Also the fact that Garrus *is* an alien is also a big part of what makes the romance so romantic, in my opinion anyway. It's likely not to be accepted by a lot of people on both sides, it's likely to have a whole set of difficulties to work out (not just the basic physical intimacy ones)... it's definitely not the "easy path" for either of them. For me that makes their feelings for each other that much more powerful. They're willing to try to surmount all these difficulties to be together. Now if that doesn't speak for a deep emotional bond, I don't know what does.

Exactly.

Garrus is an Alien who's willing to love shepard for who she is. How could you not see Garrus as the perfect love? He's not interested in looks, he wants shepard for the human shepard is. His feelings are based on emotion, not initial lust (Which makes his want of you sexually all the more powerful!). He's willing to work past the fact you're Alien to him just to be with you. He's willing to brave a potential allergic reaction that could kill him and you. He will follow you to hell and back, never leaving your side or supporting you. He doesn't even care that this will be a well known interspecies relationship!

I can't think of a more fitting lover than that..

It doesn't matter if you find him physically attractive like I do either. Garrus doesn't care what you look like, he loves you for who you are to him. If you can't get over the fact he's so Alien what kind of example are you? If he can overlook it to love you for who you are, not what you are, then you can too.

It's a little ridiculous making aliens act the same way as their specific species and make humans special like in most fantasy/sci-fi settings. Aliens in ME act exactly how I would see them. They have different personalities, desires etc. You can't make them perfect or follow a single rule.

I hate the idea of humans being always special, that they have that thing everyone wants because they are sooo special, that's just being ignorant and narrow-minded.

Sure it's cool seeing a certain race act all noble and nice and all, and when one of them defects and turns out to be a complete jerk the usual reaction would be "Oh noooos, how can he do such a thing? He was flawless, he was born to symbolize everything good."

We call it human nature, they might have another name for it but they're not related to us or be like us in any way.

Aliens can't have a single symbolizing characteristic. Sure the krogans are warriors and like to hit stuff, but that doesn't mena they can't shout poetry at an asari when they are madly in love. Or asari being all wise a powerful yet they panic when they screw it up and act retarded. or turians defecting from what they were taught. They are just being themselves and has nothing to do with humanity or lookalikes.

And in ME, I'm certain humans wouldn't want to be so special anymore since they are used for reaper reproduction purpose.

It does kinda suck to have such a malleable genetic code, doesn't it? We're the white mice of the Mass Effect Universe.

The first thing I started thinking about when I found out why humans were taken by collectors was "At least no one needs to race to get there first" XD
And for those unable to see the picture without an account on DA try this fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/048/2/b/Private_by_Nyhgault.jpg  I hope it works.

My hatred for the human race could be why I don't agree with Cerberus at all and why I totally understand where all the other aliens hate humans.
I'm not going to pretend the human race is a great thing that all other alien species should experience. Humans as a whole are xenophobic, and elitist. There are still lots of people that think there are no other life forms out there. We are visual creatures and if something is aesthetically pleasing we don't like it. Then again all animals fit into this group.
But there are more and more humans willing to be open to new experiences and new species regardless of appearance. Those are the ones that should represent us.

Although initially many people weren't attracted to Garrus physically, I'm pretty sure, like myself, there were a handful that were. Hell I think Wrex is a fine specimen.

As for the above picture: Beautiful. Really classy and nicely done.

Yep.  There are some that know it from the second they see Nihlus.  Just not me, back then. (I get it now though.  Besides, Nihlus is one damn good-looking Turian. Those eyes.)

As for Wrex, something must be happening to my standards of what is "plausible", because I have never ever ever ever EVER even remotely considered Wrex as a romantic option, but yesterday as I was continuing to struggle through my ME1 playthrough...for the first time I got a moment of "Huh.  You know, I could see it."  Of course, I'm too hung up on Garrus to even consider the human options, let alone a Krogan:P, plus the fact that Wrex is just like, my best best bro-man-friend EVER and it would feel weird.

I just thought it was interesting that at this point, I don't judge it like I used to.

Hmmm. The first time I saw Nihlus, I was actually kind of scared. I thought "OMG, what the hell is this evil looking thing?" Then a few minutes later I saw Saren, who looks a lot scarier by the way, and I had a bad feeling about Turians in general. They really inspired fear in me, all predator-like.

But then they kind of grew on me. Garrus helped a bit :)

Without Garrus, they could have easily become the "evil" race in the galaxy for the fans.  The turian Councilor DOES NOT HELP.

Interesting sketch, I like it.  I don't think their legs are that human-looking though.

I love the Turian Councilor. (OK, love to hate.  It's a complicated relationship we have)  I should get a T-shirt.

I agree, his eyes were fantastic. I loved Nihlus! Let us never forget that Nihlus was the first Turian you ever see that treats humanity with respect, too. He saw the potential in us. Hell, if it wasnt for Nihlus shepard might never have become a Spectre, and thusly the galaxy would have fallen to the reapers.

He was an awesome character for the short time he was alive in game :(

When I first saw Nihlus I was fascinated by how turians looked like, they all have that stick and walk around "Look at me, I'm better than you insignificant human."

They just have such a proud look and I like it :)

I agree. Also, the VA's name is Alastair Duncan, how can you go wrong with that name? He also voiced the Turian Councilor.

Hmmm, the colony markings seem similar to the Councilor's? And it's the same voice? Maybe that's why the guy's so pissed at us? We didn't prevent his son's death?

I've been wondering about the tattoo similarity. They both have ALMOST the same markings with a tiny difference, but it seems weird that a the two patterns could be so similar and still represent different colonies. Makes me wonder if there could be something else that affects tattoo design that would explain the difference if they were from the same colony.

Or maybe I just watched Beauty & the Beast too much as a child.  ../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png

I think you and I are in the same boat. I fell in love with the Beast as a very young girl, he was my ideal. Angry at the world, lacking social graces, but deep down a really wonderful person.

Wow, haha, thinking about it just explained a whole lot about my tastes in men. I'm marrying my Beast, but I've already introduced him to the world and he's not socially awkward anymore.

As for that picture, gorgeous work. Really intimate.

Edit: The Turian Councilor appears to share the same colony with Nihlus, but the only thing we know about Nihlus' family is that he has a mother.

Well put I'd say. Theres so many things that are stacked against him and Shepard and he's willing to work around it all. That is what makes the Garrus relationship more interesting and loving then the others.

Yeah, when I first saw Nihlus I didn't find him "attractive" but I did think to myself "that is a wickedly cool -- if teensie-bit frighening -- looking alien. When his mandibles puffed out in sort of a silent "oh ****" at the sight of the reaper claw on the video of Eden Prime, I decided turians were awesome.  Although, they still seemed a bit evil to me for a while, since the next two turians you encounter (except for about 10 seconds with Garrus, too short to tell) are Saren and the dickwad Councilor  (all of whom had sexy voices though. oh those voices!):o

We would have heard he was if that was the case. This is just a matter of Turians coming from the same world/colony. =]
