much with you and can still crack a smile and offer support for you, even while shunning his own burdens.

Music:
I like the idea of some kind of Garrus compilation. Here are some that I
like. Some are from how she feels inside and some just seem to fit. I'm
big on lyrics so that influences some of the choices more than (or as
much as) the music.
The obvious (Intergalactic): www.youtube.com/watch
The Love Man: www.youtube.com/watch
Love and yearning post-Kaidan's words on Horizon (Bring Me to Life): www.youtube.com/watch
More love and yearning (I Do) (makes me think of his "heat sink" remark as well): www.youtube.com/watch
A song for the mood of the mission and the romance, of the unknown (Into the Mystic): www.youtube.com/watch
[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie] The picture of Garrus with the caption "He's a man and a half and made of poison" is perfect. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie]

I remember when I heard it I asked, but I was told it was a laboratory thing not natural. Nice to know the correct info though.
Still out of curiosity I would like to see hybrids. Highly unlikely in the real universe to find an alien species compatible with us, but eh. I'm sure in this huge galaxy there might be similar aliens. Of course I'm thinking in the Farscape/Star Trek mentality.
Well now I am super curious! After raid, it will be INTERNETZ 2 TEH RESKEW!

Ooh, thanks, I was just about to go looking for these
Mostly for the last little bit, I was distracted during the scene after the gunship fight and everyone always talks about how heartbreaking gurgling Garrus is, so I had to see it for myself. Oh man, that's tough to watch. I so wish Shepard had chimed in with a "like hell he isn't" after whichever character says "he's not going to make it" (and lol @ the annotations "That's right. Gtfo, Jacob"

I had NO idea that Jacob admitted to loving Shepard, but seeing how the romance went down between those two I am really surprised there was such a confession. The Jacob scene seemed so seedy and sexually-motivated, as opposed to Garrus's or Thane's interactions which were definitely emotionally driven. And just when I think I can't like Jacob's LI-scenario any less, they had to go and shoehorn in an inappropriate declaration of love. Gross.
Whatever people may complain about Kaidan, he's miles above that mess.
Disclaimer: I don't want to start any Jacob fires in here. I'm ambivalent about the character at best.

That would be fun! Some sort of expansion pack like DA:O Awakening with you playing Garrus and your small squad (Salarian explosives expert, Batarian tech expert, Sidonis, and someone else), about a 3-5 squad with the rest as NPCs. Going around.... assassinating and interrupting mercenary operations on Omega, then the final mission where you have to race back to the hideout when you've been betrayed with Eclipse/Blood Pack/Blue Suns getting in your way...
Man, that would be badass.

I'm most afraid of these situations in ME3:
1.(If you cheat) The first LI confronts you as well as the second, but you're not given a choice on who to pick. Either they both leave you or you're stuck with the one you like the least.
2. Garrus leaves you because it could never last because you're human and there might be too much prejudice with a Turian/Human romance.
I would see #2 as a cheap(and heartbreaking) cop out, but I don't see that happening.
