Allistair stole first place.  Carth slipped to 4th, tied with Kaiden.  3rd and 2nd are the bloody elf and the turian.  They switch around depending on my mood.

Carth was the first in a video game for me, so I just can't replace him as my top romance, though technically the course of Alistair's romance was much better.

****DA:O SPOILERS!!!!****

Zevran's had an adorable end. I stuck it out, hoping for the best, after ruining what my character had with Alistair *grumble*. Zev is probably 5th, with Thane being 4th.

I wish we could romance Oghren with a female Dwarf. I'd die of laughter ^_^.

People were comparing Al with Kaiden, I actually think he's got a lot more in common with Garrus. You can joke with Garrus and Alistair. If you told Kaiden he'd always been ugly, he'd have gotten pissed and stormed off.

I can't compare Thane or Jacob yet, I went with Garrus for the first time through.

DA:O spoilers~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I can forgive Al easier for what he did than Kaiden for some reason.  Al's was for duty, Kaiden's seemed more like a lack of trust.

Gosh you guys are hard to keep up with between sleep and school and work...who needs those anyway....

There are too many things I want to respond to to go back and dig up all the quotes, but I'm gonn a have to add my own :sick::sick: to the Jacob romance scene.  "the priiiiiiize"...wth?  Ugh, and the way he kind of grabs her ass on the way out of the room. It IS kind of insulting that that is the only scene with the big L-word in it.  But that's not to say I wish it had been in the others -- the truth is it didn't belong in any of them.  IMO, at least, none of the 3 relationships are developed enough to use that phrase sincerely (which then makes you wonder about Jacob just using it to manipulate Shepard like some ppl pointed out; I don't think he was though, I think Bioware just threw it in there for...who knows why).  If anything Garrus' relationship would be most ripe for the word "love," but as we've all sort of agreed by now, I don't think he would say it out loud at that point yet anyway.  Thane's was actually handled pretty well, there's one conversation between the two where one of them says something like "I know it's not love yet, we haven't known each other long enough, but there's definitely something between us."

I agree it's a shame that Jacob's romance is so crappy, for those that weren't interested in an alien LI. I don't mean to hate on Jacob but I have a hard time finding anything exciting about his character -- is there something, anything, that gives him a little depth if you romance him?  I still haven't been able to bring myself to actually go down that road (only for the fun of breaking up with him).  What's weird is, my first playthrough, I'm convinced it must have been bugged somehow, because I remember thinking "why does everyone keep complaining about what a **** Shepard is around him?" because I was never able to romance him even a little bit.  It was weird.  Maybe I accidentally did something early on.  Yet in other playthroughs I clearly saw what everyone else did, how in the beginning it literally doesn't give you a way to NOT flirt with him.  Ah well.

And as awful and shallow as the Jacob romance is, does the  fact that it's clearly just "on hold" if you reject him mean that Bioware is expecting/planning to make it a big part of ME3? That's fine for those that like him, but it better not be at the expense of the alien LI plots :(

I am really glad that I started spending time on this thread, because getting to read all your thoughtful analyses on Garrus' romance has made me feel so much better and appreciative of it than I did at first (initially felt very shortchanged.  Now I am glad to see how superior it is).  So thanks guys ^_^.

 FFFFFFFffff.

Guys, I can't do it.

I'm trying to get through a ME1 playthrough to romance Kaidan so I can cheat on him, but ugh. UGH.  I mean, there's the fact that he annoys me quite a bit (I don't hate him so much when I'm not romancing him.  Kinda like Jacob, only I like Jacob more)  but even worse? THE GAME.

Seriously, I never would've thought I I'd have this much trouble going back but it's kind of like pulling teeth.  The number of times I've hit A to go into cover, or X to reload...when i first started ME2 I hated the combat because I didn't understand it and it was harder, WAH (I'm not good at any game I play.  It doesn't stop me from loving them). I fully appreciate all of the gameplay improvements now.  Hm. Thoughtful Silt is thoughtful.

Anyway.

More importantly (as this is the Garrus thread), I can't romance Kaiden knowing there's a certain Turian hanging out by the Mako, waiting for some loving in the next game. This might sound weird, but it feels like I'm preemptively cheating on Garrus. I can't shake the feeling.

Psh, I should have gotten a satisfactory Kaidan playthrough when I had the chance. I think it's too late for me to ever go back. (I do have one save....but I let the council die in it, and I just refuse to live in a galaxy where the turian councilor no longer exists.  I love to hate that guy. So much.)

@siltsonata. Yeah, I made one last, almost bittersweet, run-through of ME1 the week before ME2 came out. In part as story refresher, but also because I figured it would be a looonnnng time before I could comfortably go back to ME1 and enjoy it. For me, it probably won't be until a couple of years after the entire trilogy is over, and the details of story and gameplay have grown somewhat fuzzy, and I can go back and play all three straight through from the beginning.

My video game boyfriends are ranked as follows:
1. Valen Shadowbreath, (Hordes of the Underdark). This tiefling will always be number 1 with me, no matter what. There is just something sweet and sexy and bad boy about Valen without him actually being a bad boy.

2. Robert Black, (The Aielund Saga). This is a player made game for NWN, using the aurora toolset, but Robert is total riot. And his romance is totaly unique in a way that I won't spoil here.

3. Bao Dur (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords). Not really a romance, but my exile would have jumped his bones if given the opportunity. And if I ever write that fanfiction she will!

4. Garrus. His romance is just so sweet I'm going to go play ME1 again and not romance anyone so I have a Shep that's free and clear to romance Garrus. Image IPB

5. Carth Onasi (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic). My first virtual boyfriend. Still have a soft spot for ol' Carth. Oddly enough Kaidan falls into this place as well.

Anyway, this is a Garrus thread so...

Yeah, you're probably right.  Maybe a couple of years down the line, when I can look at it as "Ahhh, nostalgia." rather than "JFC, please let's get this over with so I can get to the next game, goddamn."

Atton! Yessssssssss!

Atton's 2 for me, after Garrus, but I didn't want to mention it as people don't seem to talk about KOTOR2 much here...like it's taboo or something. <_<  He's pretty much the closest I can ever get to romancing Han Solo himself, so there's, ah....there's a lot of win there.

This.

He's not ranked higher on my scale, though, because the romance was entirely unfinished, unfortunately.  However, I'd have gone Dark Side just so he'd kill Disciple for me.

So, Garrus stays at 2 or 3.

For those of you who are awesome enough to paragon Garrus out of killing sidonis, and you were curious about the news reports about him? You get those if you spam emily wong's terminal. If you're like me and you saw the good in Sidonis and you were kind enough to let him go (which you should all do, damnit! :D) here's what she says

Emily Wong: C-Sec is reporting the arrest of one Lantar Sidonis after a dramatic confession
Emily Wong: According to eyewitness reports, Sidonis walked into a C-Sec kiosk and confessed to the murder of ten people on Omega
Emily Wong: C-Sec is reviewing the case, as Omega is beyond the scope of Council authority
Emily Wong: Executor Chellick maintains it is impossible to extradite Sidonis for his Crimes, as Omega has no government

I still feel bad for Sidonis, so sue me. I like the guy, okay!? He made a call to save his own life, and I still don't fault him for not wanting to die.. Crappy call, but Garrus can still see good in Sidonis for a reason, he is.

Sidonis would have to be released from C-Sec since there are no legal grounds to keep him there. I'm still curious what this will mean for him in ME3, though. He said he'd make it up to garrus somehow? Who knows, he could be our next Omega Batman Turian.

Edit: What is sidonis crime technically called? It's not Murder since he did none of the killing.

I let Garrus take the shot.  I understood the need for revenge there.  I may not let him take it again, though.

But then, my Shep's not a full Paragon.

My first playthrough, I allowed Garrus to take the shot, and told my friend of my choice. He literally was shocked that I took that route, instead of being a total paragon. Like you Sia, I understood his feelings and reasoning, so I let him do it (I started to paragon him in the car, but was like "Man, he really wants to do this, and he's like my best buddy, so..".

On my infiltrator though, I paragon'd him out of it, and I liked that result.. So now I talk him out of it. Someone mentioned earlier that "pity-laugh" Garrus does as you're talking to him about it before the encounter, I felt so bad for him ;x.

I'm assuming they mean the bitter, half-laugh that he gives when he says "The thought that Sidonis...could get away with this? Why should he go on living while ten men lay in unmarked graves?"

I love that line. One of the greatest Garrus moments in the game.

The entire conversation in the cab is my favorite Garrus/Shep scene in the whole game. It even beats out all of the romance scenes for me. It's so damn intense, and every line is just hit out of the ballpark by both VAs.

For me, it as another line that convinced me not to let him take the shot:
"I appreciate your concern... but I'm not you."
"This isn't you either."

It just... made me pause for a second. It made me realize I didn't want Garrus to just go out and kill the guy. It felt... wrong. To me, at least. So I went with the paragon route. I just couldn't let him take that shot. Damn you, Bioware, for making me care :P

I'll have to re-watch it closer this time! I liked it the first time I saw it, but I need to not be so impatient sometimes. (3rd playthrough with an infiltrator on hardcore, blah!). She's also supposed to be going after Garrus, but Thane is just so tempting, ha.

Edit: Rem: Ah, I forgot about that! That too was a good line.

I liked the one where he's arguing with you about taking Legion.  I really wanted to tell him, "No time to dicuss this with the committee!"
