Yeah, I did that myself, actually. Was pretty cool to see until I realized unlocking Tali early broke the game and I had to start over. >< lol

Ack! Okay, there's a reason for me to not mess with that stuff. xD

Wait wait wait, he says this in ME2?  I guess I always paragon'd him in ME1 but this is somehow the first I've heard that he tried to go back to Spectre training in some people's games, not C-Sec.  Meh....I don't like that dichotomy.  I play paragon and I don't like to let him kill in cold blood, but that doesn't mean I think he should be a C-Sec man.  To me the book's pretty much closed on whether or not he belongs there -- he would never be happy.  Being a Spectre shouldn't automatically translate from "renegade"...Shepard can be a paragon Spectre, after all.

In ME2 on my Paragon playthrough he mentioned he did BOTH, actually - went back to C-Sec, reapplied for Spectre status, but got fed up pretty fast. (My Paragon import from ME1 did encourage him to feel good about closing the case with Dr. Heart, but I didn't realize at the time how "YEAH! That's how IT SHOULD BE with the violence and the vengeance!" that dialog option would be. I was too lazy to reload, wanted to move on to getting Wrex's armor or something.)

Wow, that's awesome.  I wish they would have given you all of the dossiers in the beginning - especially with Legion, you don't have enough time with a lot of the squadmates.  Too bad you can't hack the 360 version to do this (plus add to the hairstyles!  Image IPB).

Edit; Oh, and speaking of this scene, did it bother anyone else how Shepard just casually strolls over to Garrus?  She doesn't even seem to acknowledge that he's hurt/possibly dead until he jolts awake.

I'm guessing this is another case of good old fashioned "had the files in the game, but changed at the last minute"...itis.

I wish they had diologue like this if you brought Garrus with you on the mission to recruit Tali. But noooo, he just stands there like a doofus all silent and stuff. No "hi Tali, long time no see," and no "Holy crap Garrus, what happened to your face?!"

Seriously! Both of those should be in Tali's mission. :(

I'm guessing they were still deciding the order of the dossiers, so they went ahead and recorded for all and then figured it out after.

Makes you wonder about more "hidden content." Like, stuff Garrus could say other than just "calibrations" perhaps... Mwa ha ha

I'd say you're just the right amount of obsessed!

Watching some of the Tali's trial vids people have on Youtube, and I remembered how I distinctly lost track of all the important stuff being discussed to focus on Garrus just sitting in the background hugging his knees, probably bored out of his skull. xD
I know all your squadmates sit exactly the same way regardless of who you bring, but I couldn't help thinking it was kind of adorable.
"You go and give your big passionate speech, Shepard, I'll just be back here thinking about cupcakes."

In my most recent playthrough Thane was standing to the left of Tali.  Might have been a glitch, but he definitely wasn't sitting all cute & adorable like Garrus.  Someone really needs to insert a bucket of popcorn next to him...

I love that I can rely on this thread to provide a good read.

I admit with shame that DA:O was the first Bioware game I had ever played. I loved it so much that once Steam was rolling with their crazy sales, I did not hesitate to purchase as many BW games as possible for (at the time) a college student with no job to speak of. I started to work my way through the games, playing Jade Empire and Mass Effect at the same time. As January came around, though, Mass Effect took priority and I was more than happy to do so considering how interested I was in the story and characters. I had the biggest girl-crush on Tali (OH GAWD YES TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM BABY); was endlessly amused by "Shepard." "Wrex."; and could not get enough of that Space Cowboy Cop Raptor's voice.

ANYWAY

I have yet to get to KOTOR so I have no opinions on Carth.

My general disdain for Kaidan's romance probably stems from being spoiled with DA:O. Everyone except for Morrigan managed to make my heart flutter (Morrigan's friendship turned out to have this effect and I love her for it). I decided to pursue Kaidan in ME1 for the achievement because I liked his voice and...he was kind of handsome. Little did I know just how much I would hate choosing him over Ashley. I felt a bond with Ashley and was actually bawling after Virmire, screaming "It's all my fault! I killed her!" into my pillow. So, by Ilos...to be honest, I was just looking for some comfort and threw my Shepard at Kaidan even though his lines lacked the effect of Alistair's, Leliana's, and Zevran's sweet nuthins. He nearly redeemed himself with his little speech about how "this, us, will never happen again" but it was ultimately overshadowed by his bizarre response regardless of whether you call him a sweet heart or insinuate your up for a quick round two.

Needless to say, I added Garrus and Tali to my list of if-I-could-I-would right before Sten and just after Oghren. Hm...I guess I like me some strange.

Then here came ME2 and Garrus surprising me with his overall awesomeness and actually making me swoon. I was initially going to try and not "cheat" on Kaidan mostly because I thought the picture on the desk was cute, but quite frankly Garrus is irresistible.

aw, really? The ones I've seen always have whoever you bring just sitting there, I guess I just assumed they all did it. xD

Maybe certain squad members think themselves too dignified to sit..but Garrus can admit when his dogs are barking and he needs a rest!

I think its funny when its Legion sitting back there hugging its knees and obviously NOT thinking about how to intentially infiltrate the creators' flotilla. :D

I've been hoping someone would have ripped the game of all its sound files by now...I'd like to change my windows sound scheme to just a bunch of Garrus battle cries.

And I want my cell phone to have Joker's voice telling me "Message coming in, Commander. Patching it through." When ever I get a text message or voice mail.

RE: Kaidan's bizarre response: Man, I hadn't done Kaidan's romance in so long that I'd forgotten about that clip.. Choked on my water because I happened to take a swallow right when he blurted out his line. xD;;

Yeah, it was less that moment that made me not like the romance as the entire feel of 'YOU'RE MY SUPERIOR! YOU'RE IN CHARGE!' that ran through it. I watched Ashley's video and she and Shepard have some cutesy 'You!' 'No you!' banter.. At that same point in time for FemShep, her LI is whining about how he doesn't want their relationship to cause any problems and blah blah blah. He spends so much time worrying that there isn't much relationship actually going on there. You have to coddle and push him the whole time, and my Shep just doesn't have the time or energy for that. /rant

Awesome idea! I'd just record them off of my sound card, but I'd pick up all of the shots and effects too. :( ... I guess I could turn down effects and music, but I'm not sure if that would work...

Wouldn't it be nice if for once Shepard was the one being pursued? Come to think of it...Thane almost pulls that off. Almost.

Like I said, I was spoiled by the romances of DA:O. Alistair and Leliana in particular seemed like they were actively trying to woo you. All you had to do was show a bit of kindness and suddenly they would get flirty. When I play as Shepard, I have this unshakable anxiety that her/his advances towards the crew were borderline sexual harassment. LOOKING AT YOU, FEMSHEP TALKING TO JACOB.

EDIT: Regarding game file sounds... you know, I recall shortly after ME2's release someone posting ripped speech files of the DLC crew member, Kasumi, that can be pulled from ME2's game files. And yet...I have yet to see anyone come out with a compilation of speech files for the other characters. This is mind boggling to me.

It would, but then you have the problem if LIs that are pushy and make assumptions.

I think that's one of my biggest irritations about Kaidan too, actually; he assumes a lot without much provocation (starts talking about 'reading your signals' when you have like one or two friendly chats with him). Which makes it even more confusing when he forces you to be the aggressor.

"Shepard, let's talk about this 'thing' we have."
"Uh, we have a 'thing'?"
"Of course! Anyway, I'm not sure how we should proceed with this..."
"With WHAT?"
"Our 'thing'!"
"... Okay. Fine, I think I get what you're saying. Do you want to go to my quarters or something?"
"Gee, I don't know about that. I'd like to take it slow, I don't want this to get complicated..."
"..."

DA:O certainly handled it best. It came off as a mutual growing relationship, every time you took another step, they took another step. It wasn't one person initiating it. I guess the ME LIs just didn't have enough romance-specific dialogues for that to work. :<

I'm hoping in ME3 that, assuming the ME2 LIs aren't cast aside, your particular LI will be openly flirty & affectionate with you - that would almost 100% make up for the impossibly bad Shepard come-ons in ME2.  (I loved the "How 'bout we skip right to the tiebreaker" convo as much as the next rabid Garrus fangirl, but it would have been nice if it wasn't used as the romantic icebreaker.)
DA:O indeed spoiled us.  I really wanted Garrus to say something during the Samara loyalty mission, when Samara basically offers you up as sexual bait for her daughter.  It would have been cute if he volunteered himself as the mark instead (and even for MaleShep playthroughs/FemSheps that didn't romance him, that line could even be tweaked to show how much of a pimp he is).

YES. It'll be very interesting to see how an already established relationship will be handled, I hope it means we're past the awkward phase and into the gooey caramel center of the relationships, so to speak. xD

It would be hilarious if Garrus volunteered for the Morinth thing, but I prefer to think that him not saying anything has to do with Garrus trusting Shepard so much that he's letting her make the call. It's the Garrus thing to do, regardless of the changes in their relationship.

Exactly, because everybody loves Pimp!Garrus. They just do.  He's awesome
The line could be given to anyone, really, with varying degrees of lulziness or D'AWW factor.  If your LI (or even a potential LI) is in the party, they express concern, if not they could offer themselves (or if you had a team of unliklies like Grunt and Legion someone could just point out how risky the plan is.)
Oh well.

Considering the devs even mentioned love interest consequences (if you cheated or whatever on your ME1 LI) in ME3, I think they understand the fanbase's love for the romance side story. So...I don't think it's too much of a stretch to hope for such a thing in ME3.

And regarding Samara's loyalty mission, I'm surprised they didn't take even more advantage of this mission. It had the potential to be one where you could pick a squad mate to play the bait or have Shepard do it him/herself. But man...I can totally hear Garrus going "I got this, Shepard." as he cracks his neck and knuckles before entering the VIP area. But...for the lulz, I would probably pick Grunt just so I could make him dance.

Having everyone chime in for Shepard's defense would be kind of nice.

And all they'd need for a response is something ambiguous that would respond to a variety of comments, both to concerns for Shepard's safety (or the soundness of the plan), and volunteers to do it instead. Such as Samara saying, "No, it has to be this way, it has to be now, and it has to be Shepard."
